New York, Manhattan Borough, Madison Avenue.
A young Chinese person in a suit stepped out of a yellow taxi.
Fu Qinghai closed the car door, carrying a briefcase, and stood by the busy roadside of Madison Avenue, looking up to examine the building before him.
The iron gray glass curtain wall shimmered under the scorching sunlight. Its towering peak stood out among the many tall buildings in Manhattan. The entire structure was an irregular cone, with a huge disc-shaped landing pad extending outward from the top. On the side of the landing pad disc, there was a large, conspicuous light box shaped like the letter "A" in light blue.
Stark Tower, the Avengers' New York office.
This building, which would have been rendered by CG in the movies, now stood clearly before Fu Qinghai—so real, so awe-inspiring.
Fu Qinghai withdrew his gaze, took a deep breath, and stepped into the building.
"Good day, sir. Do you have an appointment?" asked the blonde office lady at the circular reception desk in the first-floor hall, wearing a professional smile.
"Hello, I'm here for an interview for an intern position in your Holographic Projection department." Fu Qinghai calmly handed over a business card—the card of an HR representative from Stark Industries who had invited him for the interview.
"Very well, security will escort you," the beautiful receptionist confirmed before speaking briefly into her headset.
A Black security guard escorted Fu Qinghai through multiple checkpoints to a small office on the second floor.
"Even the security check for the Human Resources department is this complicated..." Fu Qinghai clicked his tongue inwardly, gaining a new perspective on the security measures at the Avengers' New York office.
In the small room, a middle-aged white woman behind the desk casually flipped through a few pages of documents.
"Please have a seat. I've reviewed your resume. Please give us a brief self-introduction, Mr. Fu."
"Hello Ms. Avery, I am Albert Fu. I graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, and during my graduate studies, I worked under the renowned Professor..."
"During my doctoral studies, I was deeply involved in the laser application research and development project at Hammer Industries..."
Fu Qinghai, seated on the sofa, sat up straight and spoke fluently.
A full Stanford doctorate, applying for a mere intern position?
This was Stark Industries.
As for...
His Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees from Stanford University? Fabricated.
Major scientific research projects he was deeply involved in? Made up.
The Human Resources Director nodded along, affirming Fu Qinghai's introduction, while simultaneously questioning him about specific research projects listed on the resume.
Fu Qinghai answered confidently, confusing the interviewer with a string of fabricated, lengthy, technical English jargon.
Things like "The Uncertainty Principle in Complex Zeeman Effects" or "Explaining the Citric Acid Cycle using Superposition Principle and Stationary State Wave Functions."
The interview did not require Fu Qinghai to present his university research papers beforehand, so they weren't attached to his resume. However, if the interviewer had requested to access them, he had already fabricated those as well, kept inside the briefcase he was holding.
Fu Qinghai's experience as a worker before entering the Reincarnation World had given him a thorough understanding of the HR field. A professional Human Resources Director does not necessarily mean they are a professional technical Engineer; their knowledge in specific sub-specialties is often shallow.
Hmph, as long as my aura is confident enough, I can fool them, Fu Qinghai thought. The overly smooth interview process made him slightly overconfident.
"Finally," Fu Qinghai concluded. Although his entire presentation avoided nonsense about personality, hobbies, or special skills, focusing entirely on fabricated substance, he felt obligated to include some corporate culture fluff for the closing. "I deeply admire and look up to Mr. Tony Stark. That is why I chose Stark Industries right after graduation."
"Almost every applicant is a fan of Mr. Stark," the middle-aged white woman chuckled dismissively.
"You are excellent, Mr. Fu, and very... young. Congratulations, you passed the interview. If convenient, you can report this afternoon. Here is your office address..." The interviewer tapped a few times on an electronic tablet and handed Fu Qinghai a piece of paper that seemed to list onboarding instructions.
Fu Qinghai took the paper, thanked her politely, and then turned around to leave.
Walking out of Stark Tower, Fu Qinghai was immensely satisfied. Everything went smoothly. An exceptionally young Stanford Doctor? If Fu Qinghai had an African or Latino appearance, it might seem slightly odd, but he was a Chinese person.
A Chinese person, young, and a top student—isn't that perfectly normal?
However, the elated Fu Qinghai failed to notice that the office address written on the paper the interviewer gave him was apparently not "Stark Tower, 218 Madison Avenue."
