Inside Yun Xi’s mustard-seed space was a spring that flowed endlessly, pooling into a small lake. The spring water was sweet and could cure all manner of ailments. Yun Xi drank half a cup of it and immediately felt her body grow lighter and her mind clearer.

Back in the modern world, Yun Xi had never touched the things in the bamboo pavilion, after all, it was a law-abiding society, reasonably safe. She’d practiced taekwondo since childhood to stay fit, and had bodyguards whenever she went out, which was protection enough. There’d been no need to learn any other martial skills.

But now that she’d arrived in this era, Yun Xi genuinely felt she needed some martial skill to better protect herself. So she went into the bamboo pavilion and carefully looked over what was there, discovering that besides the ready-made elixirs, there were also some medical texts, alchemy manuals, and a number of cultivation books.Full novel: The Laid-Back Young Lady’s Leisurely Life After Traveling to Ancient Times — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Not knowing what kind of physical foundation this body had, Yun Xi decided to first take a Marrow-Cleansing Pill to improve her constitution.

She’d read some cultivation novels and knew that taking a Marrow-Cleansing Pill could bring excruciating pain as the body expelled impurities. So she found a large bathtub, filled it with spiritual spring water, undressed, and sat inside before taking the pill.

Sure enough, a wave of searing pain hit her, giving her a thorough, firsthand taste of feeling worse than dead. By the time the pain finally passed, Yun Xi felt as though she’d been reborn.

Her body, sure enough, was now covered in a layer of dark, greasy filth. It took her three washes to finally get clean.

She could also clearly feel that her skin had become noticeably smoother and finer. There was a mirror she’d previously stored in the space, she looked herself over carefully, sure enough, her skin was now smooth as cream, her cat-like eyes bright and full of life, alluring and charming, and when she smiled, there was even something faintly seductive about it.

Yun Xi was extremely pleased with her own looks.

Before leaving the space, she rifled through the storage first, picking out a few unremarkable wooden toys suitable for a three-year-old child, and put them in her dowry chest for later use.

Back when her own sister-in-law had been pregnant, she, as the soon-to-be aunt, had done a lot of preparation too, stocking up a large batch of baby and toddler supplies, formula, diapers, toys, clothes, everything imaginable. She’d never been short on money, so she’d bought whatever caught her eye.

She’d never had a chance to use any of it before, but now it would finally come in handy.

Time flowed differently inside the space than in the outside world, though she’d spent quite a while inside, only a short moment had passed outside.

Yun Xi set down the toys she’d taken out, and while she was at it, checked over her own dowry. Even though the original Yun Xi’s father had given everything he had, the dowry was still rather modest.

She left everything else where it was, to be taken out later when needed. After all, retrieving things from the space required nothing more than a thought, she didn’t need to physically enter it herself.

Just as she finished tidying up these minor matters, the old lady’s senior maid came to invite her to the main hall for a chat. Yun Xi figured the old lady probably wanted to fill her in on some household matters, and might even have her meet her nominal son. Since they’d be spending a lot of time together going forward, the sooner they met, the better.

Sure enough, the moment Yun Xi stepped into the main hall, she immediately spotted a little bundle of adorable, jade-white cuteness sitting beside the old lady, looking soft and sweet.

Who could resist a big-eyed, curious little cutie sitting there so quietly? Yun Xi certainly had no defense against that at all.

A genuine, heartfelt smile spread across her face.

In the world she’d come from, kids were the kind of thing parents doted endlessly on, there were tons of adorable-toddler videos online, just as popular as cute cat videos. One look and you’d fall silent with delight.
