Dr.
Lee’s hands worked their usual swift magic, uncorking the glass ampoule of thick, viscous liquid with practiced ease.
“Ordinary suppressants will only finish poisoning him,” the doctor said, drawing some of the clear fluid into the thick syringe.
“This is an experimental neuro-stabilizing serum, designed specifically for cases of extreme individual potential.
It will not eliminate his…
condition, since nothing is capable of reliably terminating a provoked awakening, but it should be enough to reduce his temperature before his internal organs give out.” Tae-hyuk sat on the bed’s edge, his broad arm pillowing Seo-jun’s head and upper body.
Dr.
Lee dabbed the inside of Seo-jun’s left upper arm with alcohol, and as he brought the syringe close to the prepared spot, Tae-hyuk’s left hand clamped heavily over the doctor’s wrist. The air in the room seemed to press down on Tae-hyuk’s chest, becoming unbearably thick.
His gold eyes narrowed at the sight of the syringe.
The pressure of his hand on Tae-hyuk’s wrist sent fresh waves of irritation rolling through his veins, making his muscles twitch with restrained fury.
“Careful,” he growled.
His voice had dropped to a deep, guttural growl, betraying his possessive instincts.Dr.
Lee, feeling the pressure of Tae-hyuk’s palm on his own wrist, stiffened.
The grip wasn’t painful, but it was firm enough to convey the displeasure without actually harming him.
He swallowed once, fighting down the unease that had crawled up his spine at the sudden show of alpha instincts.
“I’m trying to help him,” he reminded Tae-hyuk, his voice unusually calm.
“You should let me do that.” Tae-hyuk’s eyes darkened as he regarded the doctor’s face.
He gave a slow, almost reluctant nod, his fingers loosening around Tae-hyuk’s wrist.
“…..Get it over with.” Dr.
Lee inserted the thin needle into Seo-jun’s vein and gave a swift push on the plunger.
The moment the stabilizing fluid entered his bloodstream, Seo-jun flinched, hissing in pain.
His fingers dug roughly into Tae-hyuk’s shirt, his body writhing almost desperately against the older man’s hold.
“It’s okay,” Tae-hyuk murmured into his ear, hugging him tightly to his chest, cradling his head against his shoulder.
“I’m right here.” After a few tense minutes, the steady beeping of the vitals monitor slowed to a more tranquil pace, and the temperature readings had returned to normal.Dr.
Lee cleaned up his equipment, knowing that the longer he stayed, the more agitated Tae-hyuk would become.
He gave a final glance at Seo-jun’s still form before fastening his bag shut.
“He’s stable for now,” he said briefly.
“But with the 99.8 compatibility rate, you’re his only anchor.
I wouldn’t suggest leaving him alone for too long.” “I’m not going anywhere,” said Tae-hyuk quietly.
As soon as the double doors shut after the departing doctor, Tae-hyuk pulled Seo-jun onto his lap.
His free hand unclenched, sending twin jets of freezing air curling around Seo-jun’s overheated body.
He was saturating the air with his scent, dark, brooding cedarwood notes clinging to Seo-jun’s damp hair and skin.Seo-jun’s fingers twitched feebly against Tae-hyuk’s lapels.
His lashes fluttered open for a brief second, his clouded gaze locking onto Tae-hyuk’s face.
“…..Kang….
Tae-hyuk?” he rasped, his voice barely more than a hoarse whisper.
Tae-hyuk’s thumb brushed lightly against the rapidly beating pulse at the base of Seo-jun’s throat.
His golden eyes softened as he watched the younger man’s gaze fall to his chest.
“Yes,” he said, leaning closer.
“I’m Kang Tae-hyuk.” Seo-jun gave a small, involuntary moan, his body relaxing as he buried his face in the crook of Tae-hyuk’s shoulder.
He was calmer now, his breathing even as he fell back into a deep sleep.Tae-hyuk tilted his head back, his lips hovering just above Seo-jun’s warm forehead.
He hovered there for a moment, his arms curling around the smaller man’s back like steel bands.
“Sleep, Seo-jun,” he murmured.
“No one will hurt you while I’m here.”
