Xu Muyan looked utterly miserable—the examination really had shown nothing wrong.
But who could have known that this little princess would wake up and call Lu Siye "uncle"?
"Fourth Brother, I'll arrange it right away."
Lu Siye turned and entered the ward.
The girl on the bed wore a thin hospital gown, which, against her fair skin, made her look even more fragile.
"Ning Yan, come here." Lu Siye unconsciously softened his tone.
"Uncle, what's wrong?" Ning Yan shifted her body and slowly moved closer to Lu Siye, her soft, sticky voice tinged with a hint of fear.
"Don't call me uncle."
Ning Yan's little mouth puckered, and her eyes instantly welled up with tears. "Uncle, you're so mean. Yanyan doesn't like you."
Hearing those words, Lu Siye's brows furrowed even deeper.
Doesn't like him.
Those were the words he hated hearing most from Ning Yan.
The girl's tears fell even harder.
Lu Siye felt a twinge of regret—he shouldn't have spoken so harshly to Ning Yan.
"Alright, stop crying."
"How about I take you for an examination in a little while, okay?" Lu Siye coaxed Ning Yan in a gentle tone, soothing her like one would a small child.
Ning Yan shook her head, her eyes full of panic, and spoke in her soft, sticky voice, "No."
He's so fierce—could he be a bad guy?
"I'm not a bad guy. I'm your husband." Lu Siye patiently explained to Ning Yan.
Not saying it was fine, but the moment he did, Ning Yan became even angrier.
"You liar, a big fat liar! I'm only six years old—where would I get a husband?" Ning Yan glared at Lu Siye and demanded angrily.
"How old are you?" Lu Siye couldn't believe his ears.
"Six." Ning Yan repeated with complete confidence.
The veins at Lu Siye's temples pulsed.
"Ning Yan, did you hit your head and go silly?" Lu Siye grabbed Ning Yan's arm and pressed his hand to her forehead.
No fever—so why was she talking nonsense?
"You're the one who's silly." Ning Yan's little face sank as she glared furiously at Lu Siye. The way she looked was simply adorable.
Lu Siye knew that now wasn't the time to reason with Ning Yan, but rather to coax her into getting a full-body examination.
"Be good, Yanyan. Once we do a full-body examination, I'll take you home, alright?" Lu Siye's deep, husky voice soothed Ning Yan, his tone impossibly gentle.
Hearing the word "home," Ning Yan naturally became very happy and agreed without a second thought.
"Okay." Ning Yan nodded happily.
"My feet hurt. Carry me." Ning Yan sat on the bed, spread her arms wide, and pouted coquettishly at Lu Siye, asking for a hug.
The girl blinked her big, round eyes, tears still clinging to her long, thick lashes.
Ning Yan's coquettish display instantly melted Lu Siye's heart into a complete mess.
Lu Siye stood up, bent down, and scooped the girl on the bed into a princess carry.
This was the first time Lu Siye had held Ning Yan since she'd grown up. She was very light—though she stood at 165 centimeters, in Lu Siye's arms, she was still a tiny bundle.
Ning Yan raised her slender, fair fingers and poked Lu Siye's handsome face, looking utterly smitten. "Uncle, you're so handsome."
Lu Siye's heart skipped a beat in that instant.
This was the first time Ning Yan had touched him and the first time she'd complimented him. Lu Siye forgot to breathe—though only for a moment. He cleared his throat lightly to mask his awkwardness.
"Call me husband." His warm breath spread across Ning Yan's ear, making it turn red in an instant.
Her voice trembling slightly, she spoke in a sweet, clear tone, "Are you really my husband?"
But she was only six years old—how could she have a husband?
"You silly girl, look at your body and hands—do they look like they belong to a six-year-old?" Lu Siye let out a light sigh, asking Ning Yan with a somewhat helpless tone.
He had thought Ning Yan would believe his words, but who would have known she suddenly burst into tears.
Could a six-year-old Ning Yan really cry this much?
"Wahhh… Am I turning into a monster?" Ning Yan buried her head in Lu Siye's chest and sobbed.
"Yanyan isn't turning into a monster. Yanyan is just not feeling well." Lu Siye's arms around Ning Yan's waist tightened slightly.
He couldn't stand seeing her cry—whenever she cried, it was as if the whole world had wronged her.
"Really?" Ning Yan asked Lu Siye between sniffles.
Lu Siye nodded and replied with a firm single word, "Yes."
After coaxing Ning Yan, he took her through a series of examinations.
All the examinations were done with Lu Siye holding Ning Yan in his arms.
It took Lu Siye a long time of coaxing before Ning Yan agreed to go into the CT scanner.
Looking at the person inside, Lu Siye's brows furrowed even deeper.
What was wrong with Ning Yan? How had she become so obedient and prone to crying after waking up? Could this be one of her little tricks again?
After all, this wasn't the first time.
Ning Yan was the daughter-in-law chosen by the Lu family. Lu Siye's grandfather had said that if the Ning family gave birth to a daughter, she must become the Lu family's granddaughter-in-law, so that their two families could become even closer.
After the Ning family had three sons, Lu Siye's grandfather lamented—was it fate that they were destined never to become in-laws?
A year later, Lin Wan became pregnant again, and this time she gave birth to a daughter as hoped.
Lu Siye's grandfather immediately arranged a child engagement between the two, but at that time, Lu Siye was already nine years old.
"I don't want this ugly duckling." Lu Siye's young brows furrowed tightly, his handsome little face full of disdain.
But as time passed, Ning Yan grew more and more beautiful, and Lu Siye abandoned his earlier thoughts. Having such a soft and adorable little wife wasn't so bad after all.
And so, Lu Siye kept waiting for Ning Yan to grow up, waiting for her to grow up so he could marry her.
But the grown-up Ning Yan actually refused to marry him.
She said whoever agreed to it should go marry him—she wasn't going, no matter what.
The Ning family had only this one daughter, so naturally she was treasured dearly. Thus, Father Ning was asked to decline the marriage arrangement. After all, times had changed—who still insisted on following the dictates of parents and the words of matchmakers?
When Lu Siye learned that Ning Yan didn't want to marry him, his face darkened beyond words, and an icy cold aura radiated from his entire being.
Ning Yan, you can only marry me.
Lu Siye directly had Lu Huaiqing help him stage a performance.
The story was that Elder Lu's health was failing, and he wanted to see Lu Siye get married, so that he could pass away without any lingering regrets. After all, Lu Siye's parents had died early, and Elder Lu had raised him with his own hands—wanting to see Lu Siye married was only natural.
And so, Ning Yan was coaxed and tricked by Elder Lu into marrying Lu Siye.
But after marrying Lu Siye, Ning Yan began opposing him every single day.
For example: destroying contracts worth hundreds of millions for Lu Siye.
Or deliberately turning off the main power switch at home while he was in a meeting.
But Lu Siye never blamed her in the slightest—instead, he only told her not to hurt herself.
As for the scene at the beginning, it was Ning Yan running off to a bar to drink and getting caught red-handed by Lu Siye.
As they were about to head home…
She missed a step on the stairs and fell, and when she woke up… she had become like this.
Lu Siye snapped back to attention as the door to the CT room swung open. He strode inside with his long, straight legs.
He carried Ning Yan back to the ward in a princess hold.
Thanks to Xu Muyan, all the examination results came through.
Xu Muyan took the results and went to find Lu Siye.
