Yun Shu stared intently at the tear mole at the corner of his eye, thinking that it looked rather alluring on his face.
Seeing the girl staring at him so fixedly, Shi Muchuan kept a straight face and calmly finished the examination.
“Did you take your medicine today?” he asked as he put away his stethoscope and stood upright.
Yun Shu buttoned up her gown and replied, “No.”
Shi Muchuan glanced at her. Just now, he had noticed that her heartbeat was much stronger, and the sounds were no longer as disordered.
“Doctor Shi, can I be discharged? I feel much better now.”
“Stay for two more days. We’ll run another check then. If everything looks fine, you can go home to recover.”
“Thank you, Doctor Shi.”
“You’re welcome. But what you did this morning was very brave. Still, in the future, make sure you act only when it’s safe,” he added. He had already heard about the incident from his assistant.
“Okay,” Yun Shu replied with a sweet smile.
Under his mask, the corners of Shi Muchuan’s lips unconsciously curved slightly in response to her smile.
What an optimistic girl. That’s good—having a positive mindset helps control the condition.
“Get some proper rest, and remember to take your medicine later.”
“Okay, Doctor Shi.”
Seeing how obedient she looked—like a little sister next door—Shi Muchuan had the urge to ruffle her hair, but felt it wouldn’t be appropriate, so he held himself back.
He pulled open the curtain, and the other doctors waiting outside came forward.
“How is she today?” one of them asked.
“She’s doing well. No major issues. As long as she takes her medication and passes the check-up in a couple of days, she can be discharged.”
“What about the treatment plan we discussed this morning…?”
“Not necessary for now.”
Yun Shu listened to their conversation. Were they discussing how to treat her heart condition?
Shi Muchuan then led the other doctors to continue their rounds.
Yun Shu hugged the system and said, “System, my heart feels a lot better now. It’s not as uncomfortable anymore.”
“Keep it up, Master! This is just the beginning. The more you drink, the faster you’ll heal. Soon, you’ll be able to live like a normal person!”
“Okay.” Yun Shu felt full of confidence.
In Room 108 on the fifth floor of the psychiatric department, a frail, pale woman with messy hair lay on the hospital bed.
Yun Shu walked into the room and saw that the woman’s hands and feet were restrained to the bed. Whenever she moved, the chains clinked against the metal frame.
She was the woman Yun Shu had saved from the rooftop that morning.
Her eyes stared blankly at the ceiling as Yun Shu walked up and stood beside her bed.
“Sister, what are you looking at?”
The woman turned her head at the sound and looked at her. Yun Shu gave her a gentle smile.
“Sister, are you okay? I came to see you.”
The woman didn’t respond, only stared at her. After a long while, she finally spoke in a hoarse voice,
“Who are you?”
Yun Shu was surprised. Did she not remember what happened that morning?
“Sister, my name is Yun Shu. I heard you were sick, so I came to visit you.”
The woman no longer looked like she had earlier—she seemed relatively calm now.
She gave Yun Shu a pale smile. “Thank you for coming to see me. But how do you know me?”
“Uh… I have a heart condition too. I’m hospitalized here as well. I happened to see you once before,” Yun Shu improvised.
When the woman heard that she had a heart condition, her eyes became slightly moist.
“You have a heart condition too?”
“Yes, sister.”
Yun Shu looked at the chains binding her hands and feet, and a sense of sadness rose in her heart.
Before coming, she had asked at the nurse’s station about the woman’s condition.
The woman had been hospitalized here intermittently for over a year. Sometimes she was lucid, sometimes not.
This morning, when she went to the rooftop to jump, it was because her stepmother had visited her at the hospital. Somehow, she became agitated afterward and ran to the rooftop.
Her family only visited occasionally, and they never stayed long. They had arranged for a caregiver to look after her.
When she had an episode, doctors would either inject her with a sedative or restrain her like this to prevent her from running off while not in her right mind.
No one knew how her restraints had been removed this morning.
When asked, her stepmother claimed she didn’t know—when she left, the restraints were still securely fastened.
As for why she had become like this, it seemed that her younger sister had died of a heart condition, and the shock had caused her mental breakdown.
But after hearing all this, it felt like things weren’t so simple.
It didn’t seem likely that she would become mentally unstable just because of her sister’s death alone.
What Yun Shu had made up earlier while saving her seemed to have had an effect, so she came to check on her.
If she could help her, even just a little—if her condition could improve or ease—it would be a good thing.
“My sister is dead, you know? When she died, her eyes were still open. It was that black-hearted woman who caused it—and my so-called father too!”
As the woman spoke, she began to grow agitated again. Yun Shu quickly stepped forward to comfort her.
“Sister, calm down. Don’t get worked up.”
“If you want revenge, don’t you need to get better first? If you stay like this and one day lose control and die, who will avenge your sister?”
“Heh… that’s right, I still have to take revenge. But in my current state, I can’t control myself. Will I ever get better?”
“You will, sister. Believe me—you’ll definitely get better. But you need to actively cooperate with treatment. Also, I think you should change environments. You can’t keep staying here.”
“Change environments? But they won’t agree. They just want to keep me tied up here, torment me, make me collapse, make me lose my mind bit by bit.”
“Then do you have any other relatives?”
“No. My mother died when I was fifteen, and my grandparents are abroad.”
“Have you contacted your grandparents?”
The woman shook her head. “No.”
“Do they know about your situation?”
“They know, but I’ve never contacted them. Back then, because my mother insisted on marrying my father, she cut ties with them.”
“Do you have any way to contact them? Maybe I can help try. If they’re willing to accept you, they might be able to transfer you abroad for treatment. That would be much better for you.”
The woman thought seriously for a moment. “My mother had a friend. He might be able to help me get in touch with them.”
