“All right, but what if someone hears you talking like this?”

“Master, only you can understand what I’m saying. To anyone else, it just sounds like meowing.”

That was a relief—if anyone heard a cat speaking human words, they might have thought of dissecting it for research.Full novel: The Possessive Beauty: A Fake Heiress Pampered by Dr. Shi — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

With the system’s company, Yun Shu finally didn’t feel so lonely.

She wasn’t sure if it was due to the water and food in this new place or something else, but her stomach had been feeling uncomfortable all day.

She didn’t pay much attention, thinking it would get better on its own.

By evening, the pain intensified. The burning sensation in her stomach kept her from sleeping. She curled up in bed, tossing and turning.

Cold sweat soaked her clothes, and the system anxiously paced around her.

“Master, are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” Yun Shu weakly replied.

“Master, you should go to the hospital. You won’t be able to endure this pain.”

Her delicate face was pale as she struggled to sit up, dragging her weak legs to the wardrobe to grab a jacket.

The system followed closely behind. As a tiny cat, it could do little to help.

It really wanted to regain energy so it could at least become a small mecha to help her—it was far better than being a fist-sized cat.

Yun Shu wheezed her way to the entrance, put on her shoes, and tucked her phone and keys into her pocket before opening the door.

The system quickly jumped onto her shoulder. “Master, you have to hang in there.”

Cold sweat already drenched her hair. She raised her pale face and smiled weakly at the system.

It was already past midnight, and the elevator was empty, so it moved quickly.

Inside, she pressed her hand against her stomach, leaning on the elevator wall.

She felt her body deteriorating, as if she had returned to her childhood before the protective jade pendant nurtured her health.

Arriving at the street, there were very few cars. She waited squatting for twenty minutes before finally hailing a taxi.

The driver was shocked at her pale appearance. “Where to?”

“The hospital,” Yun Shu managed to say, then slumped back into the seat, her gaze unfocused.

The system meowed frantically, jumping on her face, but Yun Shu didn’t respond.

“Hey, hey, hey, wake up…”

Seeing this, the driver hurriedly started the car. It was the middle of the night—terrifying—but she couldn’t die in his car.

While driving, he called the hospital, explaining that a passenger had fainted upon getting into his taxi and might need urgent care. He asked that a doctor be ready at the entrance.

In the cardiology chief’s office, a nurse walked in. The chief was focused on reviewing a patient’s chart.

“Chief Shi, it’s late—do you want a snack?”

“No, thank you.”

“Okay, okay,” the nurse said, blushing, walking out while looking back multiple times. At the door, she met a colleague and asked,

“Nurse Zhang, why didn’t you go eat? Tonight they made fried chicken wings in the cafeteria, pretty good.”

“What for? Someone just called saying a person had fainted and might need resuscitation. I need to be at the entrance.”

“Oh… okay, there’s nothing we can do then.”

Hearing this, the man in the office stood up and quickly walked out.

At the nurse station, a few nurses were chatting.

“Huh? Why is Chief Shi in such a hurry?”

“Not sure, maybe something happened.”

“What kind of woman do you think Chief Shi likes? Even the hospital director’s daughter tried pursuing him, and he didn’t like her. Do you think I still have a chance?”

“I’ll tell you a secret—heard that Chief Shi had a girlfriend in college. She dumped him, and since then, he’s closed off his heart and hasn’t dated anyone else.”

“Really? Chief Shi is so handsome and good—how could she just dump him?”

“That’s just hearsay. No one knows if it’s true.”

“Well, I don’t know either. Just heard that it happened—can’t be baseless.”

At the hospital entrance, a few doctors and nurses were ready with a stretcher. Seeing Shi Muchuan arrive, they asked,

“Chief Shi, what brings you here?”

“I was worried there wouldn’t be enough hands, so I came to help.”

“Okay. Just now, a patient with a fracture was brought in. Director Zhang went to surgery. I thought I’d check the patient first and call you—you’re here already. Sounds like you were in a hurry on the phone.”

Soon, a taxi appeared. The driver rolled down the window and shouted as soon as the car stopped:

“Hurry, hurry! Doctor, the patient is in the back seat!”

Shi Muchuan rushed forward and opened the rear door, seeing a girl collapsed with a pale face. A little cat was scrambling over her.

When he opened the door, the cat meowed loudly, as if screaming for its master.

Seeing her face, he immediately knew the situation was serious.

The girl was very thin. Shi Muchuan quickly lifted her onto the stretcher beside the car.

Doctors fitted her with an oxygen mask and rushed the stretcher toward the emergency room.

Every second counted—any delay increased the danger.

Seeing her being rushed away, the system leapt down, chasing after them. Its tiny legs couldn’t keep up.

Anxious, it meowed frantically until a nurse scooped it up, holding it in her hands.

“Such a small, cute cat! Don’t worry, your master is in the ER. She’ll be fine. You’re so loyal.”

“You stay with me for now. When your master wakes up, I’ll return you to her.”

Yun Shu was brought into the ER, the heart monitor beeping continuously.

Soon, the monitor, which had slight fluctuations, flattened into a straight line. The machine sounded an alarm, and the room’s atmosphere became tense.

Shi Muchuan crossed his hands and began chest compressions with all his strength. Each press made a faint cracking sound from her bones, along with his own rapid breathing.

Sweat dripped onto the blue sheets and into his eyes—he didn’t have time to wipe it.

The girl’s face remained pale, her lips slightly purple, her chest motionless.

“Adrenaline!”

“Defibrillator, quick…”

Bang—

Beep…beep…beep…

After a long moment…

“Thank goodness, the heartbeat is back!” a nurse exclaimed.

The monitor returned to a regular rhythm instead of a flat line.

Everyone in the ER breathed a sigh of relief—they had snatched a life back from the hands of death.

An hour later, Yun Shu was brought out, still wearing an oxygen mask.

“Does the patient have family?” a doctor asked.

A nurse replied, “No. The taxi driver who brought her left already.”

“Then let’s temporarily assign her a bed. We’ll deal with the rest when she wakes,” Shi Muchuan said as he followed behind.

“Okay, Chief Shi.”
