“Cough, cough!”
Huo Shiyue coughed softly a few times, his face slightly pale.
Huo An hurried back from the window. His face filled with concern as he quickly walked to the bedside.
“Master, how are you feeling? Is there anywhere that hurts?”
Huo Shiyue gently shook his head.
“I’m fine. I just woke up, so I’m still a little weak.”
Hearing this, Huo An was so happy he nearly burst into tears.
“Master, it’s wonderful that you’ve finally woken up! You’ve been unconscious all this time, and the doctors could do nothing. The Old Madam has been worried sick.” As he spoke, he discreetly wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes with his sleeve.
Huo An had been brought back to the Huo family by Huo Shiyue when he was six years old. The two had essentially grown up together, and Huo An had long since come to regard Huo Shiyue as the most important family member in his life.
“Right, I need to go tell the Old Madam that you’re awake. She’ll be overjoyed.” Huo An was practically beside himself with happiness.
“Wait. Listen to me first…” Huo Shiyue briefly explained his plan. By the time he finished, he looked somewhat exhausted.
After all, he had only just woken up, and his body was still extremely weak.
“All right. I’ll take care of it immediately.” Huo An nodded repeatedly. “Master, get some rest. I’ll send more people to guard the outside.”
Especially the windows. He hadn’t forgotten that Su Ni had climbed in through one.
Su Ni returned to the first-floor hall, only to run straight into Su Jingheng, who had come looking for her.
Su Jingheng grabbed Su Ni by the arm, his expression frighteningly grim, the veins on his forehead throbbing.
“Su Ni, have you been treating my warning as nothing but hot air? If I can have you locked up once, I can do it a second time.”
“Heh.” Su Ni gave a cold snort and broke free of his grip. “How could I possibly dare doubt the word of Lawyer Su?”
Mother Su hurried over and lowered her voice.
“Su Ni, if you’re determined to embarrass yourself, then go back to the countryside. This isn’t a place for you to run wild.”
She turned to Su Jingheng.
“I’ll deal with her. Your father is waiting to introduce you to a few company presidents. Don’t let this interfere with important business.”
“Fine.”
Su Jingheng shot Su Ni a warning glare before turning and walking away.
Mother Su dragged Su Ni into an empty corner. The smile vanished from her face instantly, replaced by undisguised fury. She raised her hand and was about to slap her.
“You ungrateful brat! You did this on purpose today, didn’t you? Do you have any idea how important this marriage alliance is to the Su family?”
Quick as a flash, Su Ni caught her mother’s wrist. Her gaze was icy as she stared at her.
“You Su family people are always trying to hit someone. That’s a sickness. It needs treatment!”
Mother Su was startled by Su Ni’s gaze and froze for a moment. She had never imagined that the once-gentle Su Ni would become so forceful after returning from the mental hospital.
A moment later, she violently shook Su Ni’s hand away.
“Don’t be so ungrateful. Do you really think anyone would still be willing to marry a lunatic? You should be grateful that you can bring good fortune to the Huo family.”
“Marry into the Huo family just to pave the way for your precious Yaoyao?”
The corners of Su Ni’s lips curved into a mocking smile, but the smile never reached her eyes. There was only endless sorrow in them.
This woman was her biological mother.
“You…” Mother Su was just about to reprimand her when she noticed something strange about Su Ni’s gaze.
Following her line of sight, she saw two blurry figures in the distance, leaning intimately against each other.
Su Mengyao was the daughter she had raised herself, and Mother Su knew her silhouette better than anyone. The man beside her could only be Huo Minghui.
A proud smile immediately bloomed across Mother Su’s face.
Everything she had planned was unfolding exactly as expected.
She lifted her chin slightly, her eyes filled with smug satisfaction. Even when she looked at Su Ni, there was a hint of triumph in her gaze.
“Yaoyao is the daughter I raised with my own hands. Whether it’s her talent or her looks, she’s outstanding in every way. Once she marries into the Huo family and becomes the lady of the house, she certainly won’t mistreat you, her widowed sister-in-law.”
