She turned around in terror and frantically tugged at the handle, only to discover that no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t open the door.

Just then, a dark shadow drifted past behind Qu Wen, stirring up a bone-chilling gust of wind that made her shiver from head to toe.

She whipped around, but caught only a fleeting afterimage. The silhouette of that passing shadow reminded her of someone who had died long ago. Her legs instantly went weak with fear.Full novel: The Real Heiress Keeps Revealing Her Hidden Identities, and Her Whole Family Begs for Forgiveness — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Who? Who the hell is pretending to be a ghost back there?!”

Suddenly, the lights in the room began to flicker, alternately bright and dim. When they flickered again, the shadow suddenly lunged right in front of Qu Wen.

What Qu Wen saw was the bloodied, mangled face of Xiaohui, who had already died.

Xiaohui had been the maid responsible for taking care of Su Ni five years ago. She had fallen from the upper floor and died, landing face-first and smashing her face beyond recognition.

“Qu… Qu Wen…”

A whimper came from the shadow’s mouth, like wind moaning through the broken lattice of a ruined window. The sound seemed to rise from the depths of the underworld.

“Give… me… back… my… life…”

Qu Wen’s legs gave way, and she collapsed onto the floor.

“No… It wasn’t me… It wasn’t me…”

The shadow slowly raised one hand. Its fingers were twisted and deformed, its nails ripped away, leaving only bloody fingertips. Slowly, the hand reached toward Qu Wen.

“I’m in so much pain. Come down to hell with me!”

As that terrifying hand drew closer and closer, Qu Wen’s eyes rolled back.

With a loud *thud*, she fell stiffly backward and passed out from sheer terror.

The instant Qu Wen hit the floor, the shadow abruptly stopped.

Its nose twitched slightly.

The pungent smell of urine in the air was growing stronger.

It turned out that under the extreme terror, Qu Wen had lost control of her bladder.

“Tsk.”

The shadow let out a disdainful snort.

Immediately afterward, all the lights in the room snapped on at once.

The shadow slowly raised a hand and removed the black hood covering its head, revealing Su Ni’s ice-cold face.

Looking down at Qu Wen, who lay unconscious on the floor, Su Ni’s eyes were filled with disgust and contempt. She extended one foot and nudged Qu Wen’s body.

Qu Wen didn’t react.

“Can’t even take a little scare. How boring.”

Su Ni curled her lips, her voice filled with regret.

“I hadn’t had enough fun yet. What a shame.”

She’d had more fun with the old men at the psychiatric hospital. At least those old men had remained tough and healthy even after she’d tormented them for five years.

With one hand, she grabbed Qu Wen by the collar and lifted her off the ground. She opened the door and tossed her outside.

Qu Wen’s body hit the floor with a heavy, muffled thud.

At the same time, Su Mengyao came running back from the banquet in tears.

“Miss, you’re back…”

A maid hurried forward to greet her.

“Get out of my way!”

Su Mengyao screamed and kicked the maid aside. Caught off guard, the maid stumbled and fell flat on her back.

Su Mengyao didn’t even spare her a glance. She rushed into the house crying, making such a commotion that her mother came out to see what was happening.

Her mother hurried over, looking anxious.

“Yaoyao, what happened? You went to a perfectly good gathering. Why are you crying like this?”

Su Mengyao threw herself into her mother’s arms and sobbed as though her heart were breaking.

“Mom, this is so humiliating! How am I ever supposed to face anyone again?!”

Her mother patted her back sympathetically, comforting her while pressing for an explanation.

“Good girl, Yaoyao, don’t cry. Hurry and tell Mom what happened.”

Su Mengyao sniffled and finally managed to catch her breath.

“I was chatting with them at the gathering, everything was fine, and then suddenly… suddenly…”

At that point, embarrassment flashed across her face. She opened her mouth, then swallowed the words back down. It was simply too humiliating. There was no way she could bring herself to say it.

Just then, everyone suddenly heard a rapid succession of farting sounds.

*Pfft, pfft, pfft.*

The noises were especially jarring and loud in the quiet room.

Su Mengyao’s face instantly turned bright red. Her eyes widened in shock and embarrassment. She instinctively squeezed her legs together, but the sounds continued to escape uncontrollably.

Her mother was equally stunned. She never would have imagined something like this could happen.

After a moment of bewilderment, she hurriedly looked at Su Mengyao and asked anxiously, “Yaoyao, did you… eat something that upset your stomach?”

Su Mengyao was furious and mortified, tears welling up in her eyes. Seeing several servants still standing nearby made her feel even more humiliated.

She immediately screamed hysterically at them, “All of you, get out! Get out!”

The servants hurriedly lowered their heads and scrambled out in fear.

“Mom, how am I ever supposed to face anyone after this?”

At that moment, Su Mengyao wished she could simply die.

“Don’t be scared, Yaoyao. I’ll call the family doctor right now and find out what’s wrong.”

Her mother had already figured out what was happening and decided that the most important thing was to get Su Mengyao treated first.
