The doctor arrived quickly. After giving Su Mengyao some medicine and an injection, he finally stopped her uncontrollable flatulence.
After the doctor left, Mother Su stayed with Su Mengyao to discuss how to deal with the aftermath.
“Don’t worry. I’ve already taken care of those people. What happened today absolutely won’t get out,” Mother Su comforted her softly.
Su Mengyao said angrily, “You gave them so many benefits, so of course they wouldn’t dare say anything. But I just can’t swallow this humiliation!”
Su Mengyao had invited several young ladies from smaller families today. She had originally planned to show off her newly acquired limited-edition handbag. Usually, they were the ones fawning over her, but today she had made a complete fool of herself in front of them. How could she possibly let that go?
Afraid that she might cause more trouble, Mother Su quickly said, “There’ll be plenty of opportunities to deal with them later. Right now, the most important thing is to get Su Ni married into the Huo family as soon as possible. And then there’s your eighteenth birthday party in a few days…” She spoke meaningfully. “Mother knows what you have in mind. I’ve already made all the arrangements for you.”
Only then did some light return to Su Mengyao’s eyes at the mention of those two things. She took her mother’s hand and leaned against her shoulder coquettishly.
“Mom, I’m sorry for making you worry about me again.”
Mother Su smiled warmly and put an arm around her shoulders.
“You’re the precious daughter I raised with my own hands. If I don’t worry about you, who else would I worry about?”
The corners of Su Mengyao’s lips lifted, a smug gleam flashing in her eyes.
“I knew Mom loved me the most.”
So what if Su Ni was the biological daughter of the Su family?
Every single one of her relatives still regarded me as their precious treasure.
After Mother Su left, Su Mengyao ordered a maid to call Qu Wen over. She wanted to see the video of Su Ni making a fool of herself immediately. After such a miserable day, she finally had something to look forward to.
But the maid didn’t return for a long time.
Su Mengyao immediately flew into a rage. She raised her hand and slapped the maid hard across the face.
“Slap!”
The crisp sound echoed through the room, and the maid’s face instantly swelled red.
“Are you deaf? I told you to go get Qu Wen.”
The maid covered her face and began sobbing. Remembering what Qu Wen looked like now, she couldn’t help trembling.
“Miss, Qu Wen… she… she’s gone mad!”
“What? Gone mad?” Su Mengyao clearly didn’t believe her. “How could she suddenly go mad for no reason? I think it’s just an excuse you lowly servants are using because you’re too lazy to do your jobs.”
As she spoke, she began kicking and punching the maid again. The maid curled up on the floor, shielding her head and not daring to fight back.
“It’s true! Qu Wen really has gone mad. We all saw it. Steward Qu has already taken her away.”
Su Mengyao finally stopped after exhausting herself. She snorted coldly.
“What about Su Ni? How is Su Ni?”
“Miss Su?” The maid answered in confusion. “The eldest young lady is perfectly fine in her room.”
The moment Su Mengyao heard that, she knew the task she had given Qu Wen had failed.
She had made such a huge fool of herself today, while Su Ni was completely fine. She was practically furious enough to go insane herself.
“You useless fools! You can’t even handle such a simple matter. What good are you?”
The angrier Su Mengyao became, the more violently she lashed out. She lifted her foot and kicked the maid hard in the chest.
A scream rang out from the room.
Then there was silence.
Qu Wen had gone mad. Almost all the servants had seen her behaving hysterically, holding a knife and trying to cut the skin off her own body.
The next day, her parents came to resign on her behalf, claiming that she had fallen ill and could no longer work for the Su family.
But everyone knew that Qu Wen had gone insane. They had also heard that another maid had taken the day off the day before—the very maid who had been assigned to look after Su Mengyao.
Before long, all kinds of rumors began circulating among the servants. Everyone said that Su Mengyao had driven Qu Wen insane because of her vicious temper, and that the other maid had also been beaten by her.
For a while, every servant in the household lived in fear.
When Su Ni heard the news, she was sitting in her room reading.
Xiaohui had already been killed by them. So much time had passed that even if there had been any evidence, they had surely destroyed it by now. There was no way she could get revenge for Xiaohui through legitimate channels.
But Su Ni had her own way of taking revenge.
Qu Wen was only an accomplice. What happened to her could be considered interest on the debt for these past five years.
As for Su Mengyao, the true culprit, Su Ni would never let her off so easily.
