Zhao Yinuo walked forward with the others. They had barely gone far when, just after turning a corner, she spotted Tang Wan’s manager standing in the corner, talking on the phone. She had no idea who he was speaking to, but he was grinning obsequiously.
Zhao Yinuo only glanced at him before looking away.
So the phone signal was perfectly fine. He could make calls, yet he simply refused to answer Tang Wan’s calls. His attitude of standing by and doing nothing while she was in trouble was practically written all over his face.
Zhao Yinuo had no intention of greeting him. She walked past him, but the moment he saw her expression, he immediately panicked and began glancing suspiciously from side to side.
“Why are you here? Where’s Su Muyang? Did he come too?”
Zhao Yinuo gave a mocking laugh.
Well, at least his memory was good. He still remembered that Tang Wan’s official boyfriend was Su Muyang—and that whenever he was up to something shady, he had to watch out for the boyfriend.
“Su Muyang isn’t here.”
Zhao Yinuo answered coldly and started walking away, but the man suddenly reached out and grabbed her arm, stopping her.
“How did you end up here?”
“That’s none of your business. Let go of me.”
Zhao Yinuo shook his hand off in annoyance, but a sharp sting made her hiss. One of the metal embellishments on his clothes had accidentally scraped her arm, leaving two shallow cuts that immediately drew a little blood.
She frowned and lowered her head to examine the wounds, then looked up and glared at him.
Tang Wan’s manager had only been worried and wanted to stop her long enough to ask what was going on. He hadn’t meant to cause trouble. Seeing that he had scratched Zhao Yinuo’s arm, he looked somewhat sheepish.
“Sorry,” he muttered quietly.
He immediately stepped aside, looking guilty.
The two of them had never gotten along particularly well because of their artists’ relationship. They often rubbed each other the wrong way, though there were also times when they would work together to clean up after their respective stars. Tang Wan’s manager’s abilities were far greater than his character.
Since he had already apologized, Zhao Yinuo didn’t bother arguing with him. She simply turned and left.
Zhao Yinuo walked away without another word, but the man following behind her clearly wasn’t satisfied.
Expressionless, he looked Tang Wan’s manager up and down several times. Then, as he passed him, he deliberately stepped hard on the man’s instep.
“Yow!”
The manager let out a howl of pain.
The man didn’t even bother apologizing. Instead, he quickened his pace and walked ahead of Zhao Yinuo.
When Zhao Yinuo saw the tall figure suddenly stride in front of her, she no longer felt that this man was completely lacking in manners.
Stepping on someone’s foot was childish and unnecessary. Zhao Yinuo certainly wouldn’t have done something like that herself—she wasn’t in the habit of making enemies.
Still, she couldn’t help thanking him.
“Thanks for standing up for me.”
The man said nothing. He merely turned his head and gave her an arrogant sideways glance before continuing forward on his own.
When they reached Zhao Yinuo’s car, the man finally spoke.
“Your car is kind of ugly…”
He might enjoy stirring up trouble, but he wasn’t about to make himself uncomfortable. There was no way he wanted to ride in a car like this.
Ugly?
Zhao Yinuo took a deep breath.
“You seem pretty sober now. Go to the hospital yourself. I’m leaving.”
She had already done what Tang Wan had asked and gotten this man away from the scene. Since he clearly didn’t appreciate her help, she saw no reason to keep being nice to him.
“Where are you going? My car is here. Get in.”
As soon as he finished speaking, an elegant Rolls-Royce appeared in front of Zhao Yinuo, followed by a whole team of bodyguards dressed in black suits.
The entrance was undeniably over-the-top, but there was no denying that it was impressive.
Zhao Yinuo froze—not just her expression, but her entire body.
After standing there for two seconds, she finally asked in disbelief, “Yours? And those are your bodyguards?”
“Mm.”
So they really were his bodyguards.
Zhao Yinuo’s expression became rather complicated.
After working as Su Muyang’s right-hand woman for so many years, she had seen her fair share of how wealthy families operated. But this young heir’s level of extravagance still managed to broaden her horizons.
Back when Su Muyang hadn’t yet become a top celebrity and was merely the young master of the Su family, he never took bodyguards with him when he went out.
Neither did his father.
At most, Su Muyang’s father would bring one or two bodyguards when traveling abroad. He certainly wouldn’t go around with an entire squad like this man.
With public security in the country being what it was, bringing such a huge entourage of bodyguards everywhere was honestly just a waste of money.
Zhao Yinuo slowly exhaled and decided it would be better to keep her distance.
“Since your bodyguards are here, there’s nothing left for me to do. I’m leaving.”
“Where are you going?”
“Back inside. My friend is still in there.”
“No. We have to go to the hospital.”
At this point, there was no way he was going to skip the hospital tonight.
The man pointed at Zhao Yinuo’s arm and reminded her solemnly, “You’re bleeding.”
“I know.” Zhao Yinuo lowered her head and looked at the scratches on her arm. “It’s already stopped.”
It was only a minor scrape. The skin had barely been broken, and it wasn’t bleeding anymore.
“No. A doctor needs to treat the wound.”
The man’s expression was completely serious.
“Get in.”
He said it without waiting for Zhao Yinuo to answer, then calmly turned and sat down in the back seat of the car.
Zhao Yinuo was just about to refuse when the man who looked like the head of the bodyguard team stepped forward and extended a hand toward her.
“Ma’am, please.”
The word please sounded polite enough, but with an entire squad of bodyguards standing there, the situation felt anything but polite. The threat was unmistakable.
Should she refuse?
She suddenly felt that she probably didn’t dare.
If she refused, would she and the driver she had brought with her simply be bundled into the car?
One of the bodyguards even had a scar running across his brow. He looked exactly like the kind of man you didn’t want to mess with.
Zhao Yinuo forced the corners of her mouth upward and gave her driver a meaningful look.
“Stay here and wait for Muyang. I’ll go to the hospital with this friend first.”
“Yes, President Zhao.”
The driver nodded and discreetly memorized the string of license plate numbers.
As long as she still had her phone in her hand, Zhao Yinuo could keep herself calm.
Once she got into the car, she sat stiffly without saying a word, but her mind was racing.
She desperately tried to figure out which wealthy family this young man belonged to.
Someone who traveled with such an extravagant entourage should have been extremely conspicuous. There was no way she could have never heard of him.
Could he be some nouveau riche who had come from another city?
The inside of the car remained eerily silent. No one said a word.
It wasn’t until they got out of the car at the hospital and Zhao Yinuo saw a group of doctors in white coats walking toward them that she finally couldn’t contain her curiosity.
“Is your condition really that serious?”
Could it be that the drug he had been given wasn’t an ordinary one? Had there been some kind of hallucinogen mixed in?
The man looked at her in confusion, seemingly unable to understand why she would ask such a question.
When the group of doctors reached them, he simply pointed at Zhao Yinuo.
“Look at her. She’s injured.”
In an instant, several doctors in white coats surrounded Zhao Yinuo.
“Wait, me? I only have a tiny scratch!”
