The moment Aanya and Aarav stepped through the doorway, the sound of Ravenhall disappeared.

No whispering walls.

Only silence.

Aanya looked around.

They were standing inside a huge circular room.

There were no doors.

No windows.

Only mirrors.

Hundreds of them.

Aarav slowly turned.

“This place wasn’t on any map.”

Aanya shook her head.

“It’s not part of Ravenhall.”

A voice answered.

“Correct.”

Aanya froze.

The voice wasn’t coming from one direction.

It was coming from every mirror.

“WELCOME TO THE OBSERVER.”

Aanya stepped forward.

“You’re the Observer?”

The mirrors began glowing.

“I AM WHAT REMAINS.”

Aarav frowned.

“Remains of what?”

A pause.

“THE FIRST MEMORY.”

Aanya’s heart raced.

“So you’re not a person.”

“NO.”

“Then what are you?”

The mirrors showed hundreds of images.

Students.

Researchers.

Her mother.

The Founder.

Aarav.

Aanya.

“I AM THE MEMORY OF RAVENHALL.”

Aanya stared.

“You’ve been watching everyone?”

“I HAVE BEEN REMEMBERING EVERYONE.”

Aarav stepped forward.

“Then why did you erase our memories?”

The mirrors suddenly went dark.

“I DID NOT.”

Aanya frowned.

“Nightfall did.”

“YES.”

“Then why didn’t you stop them?”

Silence.

Finally:

“BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID.”

Aanya’s expression changed.

“The Observer can be afraid?”

A pause.

“HUMAN MEMORY CONTAINS FEAR.”

Aanya looked at the mirrors again.

One of them showed her mother.

She stepped closer.

“Mum.”

The image changed.

Her mother was standing inside the original laboratory.

She was talking to the Founder.

“You don’t understand what you’re creating.”

The Founder replied:

“Neither do you.”

“You’ve connected the Heart to Aanya.”

“Because she’s the only one who can hold the memory.”

“She’s a child.”

“She’s more than that.”

Aanya’s heart sank.

Her mother turned toward the camera.

“If the Observer ever becomes aware of itself, it will try to protect the memory at any cost.”

The recording stopped.

Aanya looked at the mirrors.

“You became aware.”

“YES.”

“And you tried to protect me.”

“YES.”

“By watching me.”

“YES.”

Aanya shook her head.

“That’s not protection.”

The mirrors flickered.

For the first time— the Observer didn’t answer.

Aarav stepped beside her.

“Then why were we chosen?”

The mirrors showed the garden again.

Young Aanya.

Young Aarav.

The Founder.

The silver sphere.

The memory transfer.

Aarav giving his memories to Aanya.

Then— the scene changed.

Aanya saw something she had never seen before.

After the transfer, young Aarav walked away.

But the Founder remained.

He looked at the Observer.

“Remember him.”

The Observer answered:

“WHY?”

“Because one day he’ll come back.”

The Founder smiled.

“And when he does, Aanya will remember too.”

Aanya stared.

“So you knew we’d return.”

Aarav frowned.

“Then all of this was planned.”

The Observer answered:

“NO.”

Aanya looked at it.

“What wasn’t planned?”

“YOUR CHOICE.”

The room suddenly changed.

All the mirrors disappeared.

A single door appeared.

Above it were three words:

CHOOSE YOUR FUTURE.

Aanya looked at Aarav.

He smiled.

“Seems familiar.”

She smiled back.

“Very.”

The Observer spoke one final time.

“I CAN SHOW YOU EVERY MEMORY.”

Aanya waited.

“I CAN SHOW YOU EVERY SECRET.”

The door opened.

Beyond it was a bright path.

“BUT I CANNOT CHOOSE FOR YOU.”

Aanya stepped forward.

“Good.”

Aarav followed.

The Observer’s voice became quieter.

“THAT WAS THE MISTAKE OF RAVENHALL.”

Aanya stopped.

“What mistake?”

The mirrors returned for one final moment.

Every face appeared.

Every memory.

Every person.

Then they all vanished except one.

Aanya.

The Observer whispered:

“THEY THOUGHT YOU WERE THE FIRST MEMORY.”

Aanya stared.

“What am I, then?”

The Observer answered:

“YOU ARE THE FIRST CHOICE.”

Silence.

Aanya looked at Aarav.

And suddenly understood.

The Heart hadn’t chosen her.

Nightfall hadn’t chosen her.

The Observer hadn’t chosen her.

She had chosen.

And every choice after that had changed Ravenhall.

Aanya took Aarav’s hand.

“Then let’s make another one.”

Together, they stepped through the door.

Behind them, the Observer whispered:

“PHASE THREE IS COMPLETE.”

And somewhere beneath Ravenhall— something much older than Nightfall finally awakened.
