Aanya and Aarav stepped through the doorway.
They expected another chamber.
Instead— they found a corridor.
It was long.
Completely white.
No paintings.
No symbols.
No dust.
No sound.
Aanya looked behind them.
The door had disappeared.
“We can’t go back.”
Aarav nodded.
“Then we keep going.”
They walked.
One minute.
Then five.
Then ten.
Nothing changed.
Until Aanya noticed something.
“There.”
A door stood on the left.
A silver number was engraved on it.
1
Aarav looked ahead.
Another door.
2
Then another.
3.
Aanya’s expression changed.
“Thirteen doors.”
Aarav nodded.
“Like the thirteen stars.”
They continued.
Doors appeared on both sides.
4.
5.
6.
Each one was identical.
Until they reached—
12.
The corridor ended.
There was no thirteenth door.
Aanya frowned.
“Where’s thirteen?”
Aarav looked at the wall.
“Maybe there isn’t one.”
Then Aanya noticed something.
A faint silver line ran across the floor.
It stopped directly in front of them.
She followed it with her eyes.
It went upward.
Onto the wall.
Then formed the outline of a door.
Aanya whispered:
“It’s hidden.”
Aarav placed his hand against it.
Nothing happened.
Aanya placed hers beside his.
The wall began glowing.
“TWO MEMORIES DETECTED.”
Aanya looked at Aarav.
The voice continued.
“TWO CHOICES DETECTED.”
Aarav frowned.
“What’s the test?”
The wall answered:
“NO TEST.”
The hidden door opened.
“A QUESTION.”
Aanya stepped inside.
The room was completely dark.
Then a single light appeared.
It illuminated two chairs.
One for Aanya.
One for Aarav.
Aanya sat.
Aarav sat opposite her.
The light became brighter.
A voice spoke.
“IF YOU COULD ERASE ONE MEMORY…”
Aanya’s expression changed.
“…which one would you choose?”
Silence.
Aarav looked at her.
“You don’t have to answer.”
“I know.”
The voice repeated:
“WHICH MEMORY?”
Aanya thought about everything.
The Heart.
The resets.
Nightfall.
Her mother.
The fear.
The pain.
Then she shook her head.
“None.”
The room went silent.
Aarav looked at her.
“None?”
Aanya nodded.
“Every memory brought me here.”
She looked at him.
“And I don’t want to erase the path that brought me to you.”
Aarav smiled.
“I’d choose the same.”
The light suddenly disappeared.
The voice spoke again.
“ANSWER ACCEPTED.”
A door opened behind them.
Beyond it was a room filled with old books.
Aanya walked toward the nearest shelf.
There were thousands.
But every book had the same title:
THE LEGACY.
She pulled one out.
The cover opened by itself.
Inside was a single sentence:
Aanya turned the page.
IT WAS BUILT TO FIND THE PERSON WHO COULD CHANGE IT.
Aarav looked over her shoulder.
“That’s you.”
Aanya shook her head.
“Maybe not.”
She turned another page.
There was a photograph.
The Founder.
Aanya’s mother.
And someone standing between them.
A person whose face had been scratched out.
Aarav stared.
“Who’s that?”
Aanya touched the photograph.
The scratched area began glowing.
Then— the face slowly appeared.
Aanya froze.
She knew that face.
It was the old woman.
Aanya turned around.
She wasn’t there.
“Aarav…”
He looked at the photograph.
“She lied to us.”
Aanya turned the page.
A final sentence appeared:
SHE WAS THE FIRST KEEPER.
Suddenly, the book slammed shut.
The entire library shook.
A voice echoed from somewhere above them.
Not the Observer.
Not the Heart.
Something new.
“YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE FOUND THAT.”
Aanya looked upward.
“Who are you?”
No answer.
Then the shelves began moving.
One after another.
Creating a path toward the center of the library.
At the end stood a single black door.
Aarav looked at Aanya.
“Another door.”
She nodded.
“But this one feels different.”
They approached it.
There was no lock.
Only a sentence carved into the surface:
THE KEEPER IS NOT YOUR ENEMY.
Aanya touched the words.
The door opened.
And on the other side— stood the old woman.
But she wasn’t alone.
Beside her stood a younger version of Aanya’s mother.
Aanya stopped breathing.
“Mum?”
Her mother looked at her.
And smiled.
“You’re finally old enough to know the truth.”
