[Forever Yours] 5 black…
Outside the window, dark clouds blot out the sun as a gentle drizzle wets the entire university district.
In the female dormitory building of Jianghai Film Academy, there were very few people around. Even on days off, even if students didn’t go to the library, most wouldn’t obediently stay in their dorm rooms.
In Room 1706, three carefully dressed girls were fully prepped and ready to head out.
“Weiwei, are you really not going? Everyone says this haunted house is super fun and exciting. My treat!” The dorm leader picked up her crossbody bag and extended the invitation to Jiang Wei once more before stepping out the door.
Jiang Wei was lying on her bed, resting her chin on her right hand as she gazed lazily out the window. Hearing this, she drew her eyes back and declined with a smile: “No, no, you guys go ahead and have fun. I just want to lay in the dorm all day.”
Seeing that she couldn’t persuade her, the dorm leader had no choice but to give up. She patted Jiang Wei on the arm, turned around, and walked out the door.
The dormitory instantly fell quiet. Jiang Wei turned over comfortably and gave a big stretch.
Haunted houses weren’t cheap, and rumor had it they were terrifyingly scary—it was practically paying money to suffer. Being as smart as she was, she wasn’t going to waste money on something like that.
Jiang Wei pulled out her phone and happily began scrolling through all kinds of cat videos. Though the screen was slightly cracked, she never grew tired of it.
Before she knew it, the rain outside grew much heavier, adding a touch of loneliness to the room.
“I really want to go out and play!”
A mist rose with the rain, cloaking the bustling world in a haze—faint, indistinct, and drifting.
Thump! A knock on the door broke the silence in the room.
Jiang Wei turned her head toward the door, but heard no further sound. Getting off the bed, she opened the door with a bit of uncertainty.
Whoosh! A sudden gust of wind rushed into the dormitory, lifting her jet-black long hair as if trying to pull her into an embrace.
The corridor was completely empty—not a soul in sight, nor a single sound. Even the noise of the rain had vanished.
The world had never been this quiet.
Yet, as if sleepwalking, Jiang Wei didn’t feel anything was amiss. A medium-sized cardboard box was sitting neatly right at the dormitory doorstep.
“Deliveries can even be brought straight to the dorm room?”
Jiang Wei muttered under her breath, bending down to pick up the box.
In an instant, the noise of human voices, rain, and footsteps all rushed back at her at once.
Yet Jiang Wei turned a deaf ear to it all, staring blankly at the box in her hands. The recipient’s name written on it was actually her own.
She was certain she hadn’t bought anything online for at least a month.
Unable to wait any longer, she returned to the dorm room and, almost driven by a sense of craving, rapidly tore open the box. Resting quietly inside was a white phone box.
Surprisingly, there was no logo anywhere on the lid—only five bold, large red words:
[Forever Yours]
Jiang Wei’s movements froze. Snapping back to her senses, a sudden chill of dread rose in her heart.
“This couldn’t be a gift from some pursuer, could it? Why does it feel so creepily perverted?”
Turning it over and over, she found nothing resembling a confession letter in the box, nor inside the phone box itself. There was only a brand-new, latest-model phone—exquisite, luxurious, and quite expensive. And its screen wasn’t cracked…
“Nonsense.”
Jiang Wei let out a small laugh and prepared to close the phone box lid to return everything to its original state, waiting for someone to come by so she could return it to its rightful owner.
However, when she snapped out of it again, she was actually already playing with the new phone. The SIM card had been inserted, registration was complete, and apps were downloaded. On the squeaky-clean, brand-new screen, a cute cat was meowing away.
“!?” Jiang Wei dropped the phone as if struck by electricity.
The phone landed on the floor with a loud thump.
Shocked, Jiang Wei hurriedly picked up the phone—if this thing broke, she couldn’t afford to pay for it.
Thank goodness, the phone screen wasn’t cracked, and there wasn’t even a single scratch on the casing.
“As expected of high tech!” Jiang Wei gasped in admiration, feeling a bit puzzled again. “Did I really want a new phone this badly? It’s like I was possessed.”
She exited the short video app and checked it carefully once more, but her eyes were involuntarily drawn to a pure black icon on the home screen.
That icon was unbelievably black, without even a single ray of reflected light—like a hollow cave sunken into the screen, making one involuntarily want to explore what lay within.
“What app is this?”
With a hint of hesitation yet completely unable to control herself, she tapped on the black icon and immediately pulled her finger back, as if afraid of being bitten.
In an instant, total darkness fell inside the room, making it impossible to see one’s own hand before one’s face—as if dropping into pitch-black night all at once. Jiang Wei should have been panicked and helpless, but her eyes became as serene as the night sky. She lifted her head, looking deep into the boundless darkness above.
It was as if some existence was sitting high above the black sky, looking back down at her.
At the exact moment their eyes met, it descended upon this place.
