The Nullifer now stood between Meila and me.
I was quite relieved that Meila had come to help, although her appearance was a little unsettling.
The Nullifer looked at Meila, then at me, seemingly assessing the situation.
I could tell because it did not attack immediately.
If it wasn’t going to attack first, then I would make the first move.
I threw the sword at the Nullifer with all my strength.
It noticed my attack and deflected the sword with its thick tail, sending it flying into the air.
Meila used the opportunity to attack.
She immediately dashed toward the Nullifer and threw a punch.
The Nullifer tried to block it with its massive arm, but Meila’s punch was so powerful that its arm was knocked aside.
Without stopping, Meila jumped and aimed for its head.
But the Nullifer opened its mouth, and a red light slowly began to form inside.
It was about to fire that plasma attack again.
I ran as fast as I could.
I reached my hand toward the sky and focused, trying to catch the sword that had been knocked upward with telekinesis.
I hoped it would fall directly into my hand.
Sure enough, the sword landed perfectly in my palm.
Before the Nullifer could unleash its plasma attack again, I struck its lower jaw with the sword, forcing the bipedal lizard to close its mouth.
Meila successfully landed a powerful punch directly against the side of its jaw.
The impact created a powerful gust of wind and knocked the massive creature slightly backward.
She still wasn’t satisfied.
She took a firm stance before throwing another punch at the Nullifer’s body.
The gust of wind was even stronger this time.
I could tell just how powerful that punch was.
The Nullifer rolled across the ground after taking the hit, but it didn’t take long before it attempted to stand again.
“Ghuk!” I saw Meila spit out a considerable amount of blood.
Her nose was bleeding heavily, and blood continued to stream from her eyes like tears.
“Are you okay?” I was a little worried about her.
“It’s nothing.
Just the price of my power.” “…How long can you keep going?” Meila didn’t answer my question immediately.
“…..I want to end this fight as quickly as possible.” So she had her own limit.
The Nullifer stood again and stared at us.
It looked at my condition, then Meila’s, before smiling once more.
“Die…..Not…..long…..You…..die…” Considering our current condition, the Nullifer had the advantage.
It had only lost one horn and one eye.
Meanwhile, neither Meila nor I were in good shape.
I had a wound in my abdomen, while Meila seemed to be pushing herself toward her limit.
That lizard’s skin was incredibly thick.
Simply slashing or stabbing it wouldn’t be enough to injure it.
If missiles existed in this era, they would probably be extremely useful right now.
I looked up at the sky.
It was still dark, and heavy rain continued to pour down on both Meila and me.
Then I realized something.
I looked at the sword, then back at the sky.
Maybe I could do it.
It would be useless if the lizard moved from its position, though.
I looked at Meila.
There was one thing I wanted to ask of her.
“Can I ask you for one thing?
It concerns our chances of winning.” “What is it?” “Keep that bipedal lizard in one place for as long as possible.
Can you do that?” Meila glanced at me.
Her expression looked terrifying, and there was no smile on her face.
“I’ll try.” Meila dashed toward the Nullifer at incredible speed.
I used telekinesis to throw the sword into the sky, continuing to push it higher and higher.
I didn’t know how far I could control the sword or how proficient I was with this new ability.
But if there was even a chance of winning, I was willing to take it.
I focused intensely on controlling the sword, continuously forcing it upward until it passed through the clouds.
My hand remained raised as I concentrated, hoping that keeping my hand raised would make controlling it easier.
Meila threw a punch, but the Nullifer jumped backward to avoid it before counterattacking with its tail.
Meila caught the tail with both hands, though the force pushed her back several meters.
I pointed my hand toward the Nullifer and focused, locking my gaze onto the lizard.
The Nullifer spun its body 360 degrees, intending to strike Meila with its tail again.
This time, however, Meila caught it with both hands.
For some reason, I had a feeling she was about to do something insane.
Even so, I had to warn her.
“LOOK OUT!” One word escaped my mouth, and Meila seemed to understand what I meant.
She twisted her body and attempted to slam the creature into the ground.
Her feet dug into the wet earth as she lifted the massive creature into the air before slamming it down.
Thud.
She actually did it.
That bipedal lizard was much larger than Meila, yet she had actually managed to throw it.
She didn’t even look human anymore.
Her current appearance only made that more obvious.
Meila immediately jumped backward.
Then something fell from the sky at incredible speed.
Whoosh.
BOOM.
The sword struck the Nullifer at tremendous speed, and the resulting impact was enormous.
The shockwave sent Meila flying backward.
Smoke from the impact obscured the Nullifer that had been struck by the falling sword.
I caught Meila with my left hand and braced myself against the powerful shockwave.
Fragments of metal flew in every direction.
I covered Meila’s face to protect her from the debris.
Sure enough, a fragment struck my right hand.
Not long after that, everything became silent.
The rain stopped.
There was no more thunder or wind.
The smoke slowly cleared.
A massive crater had formed in front of us.
There was nothing there.
Not even a fragment of the sword I had turned into a missile remained.
The Nullifer had disappeared.
That meant we had won.
Modern tactics really worked.
The storm had passed, and sunlight began to shine through the clouds.
“It’s over,” Meila murmured.
Her body gradually returned to normal, although blood still flowed from her eyes and mouth.
I touched the wound in my abdomen.
It was still open, and blood continued to flow from it.
I released Meila and sat down weakly.
I suddenly felt extremely dizzy, and the pain was becoming much worse.
“This is bad.
I can’t hold out much longer.” My body collapsed backward, leaving me lying helplessly on the ground.
I could see Meila’s worried expression.
Slowly, my vision became blurry.
Then everything turned black.
Darkness.
I didn’t dream of anything.
I wasn’t in that place from before, either.
There was only darkness.
Slowly, I opened my eyes.
I was somewhere completely different.
Instead of the sky, I was staring at the ceiling of a building.
I tried to sit up and realized that my body had been bandaged.
My wounds had been treated, though they weren’t completely healed.
I looked around.
There were many people being treated here.
The number of people who were still able to move was surprisingly small.
The atmosphere was rather gloomy.
I wanted to go outside.
I tried to stand, but one of the nurses stopped me.
“Sir, you’re still receiving treatment.” “No, it’s fine.
I won’t go far.” The nurse still looked worried, but once she saw that I could walk normally, her concern seemed to fade.
“All right.
Don’t do anything strenuous.
It’s important for your condition.” “I understand.” I walked outside and realized that night had already fallen.
There were countless corpses lined up across the ground.
There were even more than there had been after the attack on the village.
I could hear people crying from here.
I could feel their anger.
I could feel their hatred.
I could also feel their acceptance.
This sight…
I couldn’t bear to look at it for too long.
As I was about to go somewhere else, I saw Sera standing there with an empty gaze, staring at the corpses.
Sera looked toward me.
Her expression was one of disbelief, as though she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
Surprise was clearly visible in her eyes.
Slowly, she stood up and walked toward me.
She stopped directly in front of me.
Her eyes showed sadness, even though her expression seemed to be trying to hide it.
She stared at me with those eyes.
“Marc….
Marc…” she stammered.
Ah.
I understood.
That old man had left us.
“Marc….
I did it…..
I….
killed him…..
I-I…” I slowly placed my hand on her head.
“I’m glad you’re alive.” I tried to encourage her with a smile.
Tears began to stream from her eyes.
The sadness she had been holding back could no longer be contained.
She lowered her head and rested it against my chest.
I gently stroked her head.
And for some reason, I remembered my little sister crying to me when she was young.
