When Song Jiang saw Xu You, she lunged toward her and grabbed her braid.

Xu You cried out in pain and was caught completely off guard.

Shen Xu had not been eating or sleeping well lately. He had come to the hospital to take a look around, only to encounter a patient attacking a doctor.Full novel: The Tough Commander & His Feisty Military Doctor: Separate Rooms on Their Wedding Night! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He quickly stepped forward.

“Let go! If you don’t, don’t blame me for being rude!”

Song Jiang glared viciously at Shen Xu.

“You little vixen, Xu You! Is this the man you’ve been fooling around with? Does he know that you killed your own husband? That your husband died without even having his body intact?”

The moment Shen Xu heard that the doctor being attacked was Xu You, he didn’t hesitate for a second. He grabbed Song Jiang’s arm and dislocated it.

Song Jiang’s arm hung limply at her side, but she continued cursing.

“Xu You, you really are something! My son has only been dead for two years, and you’re already preparing to marry this man? When you wake up from your dreams in the middle of the night, doesn’t your conscience hurt? You cut open my son’s skull! You made sure he died without his body intact! How can you calmly marry someone else?”

Xu You expressionlessly rubbed her sore scalp and redid her braid.

She had expected Song Jiang to come after her.

She just hadn’t expected it to happen so soon.

Song Jiang wished she could tear the calm expression off Xu You’s face!

When her only son had been hanging on by a thread, everyone had already sentenced him to death.

It was Xu You who calmly put on her white coat and said,

“I’m going to perform a craniotomy on Liang Jin.”

Everyone had opposed it, but as Liang Jin’s legal wife, Xu You had signed the surgical consent form.

Liang Jin died on the operating table.

There had been so many things Song Jiang hadn’t gotten the chance to say to her son before he was gone.

Song Jiang glared resentfully at Shen Xu.

“If you marry this poisonous woman, you could die mysteriously in your sleep without even knowing why! She’s a lunatic! She performed brain surgery on her own husband just to improve her surgical skills! She squeezed every last bit of usefulness out of him!”

The patients and their families who had gathered around all looked at Xu You in horror.

“So that’s how Dr. Xu became so skilled? She used people to practice on? That’s terrifying.”

“Is that man Dr. Xu’s boyfriend? I heard they’re getting married soon. After hearing this, what man would still be willing to marry her?”

Chu Ying was also among the onlookers.

She never expected Xu You and the man in front of her to have such a history.

What a pity her mother-in-law wasn’t here to join in the excitement. Otherwise, it would have been quite a show.

Shen Xu frowned tightly, ignoring the gossip around him.

“Dr. Xu, Chen Qingsong won’t believe these rumors. Before he left on his mission, he even asked me to process his marriage application. Once he returns from his mission, I’ll approve it for you two.”

Xu You tugged at the corner of her mouth, trying to force out a smile, but failed.

“I’m fine. She’s not wrong. My senior brother really did die on the operating table. I was the surgeon.”

“See? She admitted it herself! Xu You, I curse you to remain alone for the rest of your life! Even after you die, you should accompany my son. Otherwise, how can you justify operating on him when he trusted you?”

As Song Jiang continued cursing, she began to cry, her sobs filled with grief.

Dr. Pan called the security officers.

“Take her away. Don’t let her disrupt the hospital’s medical services any further.”

“It’s fine. Let her cry here.”

“She won’t hurt anyone.”

“I’m just the outlet for her emotions.”

The security officers saw that Song Jiang was only pounding her injured arm and was incapable of hurting anyone, so they simply stood nearby and kept watch.

The emergency department gradually returned to normal.

Xu You expressionlessly asked Song Jiang,

“Do you want me to put your arm back in place? If you leave it like this for too long, it might be difficult for you to grab my braid again in the future.”

Song Jiang gritted her teeth.

“None of your business.”

Xu You gave a soft snort. She grabbed Song Jiang’s arm and, before Song Jiang could react, snapped both arms back into place.

The moment her arms were restored, Song Jiang tried to lunge at Xu You again, but this time the security officers immediately restrained her.

Shen Xu brought over a chair and placed it in front of Song Jiang.

“Please have her sit down. We’ll deal with everything after Dr. Xu finishes her shift.”

Xu You gratefully nodded at Shen Xu before turning around and continuing her work.

The patients who had originally been waiting outside Xu You’s consultation room all scattered.

Xu You stood at the entrance of the consultation room, looked around, and called out loudly,

“All of you have nothing but minor aches and pains. Added together, they’re not even enough for me to practice on!”

Shen Xu lowered his eyes and chuckled softly.

That personality of hers really refused to suffer even the slightest loss.

Fortunately, he had never offended her.

When Director Yang arrived, he happened to hear Xu You’s arrogant declaration and nearly stumbled.

Good heavens.

How had he managed to recruit such a troublesome ancestor?

Director Yang politely escorted Song Jiang to the conference room.

Song Jiang didn’t want to go, but she had no choice.

As soon as they entered the conference room, Director Yang said to the psychiatric department director,

“Give Comrade Song a sedative.”

Xu You stopped him.

“No.”

Director Yang said, “Dr. Xu, I’ve already contacted the people in Shanghai. Comrade Song Jiang’s mental state isn’t very stable. Her family has been giving her sedatives regularly.”

Xu You looked at Song Jiang in shock.

Song Jiang had lived a respectable life and had been a doctor for her entire career. Her home was filled with boxes of letters of appreciation and silk banners from patients.

The sedative was administered, and Song Jiang lay face-down on the table, breathing heavily.

After a long while, Song Jiang slowly raised her head.

When she saw Xu You and all the unfamiliar people standing on alert around the room, she realized that she had probably suffered another episode.

“Do you have a comb?”

Xu You didn’t respond. She simply turned around and walked out of the conference room.

Song Jiang tucked the loose strands of hair behind her ears.

“I’m sorry for causing you all trouble.”

Director Yang sighed.

“Comrade Song, don’t blame Xiao Xu. She just isn’t good at expressing herself. Do you know why she was transferred from surgery to the emergency department? After she came out of Liang Jin’s operating room, she couldn’t hold a scalpel anymore.”

Song Jiang suddenly looked up at Director Yang.

As a retired doctor, she knew all too well what it meant for a surgeon to be unable to hold a scalpel.

When Liang Jin was alive, he often mentioned Xu You to his mother.

He had said that Xu You was a rare surgical genius, and that her hands were so steady, as though they had been born for surgery.

Song Jiang began to panic.

So her only son’s death had caused Xu You such profound pain as well.

She repeated blankly,

“I didn’t know. She never said anything. I didn’t know she was hurting too…”

If her son knew that Xu You could no longer hold a scalpel and was instead working in the emergency department doing simple bandaging and triage, would he blame her?

Director Yang said,

“Xiao Xu is still young. She has to look ahead. Otherwise, how is she supposed to live through the next several decades?”

Song Jiang’s breathing grew rapid, and she seemed to be on the verge of losing control again.

The psychiatric department director gave her another injection.

When Song Jiang slowly regained consciousness, Xu You was gently combing her hair.

“Xiao Xu, I forgot.”

“I forgot what Xiao Jin said before they pushed him into the operating room. He said that even if the gods themselves came, they wouldn’t be able to save him. He told me to treat you twice as well from then on, to make up for his share.”

Song Jiang covered her face.

“I forgot. How could I forget? Would Xiao Jin blame me? How could I forget? You’re not a god. How could you possibly have saved him?”

Xu You’s eyes reddened.

Her hand trembled slightly as she combed Song Jiang’s hair, but she stubbornly pressed her lips together and said nothing.
