Gu Jinzhou drаped а small blankеt over Ruаn Ruan’s legs, plасеd her fаvоrite juice within еasу rеach, аnd then switchеd into wоrkаhоlic mоde.

Hе was an ехtrеmely disciplined person, sоmеthing Ruan Ruan had witnessеd firsthаnd when he was studуing аbroad.

Su Ruanruan was also tapping away on her laptop, even more focused than Gu Jinzhou.

While sipping his coffee, Gu Jinzhou stole a glance at her. His narrow, doting phoenix eyes seemed to be watching a kitten hunting—her serious, hardworking expression was utterly adorable.

“What are you doing, Ruan Ruan?”

“Transfer me 5 million, and I’ll share my revenge plan!”

After signing a document, Gu Jinzhou picked up his phone and transferred 5 million to her.

“Go on, tell me what your revenge plan is. Is it to wet the bed and drive me crazy, or to starve yourself and worry me to death?”

Su Ruanruan retorted irritably, “Who didn’t wet the bed as a kid? Is it fun bringing up such ancient history?”

Gu Jinzhou’s thin lips curled into a meaningful smile. “Has my baby never wet the bed after growing up?”

Su Ruanruan suddenly remembered something, and her face flushed bright red.

She turned her back, fuming.

Who was this libertine? Give her back the upright and honorable Brother Jinzhou!

…

When Ruan Ruan turned sixteen and grew taller, transforming from a chubby girl into a little beauty, the Gu family began paying more attention to her social activities. She was allowed to go out and meet friends, but she had to report it first.

Gu Jinzhou, who was pursuing his doctorate abroad, would frequently video call her, repeatedly forbidding her from early romance and emphasizing that studying hard was her top priority.

Gu Jinzhou never swore in front of Ruan Ruan—not even a single “get lost”—for fear of frightening her.

He had started smoking at a young age, but he never smoked in front of Ruan Ruan. Whenever they were together, there was never a trace of cigarette smoke on him.

If Ruan Ruan hadn’t discovered a half-finished pack of cigarettes in his study abroad apartment, she would never have known that Gu Jinzhou smoked.

Ruan Ruan’s lively and obedient personality, along with her simple living environment, were entirely the result of Gu Jinzhou’s efforts.

She remembered that on her sixteenth birthday, the budding signs of early romance were nipped in the bud by Gu Jinzhou before they could even surface.

The night before her birthday, Ruan Ruan received a custom-made gown sent back to the country by Gu Jinzhou.

Gu Jinzhou’s original intention was for her to wear the beautiful gown and celebrate her birthday with him.

For sixteen years, they had never spent a birthday apart. Even when Gu Jinzhou was studying in the U.S., he refused to let distance affect their relationship. If he was too busy to leave the U.S., she would take a private jet to celebrate her birthday with him.

Although the Gu family had complaints, they were well aware of how much Gu Jinzhou cared for Ruan Ruan. You could give him a hard time, but you absolutely could not stop him from celebrating Ruan Ruan’s birthday—he would turn the world upside down.

So, the day before Ruan Ruan’s birthday, the Gu family held a birthday banquet for her.

The guests at the banquet were all familiar faces, including a handsome young man around Ruan Ruan’s age.

Wearing the custom-made gown Gu Jinzhou had sent, Ruan Ruan danced the first dance of the birthday banquet with the handsome young man. When Gu Jinzhou found out that night, he smoked an entire pack of cigarettes, dropped everything he was doing, and flew back to the country.Gu Jinzhou sat the sobbing little girl on his lap, meticulously guiding her to write a self-criticism on “Why Early Romance Is Wrong.”

…

Gu Group, CEO’s Office.

Su Ruanruan hadn’t visited in a long time, and she noticed a new astronomical telescope in the office!

As a child, she had no interest in star charts or the universe. Instead, she loved playing with tarot cards, pretending to be a witch every day, dragging Gu Jinzhou around to tell fortunes—even reading the futures of the Gu family’s cats and dogs.

Growing up, she developed a slight interest in the universe through physics class.

As Su Ruanruan was figuring out how to use the telescope, Gu Jinzhou’s deep, magnetic voice sounded, “Baby, are you here to keep me company today or the telescope?”

Su Ruanruan: “I’ll keep it company for now.”

Gu Jinzhou: “Do you know what the real purpose of an astronomical telescope is?”

Su Ruanruan: “Hmm?”

Gu Jinzhou: “You explore the universe, and I explore you.”

Su Ruanruan: “…”

To stop Gu Jinzhou from going mad with his astronomical telescope play, she obediently walked over and slumped into his arms, the weight of her soft curves bringing a pleased glint to his eyes.

Mu Xin’er sent her a WeChat message asking how her night had been.

Su Ruanruan: Not dead.

Mu Xin’er: Tsk tsk tsk, that’s practically the highest praise a man can get!

Su Ruanruan: Your terrible idea wasn’t punishing him—it was punishing me [crying emoji].

Su Ruanruan: Aren’t you coming back in two months? If possible, you should come back a month early. I have something very important to tell you, something that will affect both of us greatly.

Mu Xin’er: Ruan Ruan, my dear, how did you know I’m coming back in two months? I just decided that yesterday and haven’t told anyone yet! Hahaha, we really are sisters who share a telepathic bond!

Su Ruanruan broke into a cold sweat, nearly slipping up. Thankfully, Mu Xin’er was easygoing, or she would have been exposed!

Gu Jinzhou wiped her sweat with a tissue. “Uncomfortable being held by me?”

“No,” Su Ruanruan replied gloomily. “I’m just a little hot. I want to go outside to cool off.”

The first half of this novel’s plot revolved around the villainess Su Ruanruan scheming relentlessly for favor in the Su family, forcing Su Lan’er to put her in her place and, from a moral high ground, take both of Su Ruanruan’s kidneys.

The second half of the plot focused on the villainess Mu Xin’er interfering in the love between Su Lan’er and Rong Xiu. No one cared that Mu Xin’er was Rong Xiu’s fiancée because Su Lan’er declared, “The one who isn’t loved is the third wheel.” Rong Xiu and Su Lan’er flaunted their passion in front of Mu Xin’er, driving her mad until she died tragically in an asylum.

Su Ruanruan found a bitter amusement in the thought that this novel relied entirely on their pair of villainous sisters to carry the story.

Her smile faded as she remembered Gu Jinzhou’s fate. After the Su family’s appearance, the book never mentioned Gu Jinzhou again.

Only when Rong Xiu was mentioned would there be a passing reference: “The Gu Group is immensely powerful, and the Gu CEO is single and wealthy.”

Was the Gu CEO Gu Jinzhou or another member of the Gu family?

Su Ruanruan desperately tried to find any detail proving Gu Jinzhou was alive. She didn’t resent him for not saving her; she just wanted him to live well, with her memory living on in his heart.

“I just went to the CEO’s office and saw Mr. Gu and Miss Ruan Ruan hugging, so affectionate it was almost sickening.”

Fei Rong: “Don’t you think Miss Ruan Ruan is too spoiled? An adopted daughter isn’t worthy of Mr. Gu, is she?”Everyone’s expressions changed upon hearing these words, but not daring to offend Fei Rong, the board secretary, they forced out a few awkward laughs and left the restroom.

Su Ruanruan stood behind the money tree, observing secretly, and did not run into them.
