“Oh right, do you remember that warehouse area we pass on the way back?”
Shi Meiqing kept her eyes on the road ahead as she replied, “Yeah, why?”
“When we get there, make a turn. I rented a warehouse there and had some things custom-made. We’ll load them up before heading home.”
“Alright, but when did you rent a warehouse? Don’t tell me it’s full of supplies you bought for me? My space is tiny — it can’t hold that much.”
“Hehe, you’ll find out when we get there.”
“Hah, acting all mysterious now.”
“Hehe, surprises are supposed to stay secret. It wouldn’t be fun otherwise. Right, right — turn right up ahead. The last warehouse is the one.”
Shi Meiqing glanced ahead. “There are barely any people around here?”
“There used to be plenty, but this area’s too remote. After the wholesale market relocated, all these warehouses were left empty. That’s exactly why I chose this place.”
“Yep, this one. Stop here.”
The two got out of the car. Shi Meiqing looked around at the surroundings. The warehouse was in a very secluded spot. There was only one road leading in and out, while everything else was hidden behind barriers and overgrowth. If someone wasn’t specifically looking for it, they’d have a hard time finding it.
Zhao Qingye entered the password and opened the warehouse doors. “Quick, get inside.”
After both of them entered, Zhao Qingye shut the warehouse doors and pulled out a detection device, carefully scanning the area for any surveillance equipment.
“You really went through a lot to find this place. Looks like nobody’s been here for ages — the weeds are practically waist-high.”
“Yeah. That’s exactly why I picked it. There aren’t even security cameras around here anymore. Alright, everything’s clear.”
“You saw the numbers marked on the containers, right? Stack them in order from lowest to highest inside your space. Make sure they’re lined up properly — there should be locking latches on top.”
Inside the warehouse were ten objects resembling shipping containers, except their colors were much nicer, painted to resemble house exteriors.
“You mean…”
“Yep. Exactly what you’re thinking. Hurry and store them. There’s also furniture in another warehouse we still need to pick up later.”
The moment Shi Meiqing mentioned that the storage space was extremely tall, Zhao Qingye had come up with this idea. These were basically prefabricated modular houses — only custom-made.
Since there wouldn’t be natural disasters inside the space, as long as nothing shook violently, the stacked structures wouldn’t collapse even without foundations. Of course, they were incredibly heavy — and correspondingly expensive — built mainly for durability and practicality.
Shi Meiqing didn’t waste time talking. Following the serial numbers, she stored the square-shaped structures one by one into the space. Once inside, moving them around became much easier. The ten containers stacked together perfectly without gaps.
“Done.”
“Let’s go to the next warehouse.”
The next warehouse was right next door. It looked even worse than the previous one, almost as if it might collapse at any moment. Probably because it had been abandoned for too long — the walls were badly weathered and peeling.
After carefully checking the warehouse again, Zhao Qingye finally relaxed. “Same thing as before. Put everything here into the numbered containers inside your space.”
“Oh, okay. Seriously though, your brain’s getting more and more impressive.” Shi Meiqing teased while working.
“Well, obviously. Who do you think I’m doing all this for?” Zhao Qingye proudly lifted her chin. Between the two of them, Shi Meiqing was usually the more meticulous one.
“Girl, you really are the best to me.” Shi Meiqing exaggeratedly blinked, pretending to be moved to tears.
“Hmph. We’re basically sisters from different parents. If I don’t treat you well, who will I treat well?”
“Hurry up, there’s still one more warehouse. Oh right, all the gasoline we brought back this time should go on the top level. The top section was specially reinforced.”
“Okay. There’s more stuff?”
“When did you even order all this? Do you still have money left?” They had spent a fortune on the overseas trip alone. Shi Meiqing had tried to pay, but the curly-haired girl never let her.
“Relax, when have I ever been short on money?” Even her bank cards weren’t registered under her own name — just in case her unstable parents tried anything.
The two arrived at the last warehouse.
“You know I’ve got more cash than I could ever spend. Keep your own money for yourself. Once we get back, I’ll transfer some to you.”
Shi Meiqing was someone who genuinely enjoyed life, but she had never cared about luxury. Their grandparents had influenced her deeply — comfort mattered more than flashy designer brands.
She truly had an enormous amount of money. For an ordinary family, it would’ve been enough to last several lifetimes. To her now, it was just a string of numbers.
Zhao Qingye didn’t bother being polite with her. “Alright. I’ve got less than a hundred million left right now, and there’s still tons of stuff I want to buy.”
“Just transfer me two hundred million first. We can slowly buy the rest along the road. Are you really sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?”
Shi Meiqing looked around the now-empty warehouse and dusted off her hands. “No need. When the time comes, I’ll tell you in advance.”
Zhao Qingye lowered her head, blinking hard to force back the moisture in her eyes. “What nonsense are you talking about?”
Shi Meiqing vigorously rubbed Zhao Qingye’s curly hair. “Relax. At the very least, I can still spend another six months traveling around with you.”
“Ahhh! You brat! Your hands are filthy — don’t wipe them on my head!”
Shi Meiqing released her and ran outside laughing, deliberately provoking her just like during their usual playful fights.
Honestly, since she already knew that day would come sooner or later, she figured it was better to wait until it actually arrived before feeling sad.
Compared to others, she already had an advantage. At least she could use her remaining time to do more things without leaving regrets behind.
Shi Meiqing waited in the car for a while before Zhao Qingye finally got in. Her eyes were obviously red, but Shi Meiqing pretended not to notice.
“So, have you decided what to eat?”
“We’re eating at the Michelin restaurant downstairs near home. But we’ll need to stop several times on the way.”
“I already ordered food from a bunch of highly rated restaurants along the route. Not much — just a hundred takeout portions from each place. They should all be ready by now, so we can just pick them up and go.”
“After dinner, there’ll also be snacks delivered to the house. Around twenty portions of each. I didn’t dare order too much in one place in case people got suspicious. We’ll gather food slowly over time. Whenever we go out, we’ll collect more and store it in your space for you to eat later.”
She had already calculated everything. There were still six months left. As long as the two of them collected food little by little every time they ate out, then even if Meiqing ended up transmigrating into an apocalypse, she would still be able to survive comfortably.
