During that time, Director Li received a call. The moment he heard that Qin Ruoyao had finished writing the songs and was looking for singers to record them, he immediately decided to come take a look.

The Artists Department was on the 40th floor, while the Composition Department was on the 48th, so they met Director Li in the elevator.

After greeting Qin Ruoyao, Director Li moved behind her and stood next to Director Zhang. Nudging him with his elbow, he silently gestured for the sheet music.Full novel: Transmigrated into the CEO’s Cannon-Fodder Ex-Wife, I Chose to Take It Easy — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Without waiting for permission, he snatched the two pages from Director Zhang’s hands and began reading them, nodding along as he did.

The more he read, the wider his eyes became.

She really wrote these?

He tapped Director Zhang lightly and shot him a questioning look.

Director Zhang nodded firmly.

Director Li looked at Qin Ruoyao’s back in astonishment.

She was far too talented.

Comparing himself to her only made him feel inadequate.

If only she worked in his department.

As soon as the thought crossed his mind, he wanted to ask if she’d consider joining the Composition Department. Unfortunately, the elevator doors opened before he had the chance.

He decided to ask later.

The head of the Artists Department was Director Su, a capable and accomplished woman.

The moment she saw Director Zhang and Director Li, she greeted them with a smile.

“Well, this is a surprise. What brings you all here today? And who is this?”

When her gaze landed on Qin Ruoyao, she couldn’t help but admire her beauty.

With her striking appearance and elegant figure, Director Su assumed she was a new artist the two directors had brought over to sign.

Director Zhang hurried to explain.

“This is Miss Qin—our president’s wife.”

“What?”

Director Su froze.

The president’s wife?

She quickly stepped forward with a warm smile.

“Madam, welcome! Please, come in and have a seat.”

Qin Ruoyao politely declined.

“No need to be so formal. We’re actually here because we need your help.”

Director Su looked puzzled.

Director Zhang explained, “My drama has finished filming, but we’re still missing the songs. Madam Qin kindly wrote several tracks for us, and now we’d like to find singers to record them.”

After hearing this, Director Su turned to Qin Ruoyao in surprise.

“You write songs too, Madam? Are you a singer?”

Qin Ruoyao shook her head.

“Not at all. I just happen to know a little about songwriting. We need help finding singers, so thank you in advance, Director Su.”

Privately, she was thinking:

Let’s hurry. If Mo Junlin finishes his meeting and can’t find me, he’ll worry.

“Do you have anyone specific in mind?” Director Su asked.

Director Zhang and Director Li exchanged glances.

Neither of them knew.

Qin Ruoyao answered instead.

“Could I listen to their voices first?”

“Of course.”

Director Su immediately placed a laptop on the table.

“Here are the profiles for all our singers. Take your time.”

Qin Ruoyao worked quickly and listened carefully.

Fifteen minutes later, she selected two singers and wrote down their names.

“Let’s start with these two. You can recommend others for the remaining songs, Director Su.”

Director Su glanced at the names:

Zhang Jingyun and Wang Yufei.

Neither was particularly famous. They had each released only one or two songs before fading into obscurity.

Still, if the president’s wife had chosen them, she would trust her judgment.

“All right. I’ll contact them immediately. Let’s head to the recording studio while we wait.”

She took the sheet music and glanced through it.

There were quite a few songs.

They would need several more singers.

No one objected to Director Su’s suggestion.

The sooner they finished, the better.

As the four of them walked toward the recording studio, many employees noticed them.

Everyone was curious, but no one dared ask questions.

After all, these were all senior executives.

By the time they arrived, it was nearly eleven o’clock.

Zhang Jingyun and Wang Yufei were already there, slightly out of breath.

Both of them were little-known singers.

They had been practicing in the rehearsal room when their manager suddenly rushed in and told them to hurry to the recording studio because someone wanted them to record a song.

Neither of them believed it at first.

Only after entering the recording studio did they realize it was true.

Inside, they saw Director Su, Director Li from the Composition Department, Director Zhang, and a stunningly beautiful woman.

And that woman was none other than the president’s wife.

After confirming their names, Qin Ruoyao handed each of them a sheet of music.

She had already decided which singer suited which song while listening to their demo recordings.

“Take some time to familiarize yourselves with the songs. Once the accompaniment is ready, we can begin recording.”

Director Su had already sent the sheet music for arrangement.

At that moment, Qin Ruoyao’s phone rang.

It was Mo Junlin.

She quickly stepped aside to answer.

“Hello, honey. Have you finished your meeting?”

“Where are you?” Mo Junlin asked.

He had seen her message during the meeting.

When he returned to his office afterward and found she still hadn’t come back, he worried something might have happened.

“I’m at the recording studio. I’ll head back upstairs around lunchtime.”

Her voice was sweet and playful.

“What are you doing there? Watching celebrities? Listening to music?”

“Nope. It’s a secret.”

She smiled.

“I’m doing something good. I’ll tell you when I get back.”

“You’re keeping secrets from me now?”

Mo Junlin raised an eyebrow.

“Just be careful and keep an eye on the time.”

“Yes, sir, President Mo. Mwah!”

She blew him an exaggerated kiss before hanging up.

On the other end of the line, Mo Junlin shook his head with a smile before returning to his paperwork.

When Qin Ruoyao returned, the accompaniment had already been completed.

“They happened to be available right now, so it didn’t take long,” Director Su explained.

Turning to Zhang Jingyun and Wang Yufei, Qin Ruoyao asked, “Are you ready?”

While Qin Ruoyao had been on the phone, they had learned that these songs were for Director Zhang’s new drama.

Both women felt incredibly fortunate to have been given this opportunity.

At her question, they nodded eagerly.

They were ready.

Director Su opened two recording studios simultaneously so both singers could record at the same time.

The others listened from outside.

With so many department heads watching, the sound engineers were especially focused.

Though the singers weren’t famous, they had worked hard on their fundamentals.

After just three takes each, the recordings were complete.

When Qin Ruoyao listened to the final versions, she nodded in satisfaction.

This was exactly the feeling she had wanted.

As for the remaining songs, she left them in Director Zhang’s capable hands.

With Director Su there to help, she wasn’t worried.

As long as the singers were professionals, the rest would go smoothly.

It was almost lunchtime, and she needed to return upstairs.

Director Zhang was equally pleased.

A problem that had troubled him for so long had been solved so effortlessly.

He was deeply grateful for Qin Ruoyao’s help.

After asking for her account details, he assured her that she would be properly compensated.

He even offered to treat her to a meal.

Qin Ruoyao politely declined.

She had already promised Mo Junlin that they would have lunch together.

At that moment, Director Li hurriedly asked, “Madam, what pen name would you like to use for these songs? And… have you ever considered joining the Composition Department?”

Qin Ruoyao thought for a moment.

“Let’s go with ‘Peach Blossoms in Full Bloom.’ As for work, I’ll pass. I don’t really know how to write songs.”

Director Li smiled wryly.

Of course she wouldn’t.

The president’s wife had no shortage of money.

Why would she want a job?

Still, he had to ask for his own peace of mind.

“However,” Qin Ruoyao added with a smile, “if you ever run into trouble, you’re welcome to ask me for help.”

After saying goodbye to everyone, she headed back up to the top floor.

Director Li watched her leave regretfully.

Turning his head, he noticed Director Su wore the same expression.

“What are you sighing about?”

Director Su clicked her tongue.

“Did you see how beautiful she is? With those looks, she’d be a huge star if she entered the entertainment industry. What a shame.”

Director Zhang, who had finished gathering his things, laughed.

“You two are dreaming.”

“Do you have any idea who she is? Why would she give up being a wealthy socialite for the little money your industries offer?”

He waved at them.

“Anyway, thanks for today. I’m heading out.”

“Wait a second.”

Director Li grabbed his arm.

“You benefited the most from all this. Aren’t you going to treat us to a meal?”

Director Su nodded.

“He should.”

Director Zhang was in such a good mood that he readily agreed.

“Fine. How about hot pot?”

Then he turned to Wang Yufei, Zhang Jingyun, and their manager.

“Why don’t you three join us?”

The three of them were overjoyed.

They quickly thanked Director Zhang for the opportunity.

Meanwhile, Qin Ruoyao returned to the top floor.

The office area was empty.

Everyone had probably gone to lunch.

She quietly opened the door to Mo Junlin’s office.

To her surprise, he was staring straight at her.

Startled, she immediately closed the door again as though she’d been caught doing something wrong.

Walking over to him, she asked ingratiatingly, “I’m back. Is it time for lunch?”

Mo Junlin pulled her onto his lap and lightly smacked her on the backside.

“So, what exactly were you doing? Why did you take so long?”

He could have easily found out himself.

But he wanted to hear it from her.

Caught off guard, Qin Ruoyao pouted and lightly hit his chest.

“Hmph! I was doing something nice for people, and you’re blaming me for it? Keep this up, and I won’t talk to you anymore.”

Mo Junlin buried his face against her chest and chuckled.

“Then please enlighten me, Madam. What good deed did you do?”

Breathing in her familiar scent, he felt his heart stir.

Just as Qin Ruoyao was about to answer, there was a knock at the door.

She immediately stood up from his lap.

Someone was here.

They had to maintain appearances.

Mo Junlin got up and opened the door.

Outside stood He Yang, both hands full of takeout containers.

Even knocking on the door had been difficult.

Fortunately, his boss had taken pity on him and opened it.

Mo Junlin graciously took some of the bags and set them on the meeting table.

Turning to Qin Ruoyao, he explained, “I had He Yang order lunch for us. Come and try it.”

He Yang smiled.

“That’s right, Sister-in-law. These are all signature dishes—you have to try them.”

As she sat down, Qin Ruoyao asked, “Have you eaten yet? If not, why don’t you join us?”

He Yang had no desire to become a third wheel.

Besides, there was someone beside him glaring at him.

He quickly shook his head.

“No need, Sister-in-law. I already have my own lunch. You and Senior can enjoy your meal. I still have work to do.”

With that, he wisely made a quick exit.

Mo Junlin sat down beside her and lifted the lids from the dishes.

A delicious aroma immediately filled the room.

Honey-glazed roast chicken, sweet-and-sour pork ribs, pineapple sweet-and-sour pork, braised lion’s head meatballs with dried bamboo shoots, and stir-fried seasonal vegetables.

The table was packed with food, enough to make anyone’s mouth water.
