Inside the car.
“Phone,” Lu Jinglin said, holding out his hand.
Xia Yuning tilted his head, looking somewhat puzzled.
Lu Jinglin explained, “Aren’t we supposed to exchange contact information?”
Xia Yuning handed over his phone and added, “The lock screen password is 1011.”
“You are just telling me like that? Is that really okay?” Lu Jinglin raised an eyebrow and asked.
Xia Yuning shook his head. “It is fine. We are already married, so we ought to know each other’s phone passwords. That is the most basic trust.”
Lu Jinglin let out a deep, low chuckle. “My phone doesn’t have a password. If you want to check my messages, feel free to do so anytime.”
Lu Jinglin’s smile was so charming that Xia Yuning couldn’t help rubbing his ear. “That is not what I meant. I didn’t mean that I wanted to check your phone. Um, I was just explaining.”
“I know.”
After entering his number and adding him on WeChat, Lu Jinglin handed the phone back. “Alright, take a look.”
Xia Yuning took the phone, opened it, and changed the contact name to Mr. Lu.
The Lu family old residence.
The old estate looked massive and extremely luxurious, though its interior remained a mystery.
The car slowly drove through the front gates, revealing a vast garden paved with paths made of cobblestone. It was early spring, and flowers were blooming on both sides of the paths, with a few flower buds occasionally hidden among them.
Farther ahead stood a towering, gigantic circular fountain. Water cascaded from the top tier, forming ring-shaped waterfalls. Sunlight poured down, reflecting off the flowing water curtain and casting dazzling spots of light. After driving around the fountain and making several turns, the car finally came to a stop in front of the courtyard, and Xia Yuning stepped out of the vehicle alongside Lu Jinglin.
“Yuning is here,” a middle-aged woman with exquisite features and a noble demeanor greeted them with a smile.
The woman welcomed them inside. “Why did you arrive so late? Lunch is already prepared.”
She was dressed in a sapphire-blue haute couture velvet long dress draped with a pure white shawl, her every gesture exuding elegance. Even though time had left its traces on her face, she remained graceful, gentle, and beautiful.
This person must be Lu Jinglin’s mother, Rong Feng.
Standing beside her was a middle-aged man with a stern aura. Having held a position of authority for many years, his presence carried a sense of majesty that made him look rather difficult to approach, but the corners of his mouth were curved upward slightly at the moment, softening his overall aura and making him much less serious.
This man must be Lu Jinglin’s father, Lu Qian.
Standing side by side with Lu Jinglin, Xia Yuning greeted them, “Good noon, Uncle, Auntie. The traffic was a bit jammed on the way here, which is why we arrived a little late.”
Rong Feng covered her mouth with a laugh. “Oh, you child, you’ve already registered your marriage with Jinglin, why are you still calling us so formally?”
Lu Qian chimed in warmly from the side, “Indeed, Yuning. It is time to change how you address us to Dad and Mom.”
Xia Yuning was slightly stunned, but then smiled and obediently called them Dad and Mom.
“Big brother is so pretty!” A toddler around three or four years old suddenly popped out from nowhere, hugging Xia Yuning’s lower leg and looking up at him with big, blinking eyes.
Oh no, Xia Yuning’s little heart was struck. Where did this little cutie come from?
This must be the child who had left candies in Lu Jinglin’s car.
“Yuanbao, you must not be impolite. Come here quickly,” Rong Feng beckoned to little Yuanbao.
Little Yuanbao pouted his chubby pink lips. “No way! Big brother is pretty, Yuanbao likes him a lot, Yuanbao wants to stay by pretty brother’s side.” With that, his little hands wrapped even tighter.
It was clear he genuinely liked Xia Yuning, clinging on and refusing to let go.
