Lukas gulped loudly. After all, who he was speaking with was none other than the leader of the biggest mafia gang in the city.
Automatically, that meant he was probably one of the biggest mafia leaders in the entire world.
He could not afford any slip-ups.
[You dare to call me and not speak?] the voice said, this time harsher, but still as calm and cold as when it first spoke.
"I’m sorry, sir," Lukas quickly said.
There was nothing he could do but bootlick in this situation. This was a man who was definitely above the apostle rank. Far above it, perhaps.
[You better make sense or I would kill you.]
This was no plain threat. Lukas could feel it. Even over the phone, it felt as if the man was standing just in front of him, like the distance between them was never a problem to begin with.
"I... I overheard a group was attempting to ambush your boys after your deal tomorrow," he said, stuttering all through. Of course, all of this was just an act Lukas put on to convince the man.
"Oh. Is that so?" The voice sounded amused. "How do you know this?"
’So direct and straight with his words,’ Lukas thought, his lips curling into a smile. ’That’s why it would be easier to deal with him.’
"I overheard them talking about it. I am a cleaner at Tencent’s office. And I stole your number from him too." Lukas replied, laying all his words bare.
The man on the other side paused. The silence was suffocating, forcing even Lukas to shiver slightly.
"I see," the man finally replied.
Lukas nodded.
"I feel like rewarding you for this."
"No, sir, I only did it out of goodwill," Lukas replied instantly.
He knew what it was about. The man was probably going to kill him for knowing the secret in the first place. ’There’s no way those evil mafia leaders would let anyone who has their secret live.’
A muffled laugh erupted from the other side, and for the moment, the mafia leader seemed to genuinely laugh. "Very well, I would let it pass since you have helped me now."
"Thank you," Lukas replied, with a slight bow.
"But if I hear the news from any other person."
The man did not say more after those words, with maniacal laughter, he hung up.
Lukas was still rooted in his seat, thinking of what had just happened.
"Huff!" he finally sighed, wiping a non-existent sweat from his forehead.
Without hesitation, he flung the phone out of his car and sped off.
"All I need to do is call Tencent at the time the deal would start."
That was what Lukas aimed for. Since he could not destroy Tencent, he would rather let someone else do it.
’Raymond has helped me big time with this,’ he mused.
Everything he had gotten was from a file Raymond placed on his desk.
The police were already on the White Tiger’s tail before then, so he was able to get the necessary information.
"If the police strike both parties tomorrow, wouldn’t it be a double win for me?"
Lukas had not thought this far before, but looking at it now, if Tencent was killed, there was a company and tons of wealth waiting.
If the mafia leader was killed, it meant Lukas would be able to get rid of the angel of death following him.
Lost in his own schemes, Lukas finally reached the association.
His face portrayed anger as he walked towards the entrance.
As the elevator’s doors chimed open, Lukas stood before Raymond.
Raymond raised a brow, looking away from the file to glance at Lukas. Then he continued scrolling.
"What is it?"
"My apartment had been collected from me," Lukas replied.
Raymond sighed. "I also heard about it. It seems the president’s daughter is interested in that house too."
These words made Lukas freeze. "Why would she get interested in it after I already portrayed my interest?"
Raymond did not reply, he continued rummaging through the pages as if Lukas had been settled already.
’I really hate his attitude.’
"I would compensate you by paying for a new apartment from my own pocket," Raymond said.
"So, I need to look for another apartment?"
"I already got you one, a shared apartment on the same Bellwood Street."
"I don’t want a shared apartment," Lukas said immediately, as though he was already expecting it.
Raymond glanced at him once again, then he looked up fully. "If you don’t want it, you can find one with your..."
"Fine, fine, I would take it," Lukas said before Raymond could complete his statement.
With a shrug, Raymond threw a card at Lukas.
"What’s this?" he asked as he caught it between his index and middle fingers.
The apartment’s access card," Raymond replied, returning to what he was doing.
"Also, I bought a new phone too, do you need my number?"
"I would get you when I need you," Raymond replied, not bothering to look away.
’I wonder how they are all able to get a person’s number whenever they want.’
"I will take my leave then."
Raymond waved languorously, as if the action had cost him all the strength he could muster.
’I really hate you.’
Lukas moved fast. Maybe due to the events that were about to occur the next day, or due to hunger.
He parked in front of the hotel, letting the Valet continue from there.
"Good evening, sir," the attendants said as they saw Lukas come in.
Lukas nodded. "Here, take some cash for yourself," he said, pulling out a stack of cash from his pocket to give them.
The receptionists stared at him in shock as they collected the money.
"Thank you, sir," they said.
Lukas nodded.
’I would be rich soon, anyways. Once Tencent dies and I take over, this amount would be meager to me.’
That was the plan.
Everything should have worked out.
’So, what the fuck is happening here?’
