"What? Why?" Lukas asked, pupils dilated as he stared at Andrew.

He didn’t understand how their relationship had suddenly shifted from Andrew trying his best to keep him to Andrew calling the deal off.

Andrew shook his head. "I can’t divulge any information to you, the order came from above."Full novel: Trickster God In Another World — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Lukas frowned, not speaking for a moment.

’From above?’ he wondered, thinking about who could have pulled such strings. ’It probably isn’t Tencent, he is only a local champion.’

Lukas thought about it again. ’That’s the only person I think I have a connection to,’ he mused.

But then, a smirk flashed across his lips. ’Well, I have someone high up too,’ he mused, already reaching towards his pocket to pick up his phone.

"Shit!" he cursed. "Fuck you, Bell. Genuinely, fuck you."

He gritted his teeth as he spoke.

Even Andrew could not help but flinch at the rage of this god.

Lukas looked away and nodded. "We would get back to you, trust me."

Andrew shook his head. "I don’t think so, sir," he replied. "But I enjoyed our short time together."

As he spoke, he gestured for Lukas to leave.

Lukas did not try to resist, he stepped out of the house, then the compound, till he was back on the serene street of Bellwood Street.

He looked at his sleek, black sports car parked in front of the building, then without hesitation, he stepped into it and drove off, the car humming softly as he moved.

Andrew’s eyes trailed the car till it disappeared on the horizon.

"I am sorry, sir," he muttered with a bow before walking into his own white car.

Inside his car, Lukas murmured to himself as he stopped before a large store.

[Techniverse]

That was the name of the store.

As he stepped in, he was met with a rather familiar face.

Well, familiar to just him...

"Mica," he said calmly as he approached.

The red-haired lady smiled as she saw Lukas approach her.

"Good afternoon, Mr Lukas," Mica said with a bow.

"My phone got stolen yesterday," Lukas groaned, slamming his palm on the table lazily.

Mica only sighed at the revelation. "I already guessed something like that was going to happen soon."

"Was that why you asked me to get an insurance immediately?"

To this question, Mica only nodded.

Lukas shrugged.

"So, a new phone?"

Mica nodded. "The upfront you paid can buy you a new phone with some extra money left."

Lukas waved it off. "Just give me a new phone."

"Immediately, sir," Mica said, walking further into the office.

Lukas stared at her as she left before he turned around. He looked through the building.

The building was quite narrow, with rows of chairs lining it from the entrance to the front of the counter.

Lukas stepped back before sitting in one of the chairs.

Mica stepped forward soon, carrying with her a slim box.

"Mr Lukas," she said as she slid it across the counter.

Lukas nodded and stood up from the chair.

"Can you get me a smaller phone too? Something very cheap, maybe only capable of making calls."

Mica frowned at the weird specification. Who used phones like that these days?

Those were the thoughts that hammered in her mind,

But she did not think too much about it. Since it was a customer’s order, all she needed to do was carry it out and avoid asking questions.

"We have about five of those, they are really old though, you might even have problems operating them."

Lukas nodded. "Just bring it."

Mica nodded and entered the storeroom again.

She brought a smaller box this time around.

"How much is it?" he asked, his lips arcing into a grin.

’What’s with his weird grin?’ Mica thought, flinching backward slightly.

Lukas noticed her reaction. ’Was that weird?’

"Ahem!" he feigned a cough. "How much is it?"

Mica’s attention returned to the place as the cough woke her. "It’s five thousand denvars," Mica replied. "Your change can pay for it."

Lukas nodded. "You can keep the rest of the change then."

As he spoke, he took both boxes from the table.

"Uhm! Your change is twenty-seven thousand," Mica said with raised brows.

Lukas waved it off, not bothering to look back as he stepped out of the glass doors.

Mica stared at him for only a moment before looking away. "What a weird man," she muttered before continuing with whatever she was doing before.

Lukas stepped into the car. Instinctively, the grin appeared on his face again.

He brought the phone out of its pack and switched it on.

Ten seconds. Then thirty. Then it moved to a full minute.

At this point, Lukas’s grin had already eased. He looked plainly into space. "An old phone indeed, even my divine appearance could not last long enough till it powered on."

He looked at the other box and brought his phone out.

It was a sleek navy blue one, the same model as the one he had bought before, just with a different color.

He tapped the screen twice, and a ding followed.

Within five seconds, the phone was powered on.

Lukas set it aside before zooming off. He had not driven for more than five minutes before the phone was finally put on.

"So much to get a single phone on," Lukas could not help but mutter as he pulled over.

He heaved, his chest rising fully before it dropped.

Then he opened the phone’s dial pad.

"Thankfully, since there is only one intercom company in this world, each phone is brought with an in-built SIM card."

As he spoke, his fingers moved across the dial pad, typing a number straight from his head.

Finally, the nine digits were complete.

"Hopefully, things go to plan," he thought, a heavy sigh escaping his lips once again.

Then he called.

For a moment, there was no response.

[Hello.]

The words came, cold and aloof, enough to make Lukas freeze even without seeing the person face to face.
