527: 【Host, your Repentance Value has increased by 5 points! It’s 98 now!】

As Su Qingyu closed his eyes, on the verge of “death,” he heard 527’s excited cry.

Xu Yunhan’s death had ultimately drained the last five points of Repentance Value from Ren Heming.Full novel: Underworld Scumbag Transformation System — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Su Qingyu was thoroughly satisfied.

This was his second experience with death and he found himself much calmer than before.

This time, no Black and White Impermanence came to guide him. When he opened his eyes, he found himself standing on a bridge where Yin and Yang met.

527 happily began reporting the results they had achieved in this world.

【Repentance Value: 98. Rating: Excellent! You have obtained a total of 132,300 merit points. That’s so much!】

Su Qingyu calculated the numbers in his head. His mission required him to complete ten worlds or accumulate one million merit points. If the two conditions were considered equivalent, each world would need to provide an average of one hundred thousand merit points.

However, the difficulty of each world varied. The simpler worlds at the beginning should naturally yield fewer merit points, while the more challenging worlds later on would provide greater rewards.

That meant obtaining 130,000 merit points from the first world was indeed an exceptionally high result.

The brightness of his mood gradually emerged from the lingering gloom of death and Su Qingyu felt considerably better.

Although 527 already knew what choice he would make, it still followed the procedure and asked him:

【Host, after completing this mission, you have seven days of rest. Please choose between the Underworld and the mortal realm.】

It dutifully explained the available options:

【If you choose the Underworld, you can move around most areas of Fengdu’s Underworld. However, many areas are unfriendly toward the souls of hosts, so you will need to spend merit points to stay at the Host Hotel.】

【If you choose the mortal realm, you can either lie inside your body, which is currently in the hospital, or wander around in the form of a ghost. You must not interfere with the normal order of the mortal world.】

Su Qingyu: 【The Underworld.】

Compared to finding out what had happened after his car accident in the real world, he was far more curious about what the Underworld looked like.

He had already experienced being half dead. If he didn’t take the opportunity to visit the Underworld at least once, it would be a waste.

The moment he finished speaking, he saw 527’s tail begin wagging excitedly.

【Yay!】

【The host chose the Underworld, which means I can stay by your side! I’ll take you around and show you Fengdu’s Underworld.】

527 pointed toward the direction ahead of Su Qingyu.

【Host, the other end of the bridge leads to the Road to the Yellow Springs. Just walk over there.】

Su Qingyu: 【…】

He had never imagined that one day, he would set foot on the Road to the Yellow Springs in such a casual and unceremonious manner.

Su Qingyu glanced in that direction. Yin energy permeated the surroundings, spreading so thickly that he could barely make out the road ahead.

He lifted his foot and walked toward it.

The instant his foot left the bridge and landed on the Road to the Yellow Springs, Su Qingyu sensed that something had changed.

He carefully focused on the sensation, then realized that 527’s figure was no longer present in his mind.

As though he had suddenly understood something, Su Qingyu lowered his head.

A small dog was standing in front of him, using its two tiny paws to remove a bull head mask from its own head.

The dog stood upright like a human, holding the bull head in its paws. Looking slightly shy, it said, “Host, I’m 527. I also have another name: Wangyue.”

Su Qingyu froze for a moment when he saw its appearance.

The little dog was far more appealing to him than he had imagined, carrying a familiar and comforting sense of closeness.

Perhaps all Shiba Inus were born with such likable faces and this one was even more adorable than an ordinary Shiba Inu.

527 was a little Shiba Inu. Even when Su Qingyu had seen its figure inside his mind, he had already felt that it couldn’t possibly be very big but now that it had come out and was standing in front of him, it was even smaller than he had imagined.

He had never raised a puppy before, so he didn’t have much of a reference for a puppy’s age or size. However, he could confidently say that 527 was less than a year old. It looked to be only a few months old.

“Wangyue? Why isn’t it Wangri?” Su Qingyu asked with a smile. “Isn’t there a saying about a heavenly dog watching the sun? Ah, no, it’s actually about a Sichuan dog barking at the sun.”

527: “???”

…..

527 hugged the bull head and continued walking forward in silence, its little head lowered as if it had decided to ignore him completely.

Su Qingyu followed behind it with a broad, amused smile.

“Who gave my system its name, anyway?”

527 didn’t answer him.

Su Qingyu continued, “My system might be a little small but it’s quite chubby. Its tail is short, too.”

527’s footsteps grew noticeably heavier.

Su Qingyu added another sentence, “It looks like it would feel really nice to pet.”

527’s footsteps came to a brief stop.

Then, still clutching its precious bull head, it continued walking forward.

“Scumbag!”

Su Qingyu laughed and bent down to pick it up.

“With those little short legs of yours, won’t my vacation be over by the time you finally make it to the Underworld?”

527: “…?”

It had just been about to curse him when it lifted its head and met Su Qingyu’s face.

In an instant, all the words died in its throat.

This was Su Qingyu’s real appearance. It was subtly different from the face he had possessed as Xu Yunhan. The difference was slight but even 527 couldn’t help losing its train of thought when it looked at him.

It seemed to understand a little why humans wanted to marry someone good looking.

Looking at a face like this, it was genuinely difficult to stay angry. It was practically a fire extinguisher.

The bull head that had been nestled in 527’s arms disappeared from its thoughts in an instant and it completely forgot about its earlier irritation. It leaned closer to Su Qingyu, wagging its tail as it spoke.

“Host, you’re about to enter the Underworld. Let me introduce you to Fengdu’s Underworld!”

Su Qingyu: “Okay.”

After they stepped onto the Road to the Yellow Springs, Su Qingyu realized that the scenery wasn’t nearly as dark and gloomy as it had appeared from the outside.

Although a faint layer of Yin energy lingered in the surroundings, the scenery around them remained clear enough to see.

Blue and purple flowers of the other shore bloomed on both sides of the road, their lush flowerbeds spreading into the distance. Among the dense blossoms, things resembling green fireflies flew through the air, their green points of light rising and falling in a faint, ghostly rhythm.

As they walked along the Road to the Yellow Springs, Su Qingyu spotted other people.

No, it would be more accurate to call them ghosts.

There were also some beings like him, existing in a state that was neither fully alive nor completely dead.

527 shrank closer into his arms and spoke in an extremely soft voice.

“Host, do you see those two people ahead? One is an Impermanence and the other is the ghost he’s about to escort.”

Su Qingyu had already noticed them.

The figure walking ahead was an Impermanence dressed in black, although it wasn’t the same Black Impermanence he had encountered before.

The ghost being led by the Impermanence was missing a head.

Su Qingyu had known for a long time that 527 was afraid of the Impermanences. He reached out and gently stroked the dog’s head before speaking in an equally quiet voice.

“I died in a car accident, so my body should probably not be completely intact either yet my soul is perfectly fine. I thought all ghosts were supposed to remain in a complete state.”

527 narrowed its eyes slightly and answered in a low voice.

“The host is different from them. In the beginning, they retain the state they were in before death. Once they fully accept that they’ve died, their bodies will grow back and recover.”

“There are also some evil ghosts with deep attachments and resentment clinging to them. They will remain in an abnormal state indefinitely.”

Su Qingyu nodded.

“Are there a lot of Impermanences in the Impermanence Hall?”

“Mm!”

Starting with the Impermanence they had just encountered, 527 began introducing Su Qingyu to Fengdu’s Underworld.

“Fengdu’s Underworld mainly has four major administrative institutions: the Impermanence Hall, the Bull Head and Horse Face Clan, the Judge’s Court and the Ghost King Prison.”

“The Impermanence Hall is the only department in Fengdu’s Underworld that maintains a direct connection between the Yin and Yang realms. There are a million Impermanences under the Impermanence Hall. They frequently travel between Fengdu’s Underworld and the mortal realms of various worlds, bringing the souls of the dead to the Underworld, as well as capturing evil ghosts that commit crimes in the human world and escorting them there.”

This matched the legends Su Qingyu had heard.

The only difference was that the legends he had grown up hearing described the Impermanences of the Underworld coming to their world to escort souls after death. After all, in their understanding, there had only ever been one world.

But this Fengdu system was connected to countless different worlds.

527 continued explaining.

“Since they often have to capture extremely terrifying evil ghosts, the Impermanence Hall is the military powerhouse of the Underworld. Every Impermanence working there possesses heavy Yin Sha energy, uses ruthless methods and is incredibly frightening. Host, we should stay as far away from them as possible.”

“I heard that one host once offended an Impermanence and was whipped until his soul scattered completely. The Bull Head and Horse Face Clan issued a written condemnation, demanding that the Impermanence Hall apologize but the Impermanence Hall ignored them and nothing came of the incident afterward.”

Su Qingyu: “…”

Perhaps the two Impermanences who had come to escort him were relatively gentle. He hadn’t personally experienced anything that made him feel they were particularly terrifying.

527 continued its introduction.

“After the Impermanences of the Impermanence Hall bring ghosts from the mortal realms of different worlds to the Underworld, they hand them over to the Bull Head and Horse Face Clan. The Bull Head and Horse Face Clan assigns each ghost a number and files their records, organizing the good and evil deeds they committed during their lifetime so that the Judge’s Court can conveniently pass judgment on them.”

“After the Judge’s Court conducts its trial, it issues a Judgment of the Underworld.”

“According to the judgment, those who can reincarnate directly are assigned a world by the Bull Head and Horse Face Clan and escorted to different reincarnation paths. Those who need to work in the Underworld to atone for their sins before they can reincarnate are assigned jobs by the Bull Head and Horse Face Clan, allowing them to earn merit points. Only after accumulating enough merit points can they reincarnate. As for those whose sins are particularly grave, the Ghost King Prison takes them away to receive punishment, where they endure the suffering of the Avici Hell.”

“The Ghost King Prison is the place all ghosts least want to approach. Besides ordinary ghosts who committed wrongdoings during their lifetimes and need to be punished, countless evil ghosts are imprisoned there as well. They are tormented by punishments day and night, their continuous screams echoing through the prison and making the other ghosts’ skin crawl.”

527 explained everything clearly and Su Qingyu gained a basic understanding of the structure of Fengdu’s Underworld.

It was more or less consistent with the legends yet there were also some differences.

This Fengdu Underworld connected countless worlds through a more modern system. Each major institution had its own responsibilities and everything operated in an orderly manner.

There were also more detailed divisions. For example, the Residence of Meng Po fell within the jurisdiction of the Bull Head and Horse Face Office. There were also supervisory systems overseeing several of the institutions.

Whenever 527 thought of something, it explained it to Su Qingyu, moving from one detail to another as they continued their journey.

The two were speaking quietly when they suddenly heard someone call out a name.

“527!”

Su Qingyu could immediately sense 527’s body stiffening the moment it heard the voice.

He turned his head and saw that the one who had spoken appeared to be a fox. The fox was following behind a man who looked to be around the same age as him.

When the man caught sight of Su Qingyu’s face, he paused in surprise.

“You’re a task taker too, Host?”

Su Qingyu nodded.

It seemed he had encountered someone from the same line of work.

The fox also looked Su Qingyu over for a while. Then, with a flick of its tail, it raised its chin and spoke in a smug tone.

“527, I didn’t expect you to actually bring your host back. I thought you wouldn’t even be able to complete a single world.”

“You really are quite lucky, it seems.” The fox glanced at Su Qingyu once more. “That face of yours must be pretty useful, huh?”

527 was already fuming and about to say something when its host spoke first.

“Usually, the people who say things like that are the ones who look ugly.”

527: “…”

The expressions on both the fox’s and its master’s faces immediately turned unpleasant.

Su Qingyu looked straight at the man.

“Didn’t you ever teach your fox that when you hit a dog, you should consider who its owner is?”

The man himself was actually quite good looking but in front of Su Qingyu, he could only be considered ordinary.

He stared at Su Qingyu for several seconds before smiling.

“Sorry. 13427 has always been rather straightforward but it’s very intelligent and has helped me a great deal. I don’t think I’m qualified to teach it.”

Hearing the hidden meaning in his words, Su Qingyu raised an eyebrow.

“Who would’ve thought that someone like you, doing missions alone, would still have to rely on a fox.”

“…”

Su Qingyu lowered his head and looked at the fox, which was glaring at him.

“This fox must have it pretty hard, doesn’t it? It has the face of something born to work itself to death.”

“Unlike our 527.”

He pinched 527’s soft nape gently.

“It only needs to sit back and watch things comfortably.”

“…”

The man probably hadn’t expected someone who had only just arrived in the Underworld to be so unafraid of causing trouble. Su Qingyu had cornered him repeatedly, leaving him unable to come up with a response.

All the frustration he had accumulated from the mission world had been sitting in his stomach with nowhere to go and now, even a newcomer had to come along and make him angry?

He gritted his teeth, then spoke with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

“As the difficulty of the worlds increases, the system and host need to cooperate with each other to clear them. Take the fifth world I just completed, for example. You can’t get through something like that by fighting alone. By the way, which world is this for you?”

Su Qingyu lifted his foot and continued walking forward.

“I don’t think the two of you cooperate very well, either. From what your fox said just now, even I could tell that it already knew this was 527’s first world.”

“…”

527 covered its mouth, its heart filled with both satisfaction and delight.

Back when it was in the Underworld’s administrative district, this stinking fox had bullied it more than once but 527 was small and it wasn’t particularly good with words. Even when it was bullied, it couldn’t come up with anything to say in return. All it could do was lower its head and silently suffer in grievance.

It had never expected that today, the fox would end up being so thoroughly angered by its host that even its owner’s face had turned dark.

527’s eyes, bubbling with happiness, swept toward 13427’s gloomy fox face.

13427 asked, “527, how much Repentance Value did you obtain in your first world?”

527 poked its head out, its eyes shining brightly.

“98!”

“What?!”

The man and his system both turned toward them in shock.

The man stumbled over his words.

“Y…. You’re lying, right?”

Worried that its host, who was maintaining such a calm expression, wouldn’t understand why the two of them were so shocked, 527 explained to him through their mental connection.

【Host, according to statistics, fewer than one in a thousand people who complete their first world with a Repentance Value exceeding 90 and receive an Excellent rating manage to achieve that result.】

Su Qingyu, however, wasn’t particularly surprised.

The first world really hadn’t been as difficult as he had expected but if he hadn’t discovered the hidden method of obtaining Repentance Value in that first world and had only focused on making the scumbag repent, he genuinely wouldn’t have been able to obtain such a high score.

At the very least, he wouldn’t have been able to obtain the portion of Repentance Value that came from the client.

Looking at the man’s shocked and ugly expression, Su Qingyu’s mood improved considerably.

As for the fox, the fur covering its entire body suddenly stood on end.

At first, Su Qingyu thought it had become so agitated out of anger but he quickly noticed that the fur on 527, which he was holding beneath his hand, had also risen strand by strand.

Then, 527 disappeared.

Su Qingyu turned his head and saw a familiar Impermanence.

It was the White Impermanence who had come to guide him when he died.

However, unlike the clean and immaculate appearance he had possessed when they first met, his white clothes were now stained with blood, along with something black that Su Qingyu couldn’t identify.

A rope wrapped in thick, swirling black mist was wound around his long fingers. At the other end of the rope was a… thing that should have been an evil ghost.

The evil ghost was tightly bound in layers of rope. Through the narrow gaps between the bindings, more than one pair of bloodshot, childlike eyes could be seen peering out.

There was also a smear of blood on the White Impermanence’s face, stretching across the corner of his eye and making his otherwise quiet gaze appear somewhat cold and sinister.

As he slowly approached through the Yin energy, the fox disappeared as well.

Only the other host remained, his entire body stiffening.

Su Qingyu, however, found himself momentarily distracted by the White Impermanence’s eyes.

“Have we met somewhere before?”

527: 【…】

The White Impermanence had already walked over.

“If nothing unexpected happened, it was when you died.”

Su Qingyu: “…”

He smiled.

“Long time no see.”

Just like when they had first met, the White Impermanence wasn’t a talkative ghost. He simply said to him:

“Congratulations.”

He was probably congratulating Su Qingyu on successfully completing his first mission.

Su Qingyu replied, “Thank you.”

When the White Impermanence approached, he shifted the rope into his right hand and walked on Su Qingyu’s right side.

Su Qingyu glanced curiously at the ghost separated from him by the White Impermanence.

“Is that an evil ghost?”

The White Impermanence nodded.

“An evil ghost that specifically eats the eyes of young children.”

Su Qingyu looked at the White Impermanence again.

“Was it difficult to deal with?”

“Not particularly.”

As the White Impermanence spoke, his footsteps seemed to pause ever so slightly.

Su Qingyu suspected that he might be a ghost who cared a great deal about cleanliness. Having his clothes and body stained like this probably made him uncomfortable, especially when someone was looking at him.

So Su Qingyu shifted his gaze away.

For some reason, the hypocritical and self satisfied host from earlier hadn’t followed them.

That was just as well.

On this Road to the Yellow Springs, Su Qingyu would much rather walk alongside the White Impermanence than accompany someone who spoke with such veiled hostility.

Su Qingyu could tell that the host and both systems were extremely afraid of the White Impermanence.

Yet walking beside him, Su Qingyu himself felt entirely relaxed.

He even felt at ease on the Road to the Yellow Springs.

The two of them continued walking forward in silence.

They didn’t have much to say to each other but there was no awkwardness between them. The atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful, with a quiet sense of comfort settling between their steps.

A faint layer of Yin energy drifted along the road. The blue and purple flowers of the other shore growing beside it appeared somewhat melancholy beneath the haze yet their branches possessed a delicate, supple quality, swaying gently in the surrounding darkness.

As Su Qingyu watched them, he suddenly thought of Xu Yunhan.

He remembered the way Jiang Huiyin had described him.

Melancholic and soft.

Su Qingyu pinched the bridge of his nose.

When he raised his head again, he saw a towering structure rising before him, so tall that its top disappeared beyond his line of sight.

Without realizing it, they had already arrived at Fengdu’s Underworld.

The road had been much shorter than he had imagined.

The number of ghostly figures, which resembled humans, gradually increased around them. Su Qingyu hadn’t even had time to properly take in the scenery of the Underworld when they passed through the gates of Fengdu’s Underworld.

A group of ghost officers immediately came out to meet them.

They were heading straight toward the White Impermanence.

The ghost officers took the rope from his hands.

The familiar Black Impermanence approached from behind them. His eyes widened in shock as he looked at the White Impermanence.

“You managed to capture it and bring it back in such a short amount of time?!”

He then turned his attention to Su Qingyu and narrowed his eyes into a smile.

“Congratulations! How much Repentance Value did you get in your first world?”

Su Qingyu: “98.”

The Black Impermanence clicked his tongue. He glanced at the dirt and bloodstains on the White Impermanence’s clothes, then pointed toward the towering building whose top was impossible to see.

“That over there is the Impermanence Hall. Come visit us when you’re free!”

Su Qingyu knew they still had work to do, so he said, “Go on and take care of your business. I’ll look around on my own.”

The White Impermanence turned to him.

“Goodbye.”

After giving Su Qingyu one final glance, he left together with the Black Impermanence.

Once the few Impermanences had departed, 527 popped out again. The moment its little paws touched the ground, it turned toward Su Qingyu and spoke.

“Host, you absolutely must not make any more scumbag remarks in front of the Impermanences!”

Su Qingyu: “…”

“When did I ever make a scumbag remark?”

527 immediately retorted, “Isn’t ‘Have we met somewhere before?’ one of the most commonly used pickup lines in the scumbag handbook?”

Su Qingyu was rendered completely speechless.

527 leaned closer and lowered its voice to an almost inaudible whisper.

“Host, that White Impermanence just now is the one I told you about. He’s the Impermanence who whipped a host into complete soul destruction. He’s the Chief White Impermanence, the most terrifying Impermanence in the entire Impermanence Hall!”

Su Qingyu froze for a moment.

He bent down, picked 527 up from the ground and glanced back in the direction the White Impermanence had left.

527 leaned close to his ear and whispered urgently.

“He’s the Impermanence that makes all the evil ghosts tremble in fear! More than half of the most terrifying evil ghosts imprisoned in the Ghost King Prison were captured by him. Even the most frightening evil ghosts in existence can be beaten down and sent to the Eighteenth Level of Hell by him. What does one host count for? He wouldn’t even need to use his whip! Host, you absolutely have to be careful around him!”

“Does he have a name?” Su Qingyu asked after listening to all of that.

“Of course he does!” 527 replied. “His name is Bo Yunyi. He’s one of the Ten Great Yin Marshals recorded in Fengdu’s Yin Register.”

Just then, Bo Yunyi turned his head and glanced back.

The blood on his face had already disappeared. His side profile was clean and refined, his features strikingly clear beneath the lingering Yin energy.

When his eyes met Su Qingyu’s, he paused for a few seconds.

Then he gave Su Qingyu a slight nod before continuing toward the Impermanence Hall, which was shrouded in dense Yin energy, alongside the other Impermanences.

527 spoke with utmost seriousness.

“Host, did you hear what I just said? Stay far away from them!”

Su Qingyu withdrew his gaze.

“I heard you. I’ll remember your teachings, System.”

Holding 527 in his arms, he walked a few more steps into the Underworld.

The number of ghostly figures around them continued to increase and the lively bustle of Fengdu’s Underworld gradually unfolded before his eyes.

The main entrance to Fengdu’s Underworld faced a massive square. Ghosts came and went in every direction, creating a scene of remarkable activity and commotion.

The place looked surprisingly similar to a city in the mortal realm.

There were markets, cars and towering buildings. Some of the high rises even displayed advertisements on enormous projection screens.

“By the banks of the Nether River, right beside the Ghost King Prison! Qingming Residential Complex is now on sale! Heavy Yin energy, ominous surroundings and a down payment of only one hundred thousand merit points! Miss this opportunity and your eighteen generations of ancestors will regret it! Really, aren’t you going to buy a unit?”

“Incense Yin Incense! Guaranteed fresh incense offerings delivered straight from the mortal realm on the very first day! Secretly prepared by a master, authentic and genuine! No counterfeits!”

Su Qingyu: “…”

Apart from these small advertising screens, he noticed a massive display screen standing in the center of the square.

One name after another flowed across it, while different human faces flashed into view.

527 explained, “That’s the Death Forecast Screen. Everyone displayed on it is someone who will die tomorrow.”

Su Qingyu: “…”

He stared at the enormous screen for a moment before turning to 527.

“Where are we going now?”

527 answered, “We’re going back to our headquarters, the Bull Head and Horse Face Office District. There’s a Host Hotel there and that’s where you’ll stay during your rest period in the Underworld.”

Su Qingyu nodded.

He had already heard 527 explain that the Bull Head and Horse Face Clan managed the Fengdu System. At this point, he should technically be considered an unofficial member of their organization.

Each of the four major institutions had its own headquarters.

The Bull Head and Horse Face Office District was the area managed and occupied by the Bull Head and Horse Face Clan and its territory was enormous.

Following 527’s directions, Su Qingyu first obtained an Underworld public transportation card and then took a bus there.

527 continued carrying the bull head the entire time.

Su Qingyu had initially assumed that everyone belonging to the Bull Head and Horse Face Clan would have the appearance of either a bull head or a horse face.

However, that wasn’t the case at all.

Most of the passengers inside the bus looked like ordinary humans. Only occasionally would a horse faced figure appear through the Yin filled bus windows, its bluish green face giving the vehicle a distinctly Underworld like atmosphere.

527 first took him to the Host Hotel.

The Yin Sha energy in Fengdu’s Underworld was extremely dense and hosts couldn’t withstand prolonged exposure to it. The Host Hotel was specifically designed for hosts to stay in temporarily and rest between missions, with an environment that was considerably more suitable for them.

There were no service staff at the hotel.

Everything was fully automated.

The screen displayed which buildings and rooms were available. A host only needed to select an empty room and enter their system number to complete the check in process.

As Su Qingyu entered “527” into the system, he asked, “Are system numbers assigned according to the order in which systems join? If you’re only number 527, how did you end up getting bullied by a system with a number over ten thousand?”

He was referring to the fox they had encountered on the Road to the Yellow Springs.

527 shook its head.

“13427 joined the Fengdu System much earlier than I did. The numbers should be assigned randomly, I think?”

Su Qingyu looked doubtful.

“Random assignment seems a little strange. Arranging the numbers according to joining order would make centralized management much more convenient.”

527 looked confused.

“Some of them seem to be numbered according to joining order.”

Su Qingyu fell into thought.

He stood in front of the input terminal, mentally sorting through all the strange details he had encountered along the way.

Before he could finish organizing his thoughts, a voice interrupted him.

“Hello. Building A, Room 4444. Seven days. Total cost: 14,000 merit points. Payment has been completed.”

Su Qingyu: “…”

The hosts standing behind him looked at Su Qingyu with the kind of reverence usually reserved for a powerful big shot.

527 nearly fainted on the spot.

As they walked toward the room, 527 kept talking nonstop.

“Host, why did you choose such an expensive room? This is a presidential suite! One tenth of the merit points you earned from an entire world is gone just like that!”

Su Qingyu replied calmly, “I only picked a top floor room that looked pleasing to me. Who would’ve known it would cost so much?”

527 paused.

“Then the host’s aesthetic preferences are surprisingly compatible with the Underworld.”

Su Qingyu: “…”

Fengdu’s Underworld had already robbed him of 14,000 merit points in one swift transaction. There was no point complaining about it any further.

“Since things have already turned out this way, I might as well enjoy it properly.”

The impoverished 527 hugged the bull head tightly.

“For these seven days, we should stay in the room every single day. Not a single second can be wasted!”

The room itself wasn’t actually any better than the hotel rooms Su Qingyu had stayed in while living in the mortal realm.

The only feature worth mentioning was that it offered a panoramic view of nearly half of the Underworld, where layers of dark clouds and misty Yin energy drifted across the landscape.

One person and one system sat in front of the floor to ceiling window and watched the scenery for a long while.

The view was breathtaking and novel at first glance.

But after staring at it for too long, Su Qingyu gradually began to feel that it really wasn’t worth spending so many merit points on.

The human and the system looked at each other.

“…”

527 let out a very human like sigh, then stood up and placed the bull head on the sofa.

“Host, didn’t you want to see Xu Yunhan? He should be getting off work soon. I’ll take you to find him.”

That was exactly what Su Qingyu had been hoping for.

On their way to find Xu Yunhan, Su Qingyu suddenly asked 527, “How much merit does Xu Yunhan earn per month working in the Underworld?”

Merit was one of the currencies circulating within the Fengdu System. When the ghosts who issued commissions asked the system and its hosts to help them eliminate their lingering attachments and reform scumbags, the payment they offered was also made in merit points.

Su Qingyu was rather curious about how long they had to work in the Underworld before they could earn enough to obtain such an opportunity.

527 explained, “The salaries in Fengdu’s Underworld are confidential. The only thing we know is that the average salary across the entire Underworld is three thousand merit points a month. However, that average includes the ghost officers in the Impermanence Hall, who receive enormous salaries. Ordinary ghosts don’t earn three thousand and Xu Yunhan probably doesn’t either.”

That meant he would only earn around thirty thousand merit points in a year, not even counting the portion that went to the Underworld System.

Su Qingyu, on the other hand, had already obtained 130,000 merit points.

Although he didn’t know how the merit points were divided between the Underworld and its hosts, one thing was certain.

For an opportunity like this, Xu Yunhan would have to remain trapped in the Underworld and work for a very, very long time.

When they finally found Xu Yunhan, he hadn’t finished his shift yet.

From a distance, Su Qingyu spotted the person he had portrayed during the final stage of his life.
