"Logan...?" Rowena called out with a shocked look on her face.

The katana she was holding instantly slipped from her fingers and it clattered against the concrete floor.

In fact, she stood still and frozen by the realisation that her son was currently seeing her as a killer and assassin.Full novel: Urban Elf System — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

But then she immediately blinked the moment she noticed him walking closer to her.

"Logan, son. What are you...!? No, stop. Don't come any closer. It's not what it looks like." Rowena tried to come up with a reasonable and believable excuse to explain what had happened but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't think of anything right now.

Meanwhile, Logan kept walking closer to her till he wrapped his arms around her, and this caught Rowena by surprise.

"It's alright, Mom. I understand."

Those words were like magic that instantly struck against her heart, making her feel really emotional as she hugged him back in return.

The thought of losing him had been so scary and it had made her feel uncomfortable for hours, knowing that those who had tried to kill her son were still out there living their lives as though they hadn't tried to take away someone so precious to her.

However, to suddenly hear her son's understanding words made her feel even more emotional right now.

For years, she's been building a very specific image in front of her son.

She had always wanted Logan to see her as a serious and hardworking businesswoman dedicated to her job.

Yes, it had made them distant, but at least it made her feel relaxed knowing that her son didn't know anything about this dark secret of hers.

But now he knows and Rowena couldn't help but wonder... how?

"Logan, dear, you weren't supposed to be here. How did you know I was here? Did Odette...?" Rowena's gaze instantly snapped toward Odette standing close to the main entrance, but Logan's voice instantly pulled her attention back to him.

"No, Mom. It wasn't Odette's fault. I practically forced her to tell me where you were. So if you want to blame anyone, blame me."

Logan pulled back to have a look at his mother's face, but Rowena pulled his head and face back to her chest because she didn't want her son to see the bloodstains on her face.

"It's fine, dear. Let's go home."

And so, the trio made their way back to the car.

On the drive back home, Rowena made a call to a group of cleaners she kept as retainers for nights like this and she sent the address of the warehouse to them.

Their job was to get rid of the evidence, making it seem like no one had entered the warehouse that night.

Later on, they arrived back home and right now, Logan could be seen sitting in a large bathtub with his mother.

The room was filled with thick steam in the air, so neither of them could see their bodies.

However, Logan could certainly feel a pair of soft marshmallows pressed against his back.

"Logan?"

"Yeah?"

"I did some terrible things today and I shouldn't have let you see that. I won't even be surprised if you're scared to even look at your own mother."

"No, I'm not and why should I be? You're my mother, and I already told you, I understand why you did it."

"Are you really not scared?"

"I'm not, mom. I trust you."

Hearing his words, Rowena instantly smiled before hugging him even more.

Then she planted a kiss on his cheek. "I love you too, dear."

"I didn't say anything about love, Mom."

"Then what did you say?"

"I said I trusted you." Logan turned his head slightly.

"So you don't love me?"

"Of course, I do. If I don't, who else would?"

"Oh, is that so?"

"Yep, this young elf loves his mom the most cause she's the best."

Rowena smiled and playfully pinched his cheek. "Oh my, when did my baby become so cheeky?"

She playfully pinched his cheek even more and the two of them laughed as the tension that had been sitting in Rowena's chest all night finally began to loosen.

Moving on, time passed and the two were finally done bathing.

Now, they were getting dressed for bed after eating dinner and the two of them sat together on the edge of the mattress.

"Mom?"

"What is it, dear?"

"I was thinking. Could you teach me how to fight with a sword?"

"Why would you want to learn that?"

Logan shrugged indifferently before replying. "I don't know. For self-defense, maybe. I just feel like if I know the basics, I might be able to protect myself someday."

Rowena pondered about what he had said before giving him a response.

"I'll think about it, dear."

However, Logan wasn't satisfied with that answer at all, so he scooted closer to Rowena before linking his arms with hers.

Then he rested his head against her shoulder.

"I don't know why, Mom, but I feel like you're trying to stall until I forget I ever asked."

"This is a delicate request, Logan, so I need to be certain if I'll be making the right choice or not."

"Oh, come on, Mom. Please?" Logan looked up at his mother with the widest and most pathetic puppy-dog eyes he had ever made.

Luckily for him, his mom found him extremely cute, so she melted instantly and gave in to what her son wanted.

"Alright, fine. You're allowed to learn how to protect yourself. But you'll have to convince Odette to teach you first. So, if she agrees to teach you everything she knows, then I'll consider doing the same."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

Recalling the number of bodies on the floor, which were over fifty in total, Logan was certain his mother must be extremely skilled in using a sword.

In fact, she might even be really good at close combat fighting, and since she wanted Odette to train him as well, then it must mean Odette must be equally as outstanding as his mother.

So if those two were to teach him everything they know, he was bound to be as skilled as them or possibly even better than them as well.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mom! You're the best!" Logan swiftly kissed her cheek, and Rowena smiled warmly.
