The next day, Ren had something he wanted to test and came to the edge of the forest early in the morning.

He walked to a spot unlikely to be seen by others and raised his bow toward the grass.

He had brought the bow and quiver inside the small box and taken them out just before reaching the forest.Full novel: Useless Skill “Small Box” ~Even in Another World, You Can Survive With Just a Four-and-a-Half Tatami Mat Room~ — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Yesterday it suddenly jumped at me and I got surprised… but today, if I’m ready from the start, I should be fine…”

He intended to face the horn rabbit head-on. If he stayed prepared from the beginning, he wouldn’t panic.

Listening to the wind, he held his bow steady and waited. Time passed quietly.

Whoosh…

The wind brushed through his bangs. No horn rabbit appeared.

“Could it be… it’s scared of me and not coming out?”

As he thought that while keeping his bow drawn, distant voices reached his ears. It seemed other adventurers were approaching.

Rustle.

In that moment of distraction, a sound came from behind him, brushing through the grass as if aiming for him.

Startled, he turned around.

A horn rabbit was charging toward him with a ferocious expression.

“Wah!”

“Gyah!”

He fired an arrow instinctively. It seemed to pierce the rabbit’s right ear. The horn rabbit was knocked sideways, crashing into the grass.

“Ah… uh…”

Panicking, he grabbed the knife at his waist, but his fingers trembled and he dropped it.

He had planned to use the knife as a follow-up if the arrow didn’t finish the job—but when the moment came, panic overtook him.

Rustle rustle.

Seeing the horn rabbit start moving again, he quickly grabbed the knife properly.

He cautiously approached the thrashing creature.

“Gyee!”

“Wah!”

The injured horn rabbit growled at him, forcing Ren to step back instinctively.

He looked down at the knife.

It felt too short to safely approach the struggling beast.

“No way… I need something longer… something longer…”

As he imagined a longer weapon, a long rectangular small box containing the quiver appeared.

“Not the quiver… but… well, it’s long…”

He shook the box, pulled out the quiver, and then swung the long rectangular box down toward the struggling horn rabbit.

“Gyaaah!”

“…Huh?”

He had intended to strike it, but instead the horn rabbit ended up inside the box.

The beast was now trapped within the narrow rectangular space, thrashing violently.

“Wah! Wh-what’s this…? What do I do…?”

The horn rabbit struggled desperately to escape, but the box held it like a prison with no exit.

“That’s it! If I just… remove the oxygen… then…”

“…Oxygen?”

He vaguely understood the word, though it felt unfamiliar and strange. Still, he concluded that if the rabbit couldn’t breathe, it would stop moving.

“Can I block air from coming in?”

When he focused his thoughts, the box had already been responding—changing shape, glowing, and storing objects. Blocking air from the outside seemed possible.

“Block air from coming in…”

And then another thought occurred to him.

“Maybe I can remove the oxygen inside too?”

“Don’t let air in—”

As he concentrated, the surface of the rectangular box shimmered briefly.

A few seconds later, the horn rabbit inside began thrashing violently. The transparent walls of the box were smeared with blood. The arrow that had pierced its ear was still lodged inside, and blood continued to flow from the wound.

No matter how much it struggled, the horn rabbit couldn’t break through the box’s transparent walls.

Gradually, its movements weakened.

And eventually, it stopped moving.
