I saw Marty walking toward the car with muffled steps.
It seemed like his feet barely touched the ground.
The man standing next to the car in bloody clothes is staring at Marty.
Marty reached for the car.
Lydia spoke with a quiet tone.
“Be careful.”
Marty looked at her.
He nodded his head.
Marty reached out to the man in the car, who was also covered with blood.
Suddenly, the man opened his eyes and spoke.
“Boo.” His voice was excessive.
The color drained out of Marty’s face.
Marty flinched and fell to the ground.
He looked at them with an angry face.
Marty stood up and shouted.
“Put them with their best friend.” His voice was a mixture of anger and resentment.
Dorian was standing at a distance from Marty.
He burst into laughter.
“Hmm…
so now you do not think it is just a prank,” Dorian said.
I sensed sarcasm in his voice.
I stepped out of the police station and started observing them.
“Shut up,” Marty snapped, clearly angry.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me to the jail cell, locked me inside, and then walked away.
I sat on the floor with my back against the wall.
A while later, I was observing the police station.
I was looking around.
There are cracks in the wooden floor.
It looks like an old structure that needs repair.
One small window on the right side of the wall opens outside.
I looked out the window.
I saw the half-moon, which was sparkling in the sky.
The stars are also up around the moon.
I took a deep breath.
“You are so beautiful, but I do not know if you can cause that many problems in some people’s lives.” A low rumble came out of my mouth.
“I heard people compare you with their beloved, but when I see you, it reminds me of the destruction you caused in my life.”
I silently lowered my gaze while bowing my head.
I drew a long breath.
Meanwhile, Max, who is in another cell, is listening to the conversation.
He came up to the iron bars.
He stood leaning against the iron bars.
He crossed his arms over his chest.
“Hey, who are you talking to?” Max said.
His voice was firm.
“If you are feeling alone, I am here.
You can talk to me.
So where did you come from?”
I remained silent.
I gave him the silent treatment.
My shoulder slumped with a heavy burden of my sadness pressing me down.
In the meantime, Max heard a voice that was coming from outside the police station.
The voices get louder as the two women enter the police station.
Max yelled.
There was urgency in her voice.
“Helen, what are you doing here?” The woman, who is in her early forties, looked at Max.
It seemed like from her face she was not in a pleasant mood.
Her eyes flashed dangerously; a spark of anger ignited in their depths.
“Not now, Max. Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.
I am here to help you, so just stay quiet.
Let me take care of this,” Halen says, her voice shaking with anger.
She turned her face toward Lydia sitting on the chair.
Lydia was reading the files and did not look at her.
Halen dropped the purse onto the table.
Lydia did not move a muscle.
It seemed like Lydia was ignoring Halen.
Things were getting interesting again since everyone in this town is pretty temperamental.
“Hey, Lydia, I am trying to talk to you,” Halen said.
Her voice was steady.
Lydia closed the file and shifted her gaze from the table to Halen’s face.
“So, talk to me with your mouth.
“Do not drop things on the table,” Lydia said.
Her voice was unwavering.
“Fine, whatever, I would like to ask you what my son is doing behind the bar.
You know I am sick of it.
Every time something terrible happens in this town, my child ends up here.
I do not like how this town treats my son.
“It is cruel,” Helen said.
Her voice was laced with anger and sadness.
“Are you finished?” Lydia asked as she stood up.
She walked around the table and reached out to Helen, who was on the other side.
Lydia stood in front of Helen and looked into her eyes for a moment before glancing over at the jail cell where Max was being held.
Lydia placed her hands on her waist.
Lydia scoffed.
“Fine, I am letting him go this time, but it is the only time I am doing it.
You must talk to him because he is not a little kid anymore.
You also know that he is not a saint either,” Lydia said.
I felt sarcasm in her voice.
Halen glanced at her.
She extended both her hands and shook Lydia’s hand.
A smile crept on Halen’s face.
“Thank you, thank you.
“You are a genuinely nice person.” I sensed the change in Helen’s tone.
Her voice was soft now.
Lydia shook her head in frustration.
“I warned you.” Her voice dropped to a near-inaudible level.
Afterward, Lydia walked to the jail cell and unlocked the door.
“You are free to go,” Lydia said.
She spoke with a quiet, resonant tone.
Max stepped out of the jail cell.
Lydia suddenly clutched Max by his shirt.
“I am letting you go because she is my best friend.
I am doing it at her request.
I just want you to keep in mind that this is the last time I am doing her a favor.
You do understand what I am saying.” Lydia said while gritting her teeth.
Max did not say anything, just grabbed her hand and forced her to let her shirt go, and began walking to the exit.
Halen followed Max outside the police station.
Lydia heard the car leave.
Later, when she was on her way to Marty’s office to grab the file, she noticed me sitting on the bench in the jail cell.
Lydia stopped and started talking to me.
Her voice was soft.
I can give you a ride home.
Dorian was outside getting some fresh air, and Marty left.
I am free and heading home, so I figured I would drop you off at Barbara’s place.” Lydia walked over to the jail cell and unlocked the door.
I stood up and went to the door.
Before we exited the police station, I stopped Lydia by calling up her name.
“Lydia, Lydia”
Lydia stopped and turned her face to me.
She was simply gazing at me.
I just stood there as I was frozen.
She cleared her throat to get my attention.
“What?” Lydia asked.
Her voice was cracking silently.
“Why are we not leaving?
I have a suggestion for you.
Leave before I change my mind.” I felt anger in her voice.
I lowered my gaze for a second and then looked at Lydia’s face.
I ran my fingers through my hair.
“Hey, I wanted to check if there are any job openings here because I really need a job.
I am currently unemployed,” I said, sounding pretty firm.
Lydia looked surprised.
“Nope, there are no job openings here,” she replied firmly.
As we got to the door, the phone rang, and Lydia went over to the table to pick it up.
“Let me out,” Damon yelled.
His voice was wavering.
I found the opportunity, and I sneaked out of the police station.
I started walking down the road.
As I walked a little further, I heard voices in the distance.
As I looked closely, I saw Max and his mother standing on the road next to the red car.
Max was yelling at her mother.
I walked into the forest on my right side and hid behind the trees.
I started listening to their conversation.
“I told you, Helen, that I do not need your help.
“To Helen,” Max said.
He spoke with authority.
“Why do not you just leave me alone?” Halen gave Max a double-handed shove.
The crease appeared on Halen’s forehead.
“I want you to come home with me.
We will talk later about this,” Halen said, gritting her teeth.
Max looked at her and smiled.
“Hey, Halen, just pop the hood of the car.
I will check what is wrong,” he said softly.
Halen got into her car and opened the hood.
“Just stay in the car,” Max shouted, his voice sharp and loud.
A few minutes later, Halen came out of the car.
She approached the car bonnet and noticed that Max was not.
Halen started screaming Max name but got no response.
I saw this behind the tree.
While I was waiting, I heard a voice from the forest.
So, I started running in there, like I was chasing someone.
A minute later, I stopped and hid behind a tree.
I peeked out and saw that the guy’s face was changing a lot.
His eyes were glowing, his claws were coming out, and his fangs were showing.
I did not move; I just stayed calm and kept watching him.
It took Max a few minutes to turn into a human-wolf hybrid.
Suddenly, the creature heard something, so he looked around and growled.
