“Jarvis, you are committing a crime.

Listen to your uncle.

Put down the gun and turn yourself in.

Uncle will definitely hire a good lawyer for you.

Ah—”

Before he could finish, Ginny shot Xander Kane in the shoulder.

“Quiet down, or you’re next,” Ginny said.

“Xander Kane, now, which of you two can tell me the truth about what happened?”

Looking at the cold-blooded Ginny, Mia Dawson felt she was a literal demon.

Terror gripped his heart.

Pale-faced and trembling, he stammered, “I…

I’ll talk…

Please don’t kill me, don’t kill me.”

By now, Mia Dawson was nearly scared senseless.

He stared blankly at Shane Dawson; Shane’s wide, dead eyes only deepened his dread.

“I really didn’t know.

I only found out after the accident with your parents.

Really, Jarvis, Sean, I had no idea.

You have to believe me!”

As soon as Mia finished speaking, Xander roared, “Bullshit!

If it weren’t for the rotten ideas from your black-hearted family, would…

would I be in this state?”

“N-No!

Sister, Sean, believe me!

It really was Uncle Xander.

I had nothing to do with it; he was the one who proposed it, I swear…”

“Haha!

Mia Dawson, you despicable coward!

You were the one who bribed the pilot!

You kidnapped his family!

And you claim you didn’t know?

If you and your father hadn’t been afraid that taking power yourselves would piss off the old board members, I probably wouldn’t even be sitting in the CEO’s chair right now!

And…”

“Shut up, shut the fuck up…” Mia yelled, crawling toward Xander.

However, Sean Kane delivered a swift kick, sending him sprawling to the floor.

“Don’t worry, neither of you will escape,” Ginny said coldly.

“Do you want to know what’s happening outside?

We’ll show you.”

Ginny opened her phone and played the video she had recorded earlier.

As they watched the footage, sheer terror crept over their faces, and they immediately began begging for mercy.

“Jarvis, Uncle was wrong!

Please, spare my life!

I’m begging you!”

“Sister, Sean, spare me!

Let me go, please?

I…

I’m begging you!”

Ignoring their pleas, Ginny turned to her brother.

“Sean, I’ll leave it to you.”

Sean nodded.

Gripping a dagger, he advanced on Xander.

Supporting himself with his left hand, Xander scrambled backward, his eyes brimming with desperation.

“Goodbye.” Sean plunged the dagger straight into Xander’s chest, yanked it out violently, and stabbed him again.

He didn’t stop until Xander’s body went completely limp.

Beside them, Mia Dawson watched the blood-spattered Sean, shaking his head incessantly.

Having finished off Xander, Sean turned his bloodshot eyes toward Mia and began to approach him.

Outside the door, listening to the pleas for mercy, Ginny let tears stream down her face.

“Mom, Dad, Sean and I have avenged you.

When Sean finally emerged, pale-faced and drenched in blood, Ginny quickly stepped forward to support him.

“Jarvis, I…

I killed someone…

I killed them.

There’s so much blood…”

“Sean, they murdered Mom and Dad.

They deserved to die.

You…”

“I know…

I know,” he murmured, slumping weakly to the floor, his eyes filled with agony.

Seeing her brother like this left a bitter taste in Ginny’s mouth.

However, in the apocalypse, no one would show you mercy.

The end of the world had stripped away all humanity, and the law simply no longer existed.

Sean knelt on the ground with his head bowed.

After taking a moment to process his emotions, he looked up at Ginny with reddened eyes.

“I’m fine now.

Let’s go.”

“Alright.

But, Sean, go change your clothes first.

There are a lot of zombies nearby, and the smell of blood will easily attract them.”

“Okay.”

He headed up to the fourth floor to his old bedroom in the estate.

Meanwhile, Ginny went downstairs, fetched some cooking oil, and poured it all over the study.

Once Sean had changed and come back down, the two of them made their way to Caroline Corbin and Lyra Kane’s room.

After retrieving Caroline and Lyra, the four of them headed out of the villa.

“Get in the car first,” Ginny instructed.

Watching them climb inside, she pulled a grenade from behind her back, yanked the pin, and tossed it through the front door.

She immediately sprinted toward the gates.

Counting down the seconds, she threw herself onto the ground at the very last moment.

BOOM!

An explosion erupted from the villa, and slowly, the flames spread.

Inside the car, Lyra clung to Caroline, sobbing uncontrollably.

Caroline stared at the raging inferno behind them, tears streaming down her face.

Her son and husband were both gone; she had even witnessed her son mutating into a man-eating monster.

Ginny stood up, brushed the dust off her clothes, and walked over to the vehicle.

As soon as Ginny got in, Lyra threw herself forward, wrapping her arms tightly around Ginny’s waist and whimpering softly.

Ginny didn’t push her away.

Lyra was already timid by nature; after everything she had just experienced, she needed to let it all out, or the trauma would break her.

Besides, Ginny needed some time to think about how she was going to handle the mother and daughter.

On their drive back, wandering zombies were a common sight.

Survivors were already scarce.

The road was littered with abandoned cars, forcing them to constantly take detours.

Upon arriving back at their villa’s neighborhood, Ginny rolled down her window and leaned out, intending to clear out all the zombies roaming the complex.

Fortunately, they only encountered about a dozen along the way—a manageable number.

After killing them, Ginny stepped out of the car to dig out the Corpse Crystals.

After all, they needed to level up as quickly as possible.

When they finally returned home, they found Cecilia Sinclair lying on the ground opposite David Sinclair.

The two were face-to-face, and Cecilia was covered in green slime.

Seeing this scene brought tears to Ginny’s eyes.

If this had been her past life, she would have never agreed to kill her own father; she might have even done a lot of foolish things instead.

She had to admit that Cecilia’s intellect and rationality were far superior to hers.

Thinking about it now, Ginny felt her death in her past life had been well-deserved.

Back inside, Caleb Grant and Sean Kane went to clean the car, while Ginny led Caroline and Lyra upstairs.

A little while later, Ginny came back downstairs.

She crouched beside Cecilia and gently stroked her head.

She didn’t know how to comfort her.

At a moment like this, words were utterly useless.

“I’m fine,” Cecilia rasped.

“I just can’t figure it out.

Sinclair was such a good man.

Why couldn’t God be just a little bit kinder to him?”

Still lying flat on her back, Cecilia stared up at the blood-red sky.

“Did you know?

During the earthquake four years ago, Sinclair saved four students.

His legs were crushed—comminuted fractures.

My mom died in that earthquake.

I was a high school senior back then.

Do you have any idea how devastated I was?

But we made it through.

I kept thinking that Sinclair and I would live a good life together, that things would get better, and that my mom was watching over us from heaven!

“I’m actually quite sensitive.

Every night, Sinclair would talk to my mom for at least half an hour.

I would stand outside his door every day, just listening to him ramble on.

“I don’t want to be an orphan…”

Saying this, Cecilia covered her face with her hands and wept.

Ginny sat down beside her and said softly, “I understand how you feel.

Three months ago, my parents died in a plane crash.

Both of them.

I was even more devastated than you.”

Ginny didn’t say anything else after that.

The two of them simply sat together in the quiet courtyard.

After a while, Cecilia picked herself up from the ground.

“Come on, Miss Kane, let’s head inside.

We both have to live well.

Our parents are watching us!”

Ginny finally offered her first smile of the night.

“Yeah, they’re watching.

We’ll be fine.”

She looked up at the sky.

Even without any stars, Ginny felt as though she could see her parents smiling down at her.

Turning her head, she suddenly realized Cecilia had wiped her tears and snot all over her arm.

Ginny stiffened.

Patting Cecilia’s head, she teased, “You’re covered in snot and tears.

Gross.

Come on, we need to handle your dad’s body, or it’ll start rotting by tomorrow.”

Zombie corpses decomposed exceptionally fast.

In two days at most, they would rot completely.

In her previous life, countless animals had mutated after feeding on rotting zombie flesh.

They retrieved a wire mesh from the back storeroom, hoisted David Sinclair’s body onto it, and suspended it about a meter above the ground.

After piling up some firewood underneath and dousing it with gasoline, everyone looked toward Cecilia to light the fire.

“Miss Kane, you light it,” Cecilia said.

“You all head inside.

I want to stay here with my dad for a bit.

You’ll definitely have things to do tomorrow.”

Once the fire was lit, everyone headed back inside.

Ginny gave Cecilia’s shoulder a comforting pat before following them in.
