When that punch landed, Yu Miao had used real force. After striking him, he turned and ran out of the room.

He ran straight for the stairwell and bolted downstairs, not even knowing how many floors he passed. Disoriented, he searched for an elevator.

Yu Miao was flustered. The moment he saw an elevator door open, he rushed inside, startling the person pushing a cart within. It was a staff elevator but he had no time to care about the other person’s expression. He hurriedly pressed the close button.Full novel: When a Straight Guy Transmigrates into an Alpha, He Can Get Pregnant — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Fortunately, the elevator was going down. When it reached the first floor and the doors slid open, Yu Miao darted out immediately, sprinting out of the hotel and down the main road. He did not dare stop, nor did he dare look back. He just ran with everything he had, not knowing how long he kept going until exhaustion finally forced him to halt.

His heart pounded so violently it felt as though it might burst through his ribs and skin. Bent over with his hands braced against his legs, sweat dripped from his forehead and cheeks onto the ground.

So tired.

So hot.

So uncomfortable.

He had not even processed the shock of transmigration and now he had to deal with a powerful and deranged man. In that moment, despair engulfed him.

But clearly, he had reached his limit.

He no longer had the strength to lift his legs. Gasping for breath, he glanced back anxiously, worried that the lunatic might be chasing him.

The street was pitch black and deserted. He did not know where he was, what time it was or what awaited him next.

Yu Miao forced himself to take a few unsteady steps forward but soon his knees buckled and he collapsed onto the ground, utterly drained.

He truly could not go any farther. Fear and exhaustion intertwined, mixed with a faint trace of self abandonment.

Fine. If he caught up, then he caught up.

He had no strength left at all. His stomach growled with hunger, his entire body ached and his legs felt heavy as lead. His calves trembled and the only sound in his ears was the thunder of his heartbeat.

Lying flat on the road, his chest heaved violently as he stared blankly at the night sky.

Whether from running too long or the oppressive heat, the warmth in his body did not fade even after lying there for quite some time.

He lifted a hand to his forehead, finding it slick with sweat. It was not a fever yet an indescribable heat simmered within him, leaving him profoundly uncomfortable.

Slowly sitting up, Yu Miao reached to the back of his neck. The spot felt as though a bee had stung it , hot, swollen and throbbing with pain. His touch detected slight swelling and a faint itch.

His brows knit together. Had a mosquito or some insect bitten him while he lay on the ground? Guessing so, he scratched the area with his nails, tracing a cross.

After an unknown stretch of time, Yu Miao finally climbed to his feet and began walking along the roadside with no clear direction.

The lunatic had not chased after him. This was a narrow alley, the buildings on both sides worn and shabby. Few people passed by, occasionally a stray dog, both wary of each other, Yu Miao afraid, the dog equally so.

The farther he walked, the darker the path became. There was not even a streetlight. Just as Yu Miao hesitated over whether to continue forward, the quiet street was broken by the arrival of a van.

A sudden tension gripped him. He stopped, watching cautiously as several men stepped out of the vehicle.

“You little bastard, we’ve been looking all over for you.”

A fat man in the group spoke, staring at him. Yu Miao’s heart jolted. Without hesitation, he turned and sprinted back the way he came.

“Damn it, don’t let him run again! Hurry! Catch him!”

Blood had been drawn from Xing Huai’s lips. In his twenty one years of life, no one had ever dared lay a hand on him. Even on the training grounds, classmates and instructors alike never struck him for real.

He had never known that a punch delivered with full force could hurt this much.

When the hotel manager arrived and saw the blood at Xing Huai’s mouth and the swelling on half his face, he nearly lost his wits. A doctor was summoned immediately and the next step was to call Shen Heng for help.

The son of the Supreme Commander of the Alliance Capital Military District being assaulted in a hotel was no small matter.

By the time Shen Heng arrived, the doctor had just finished treating Xing Huai. Seeing the redness and swelling covering half his face, he was startled.

“Who hit you?” Curiosity filled his voice. Who could be so bold?

Xing Huai’s face betrayed no emotion. Holding an ice pack to his cheek, he seemed lost in thought. Only when Shen Heng leaned closer to inspect his injury did his eyes suddenly light up. “He really hit me.”

Shen Heng’s lips twitched. The crown prince had never truly been struck before; experiencing it for the first time, novelty was inevitable.

Xing Huai had been hit by his father as a child but those blows were light. Nothing like this. When that fist had come at him, it had cut through the air. It was undeniably new , but painfully so. Even speaking tugged at his mouth and cheek, making him hiss.

Shen Heng suppressed a laugh but could not help showing sympathy. “It’ll take two or three days for the swelling to go down. Tomorrow half your face will be bruised.” Then he asked, “Who is he? Do I know him?”

A flicker of hesitation crossed Xing Huai’s stern face before he answered, “The one who slept with me.”

“?!” Shen Heng’s expression turned rather colorful. After a moment, he let out an “Oh” and asked, “Where is he now?”

“Ran off.”

“…”

Shen Heng’s brows furrowed.

Xing Huai snorted softly. “He won’t get far.”

His posture radiated certainty. He intended to let that person believe he was safe, only to shatter the illusion and deliver a lesson he would never forget.

Shen Heng continued curiously, “So what do you plan to do with him?”

Xing Huai pressed his tongue against the sore side of his face, wincing slightly. “We’ll talk after he’s caught.”

Yu Miao had barely run two streets before he was caught. Two burly men pinned him to the ground and when he continued to struggle, one of them knocked him unconscious with a punch.

When he opened his eyes again, he was on the floor, hands and feet bound. His mind remained foggy for a while before he noticed several men in the room.

He struggled twice and demanded, “Who are you people? Why am I tied up?”

“Why?” A man sitting on the sofa, smoking, spoke with clear displeasure. “You dare mess with my people and still ask why?”

Yu Miao’s thoughts were a tangled mess. What was going on? What exactly had Zhou You done? He stared blankly, unsure how to react.

The man flicked his cigarette onto the floor, impatience written across his face. “You bastard. Last time you nearly got my place shut down and now you’re messing with my Omega. If I don’t teach you a lesson, you’ll think I’m easy to bully.” He shot a glance aside. “Handle him. Make it clean.”

Two burly men yanked Yu Miao up and dragged him outside.

Snapping out of his daze, Yu Miao realized what he was facing. He struggled fiercely, shouting for help.

But no one showed mercy. They dragged him even more roughly, treating him like nothing and threw him into the van.

The vehicle started. Yu Miao struggled harder, screaming for help with all his strength, as if his throat might tear apart.

“Keep yelling and I’ll cut your tongue out,” the man beside him warned, lighting a cigarette.

Yu Miao fell silent, staring at him in terror before finally saying, “Murder is illegal.”

That made both men laugh, especially the one smoking. He laughed so hard he choked, coughing twice. He seemed about to speak but suddenly his smile became uneven.

The arm holding the cigarette lost strength and dropped. The cigarette slipped from his fingers, his words turning slurred. Moments later, his entire body slid from the seat.

Yu Miao witnessed everything. Years of medical experience made him immediately recognize the signs of a stroke. He shouted urgently, “Stop the car! Your brother is having a stroke!”

The driver cursed. “Bro, he’s cursing you. Tell him to shut up!”

“It’s real!” Yu Miao shouted sharply. “Stop and check. If he dies, don’t regret it!”

The driver cursed again but turned to look. Seeing his brother slumped motionless, panic flooded him and he slammed on the brakes.

“Untie me!” Yu Miao ordered. “Hurry!”

The driver scrambled into the back, hands trembling as he untied the ropes. His voice shook. “What do I do? Can you save my brother?”

Freed, Yu Miao ignored the man’s frantic cries. He elevated the patient’s head, placed him on his side, loosened his collar and belt and after ensuring there was no vomit, said, “Drive to the nearest top tier hospital immediately! And call emergency services to explain the situation! Hurry!”

The van sped off. Throughout the journey, Yu Miao monitored the patient’s condition. After arriving at the hospital, he explained everything to the doctors and only relaxed slightly once the patient was wheeled into surgery.

He could have fled but the thought never crossed his mind. All he wanted was to know whether the man would survive.

After nearly four hours, the operation ended and the patient was out of danger. Yu Miao let out a long breath and looked at the man’s brother. Reflexively, he said, “That’s great. Your brother’s okay.”

The other man reflexively replied, “Yeah.”

Then both realized something and fell silent.

After a while, the man spoke. “Thanks to you today. I won’t be ungrateful. You can go.”

Yu Miao frowned, saying nothing.

The man added, “Don’t stay in Haishi. If Brother Qian catches you again, he’ll definitely kill you.” After a pause, “Unless you can really cling to someone powerful here.”

They had heard rumors about Zhou You climbing into that Xing family heir’s bed. They had always looked down on Zhou You , too calculating, too opportunistic, always causing trouble but today their view shifted slightly.

He could not help but offer advice. “That Xing family crown prince is out of reach for ordinary people. With your looks, find a cop instead. Brother Qian would be at least somewhat wary.”

The surname Xing had become taboo for Yu Miao. Hearing it filled him with revulsion. His face darkened as he said nothing and walked away.

Dawn broke. Yu Miao had to find a police officer. He was going to report it.

In broad daylight, someone dared attempt murder. What kind of world was this?

“Someone really tried to kill me. He’s called Brother Qian,” Yu Miao explained to the police, insisting he was not lying.

When the police pressed him for more details, however, he could not answer a single question.

The truth was that Yu Miao genuinely did not know anything. He was not Zhou You but he could not possibly say that out loud. All he could do was hope the police would at least ensure his personal safety.

His phone was gone, his ID nowhere to be found and he had no money on him. He reported this situation to the officers.

He was truly at the end of the road and utterly exhausted. The officer assigned to him stepped out to take a phone call, leaving Yu Miao sitting motionless on a chair in the police station’s lounge, staring blankly into space.

His chest felt tight. He missed home terribly. Both body and mind were drained and anxiety about where he should go next weighed heavily on him.

He did not know how much time passed. The officer still had not returned but Yu Miao no longer had the energy to care. It felt as though a fire burned inside his body. He touched his forehead , it was hot. So he really had a fever.

He struggled to stay awake for a while longer but before he realized it, he had drifted into sleep. In his hazy dreams, he found himself back in that hotel, on that same large bed, with that same person sitting at the bedside, watching him.

The scene startled him awake. His eyes flew open, darting in alarm.

So it was only a dream. A false fright.

He exhaled in relief and lay there quietly for a few seconds as awareness gradually returned. Outside the enormous floor to ceiling window, the city’s dazzling nightscape stretched before him in full view.

Yu Miao was only confused for a moment before realization struck. He immediately got out of bed , but the instant he tried to take a step, he crashed to the floor.

Just as he became aware that his calves were bound, a pair of damp feet stopped in front of him. Frowning, he slowly lifted his gaze along those feet, raising his head bit by bit, until he met a pair of cold, condescending eyes looking down at him.
