The room was dim, the floor littered with scattered clothes. On the bed, Lu Jiu collapsed heavily, completely spent. In the fog of his half-conscious mind, a voice that was both awkward and faintly shy echoed dully.

“C… Congratulations, Host! You’ve completed your first mission!”

Lu Jiu blinked groggily. The first thing that entered his blurry vision was a sharply defined jawline, smooth and elegant in curve and just beneath it, the Adam’s apple of a man, rising and falling with each calm breath.

The man was lying on the bed, directly facing him, while Lu Jiu was sprawled over him.

When those deep gray eyes lowered and met his own, thoughtful and unreadable, Lu Jiu couldn’t help but let out a silent, wry laugh inside his head.

So this so-called first mission… was just sleeping with some man he didn’t even know?

*Bang! Bang! Bang!*

*Bang! Bang! Bang!*

“Lu Jiu! Open the door! Get out here right now!”

Lu Jiu was jerked awake by the furious pounding on the door.

His eyes snapped open. Blinding light stabbed into his vision. His head was pounding so hard it felt like a hangover, and for a moment he couldn’t even tell where he was.

When his sight cleared, he realized he was sitting slumped beside the bathroom sink. The tap was still running, water gushing noisily into the basin, and the voice of System 111 buzzed anxiously in his head.

“Host! Host, are you okay?!”

Lu Jiu rubbed his aching forehead and braced himself against the wall as he slowly stood up.

He had just thrown up, and after vomiting, he must have passed out cold right there on the bathroom floor.

It had already been thirty-six days since he’d arrived in this world.

He used to be an ordinary office worker, a regular guy who one day got into a car accident while hurrying to a nightclub with friends. When he woke up, he found himself in an unfamiliar world, with a strange voice calling itself “System 111” echoing in his mind.

System 111 claimed it came from something called the “Quick Transmigration Bureau.”

It said there’d been a security breach: a player had stolen the code that allowed travel between mission worlds, split their soul into several fragments, and escaped into multiple “unfinished” worlds that hadn’t yet been officially launched.

Unfortunately, every single one of those worlds happened to be a parallel version of Lu Jiu’s own past lives.

In other words, each of those worlds already had its own “Lu Jiu.” But when the rogue player’s fragments entered, those original souls were forced out, leaving behind corrupted code that invaded and rewrote their bodies.

Now, Lu Jiu’s task was to reclaim those lost versions of himself, fix the chaos in each of his lives, and help the Bureau retrieve the stolen soul fragments so they could capture the culprit.

…And what did any of that have to do with him?

Lu Jiu honestly wanted to roll his eyes into another dimension. He’d been living perfectly fine in his original world.

Why did he have to get dragged into some interdimensional clean-up job for a bunch of cosmic bureaucrats who couldn’t even handle their own mess?

To make things worse, thirty-six days ago he’d entered this body and completed the “first mission,” only to lose control of it right afterward.

During the entire past month, most of the time, it hadn’t even been him controlling the body but that corrupted fragment instead.

That bit of “code” had turned this version of Lu Jiu into a raving lunatic, short-tempered, violent, constantly yelling for no reason.

Only just now had Lu Jiu finally synchronized fully with the body again and regained control. And the moment he did, he’d promptly thrown up and fainted.

Seeing him get back on his feet, 111 let out a digital sigh of relief. “Phew! Okay, okay, at least you’re stable now. Are your memories coming through clearly?”

“Not really. It’s all scrambled.” Lu Jiu shook his head hard, trying to clear the flood of memories crashing around in his mind. But it was hard to think straight with the furious shouting still echoing from outside the door.

He turned, cupped a handful of cold water from the tap, and splashed his face. Then he turned off the faucet, lifted his head, and stared at his reflection in the mirror.

The face staring back at him was still his own, just a few years younger.

A round, slightly youthful face, but pale from nausea and fatigue.

Water dripped from his hair and lashes, the wet strands sticking together, shadowing his dark eyes.

Lu Jiu quickly and roughly skimmed through the body’s basic memories.

In this world, he was a twenty-one-year-old university junior.

His father, Lu Mingyang, looked exactly the same and even had the same name, as the man who, in Lu Jiu’s original world, had long since turned into a box of ashes. But here, he was very much alive.

After Lu Jiu’s mother died, that man had married his long-term mistress. From that mistress came Lu Jiu’s half-brother, Lu Quning, who, according to System 111’s verification, was none other than the escaped player.

Over the past month while Lu Jiu was still adjusting to this body, 111 had gathered some external intel.

The rogue player hadn’t possessed Lu Quning halfway through life; he’d been born into this world, in that body, but only “awakened” his memories three years ago.

When that awakening happened, the soul of this world’s “Lu Jiu” was disturbed and erased, replaced by corrupted data.

And from that moment on, everything changed.

Lu Quning, once timid and ashamed as the illegitimate son of a mistress, had always kept his head down despite his father’s secret favoritism. People in the wealthy social circles of the Lu family looked down on him.

But three years ago, he suddenly became calm, confident, an entirely new person. He threw himself into studying, and his grades skyrocketed from the bottom of the class to the top ten.

He even got accepted into one of the country’s best universities.

The people who used to sneer at him now looked at him with admiration.

At the same time, Lu Jiu who had always been bright, bold, and well-liked, suddenly lost his mind.

He became irritable, aggressive, and prone to outbursts. He’d shout and fight at the slightest provocation.

Fortunately, his academic foundation had always been strong. Even with his “insanity,” he hadn’t completely flunked his college entrance exams, and by a strange twist of fate, he ended up at the same university as Lu Quning.

But his erratic behavior had earned him a terrible reputation.

The two brothers’ family and social standings completely reversed. The people who once surrounded Lu Jiu drifted away, unable to understand him, even afraid of him.

They turned instead to gentle, intelligent, composed Lu Quning, becoming his friends.

Their father, Lu Mingyang, who had once felt guilty toward Lu Jiu, gradually lost his patience. Their shouting matches became routine. Every argument ended with the man roaring, “Get out of my house!”

And just earlier today, they’d been arguing again, this time over a man.

Lu Mingyang had somehow found out that someone was pursuing Lu Jiu, and worse yet, that Lu Jiu might be responding. He had gone ballistic.

“Lu Jiu! Did you hear me?! Open this damn door! You little disgrace, you think hiding in there will… ”

The furious pounding turned into angry kicks. The man’s face was purple with rage, veins bulging on his neck. His second wife, Yang Yu, and Lu Quning stood beside him, trying hard to calm him down.

Suddenly, the door swung open. Lu Mingyang’s raised foot kicked at empty air, nearly making him do the splits on the spot.

“Dad!” Lu Quning rushed forward to catch him before he fell.

When Lu Mingyang steadied himself, the three of them looked up and froze.

Standing in the doorway was a black-haired young man. His skin was pale, his hair damp and clinging to his forehead, droplets of water sliding down to soak the white T-shirt he was wearing.

He had beautiful eyes, slightly upturned at the corners, like a fox’s eyes that seemed to carry a hint of a smile even when his lips didn’t.

Two small moles marked his face: one just beneath his left eye, another on the bridge of his nose. They lent his delicate features an alluring charm that, from childhood, had attracted plenty of admirers.

But in recent years, that same beautiful face had grown cold and shadowed. Those once mischievous fox eyes had turned dark and unreadable, making people hesitate to meet his gaze.

Yang Yu instinctively looked away but then, remembering the situation, quickly forced a smile.

“Jiu-jio, come on, talk to your father properly. Don’t fight anymore, okay?”

Lu Mingyang jabbed a trembling finger toward his son’s face, spitting as he shouted, “If you dare say one more word about being with a man, you can pack your things and get the hell out of this house!”

“Dad!” Lu Quning tried to intervene.

“Then send me the address and the passcode to the new place,” Lu Jiu said lazily, his low, husky voice tinged with indifference.

The three of them froze.

He crossed his arms, leaning casually against the doorframe, his posture relaxed, almost lazy.

“New place?” Lu Mingyang barked out a sharp laugh. “You think I’m going to buy you a new place to live? Keep dreaming! Get out there and fend for yourself!”

“My mom’s savings,” Lu Jiu said calmly, “they’re still with you, right? You said you’d keep them safe for me. You used it all up, didn’t you?”

Lu Mingyang’s face turned red with fury. He opened his mouth, stuttering with rage, but no words came out, his hands even started shaking.

Yang Yu and Lu Quning exchanged startled looks. They weren’t shocked by Lu Jiu’s rebellious tone, no, it was his composure that unsettled them.

Normally, the two of them would already be shouting at the top of their lungs by now. But while Lu Mingyang had entered full fury mode, Lu Jiu… was eerily calm.

Only System 111 knew the truth, his host wasn’t calm at all. He was nauseated. Physically nauseated.

In fact, his stomach had been acting up for two days already.

“What’s wrong with you? Did you eat something bad?” 111 asked, puzzled.

Lu Jiu replied silently in his mind, “Hey, I’ve read enough of those transmigration novels to know systems usually have a bunch of functions, right? Don’t you have, like, a body scanner or something? Check what’s wrong with me and fix it?”

“Uh… novels are novels…” 111 muttered awkwardly.

“So what can you do besides giving me tasks?” Lu Jiu asked, for the first time actually trying to understand his little companion after thirty-six long days.

“…I can bring you warmth when you’re lonely! Encouragement when you’re struggling! Blessings when you’re happy! And confetti when you’re in love!”

“……”

Was he seriously bound to a chatbot system?

Lu Jiu almost laughed out loud and nearly vomited right there on his father.

Taking a deep breath, he forced the wave of nausea down.

Seeing his father still trembling with fury but not forming coherent words, Lu Jiu smiled slightly and asked, in a patient tone, “So, Dad, does that mean the money’s gone or not?”

“You think your mother left you that much?! Like I need her damn money?!” Lu Mingyang roared, his voice cracking.

“Great,” Lu Jiu said lightly. “Then just transfer it all to me. I’ll find my own place.”

“You ungrateful brat!”

Lu Mingyang raised his hand, ready to strike.

But before he could bring it down, the doorbell rang downstairs.

Yang Yu grabbed his arm quickly. “It’s probably Quning’s friends! Don’t make a scene. I’ll get the door.”

She rushed downstairs.

Moments later, the sound of footsteps and laughter drifted up. Yang Yu returned to the living room, leading a few young men inside, each around twenty, dressed in casual luxury, exuding the kind of idle confidence only rich second-generation kids had.

They glanced upstairs the moment they entered.

“Hey, Quning! Bring your luggage down, we’re leaving!”

Lu Quning patted his father’s chest soothingly, then shot Lu Jiu a pleading look. “Don’t make things worse,” he mouthed before turning away.

Then he headed into his room to pack his bags.

Lu Jiu studied him carefully, struggling to dig through the hazy memories of the past thirty-something days.

About a month ago, Lu Quning’s friend, Ye Lin, mentioned that his older brother’s winery was finally set up, the first batch of wine was almost ready to taste and invited Lu Quning and a bunch of second-generation rich kids to spend the National Day holiday there.

Lu Jiu had actually been invited too, after all, Ye Lin used to be his best friend, and Ye Lin’s brother had once treated him like family.

But back then, still under the influence of the “corrupted code” that had driven him half-mad, Lu Jiu had only sneered and turned the offer down.

Now, the room fell silent. With outsiders present, Lu Mingyang couldn’t lose his temper outright.

He still glared daggers at Lu Jiu, clearly planning to continue the argument once the guests left.

Downstairs, a few young men chatted and laughed quietly.

Some glanced at Lu Jiu, then quickly looked away, in just three years, he’d fallen from the center of the circle to its biggest joke.

Only one boy hesitated, then raised his head and asked timidly, “Lu Jiu… are you really not coming?”

The room grew even quieter.

“Hey, Shen Ke, he already said he’s not going,” another boy laughed. “Why keep throwing yourself at a cold wall?”

Shen Ke’s lips pressed together, his face reddening.

“Lu Jiu was just in a bad mood before… maybe he’s better now! Lu Jiu, Ye-ge said we can pick grapes at the vineyard. Come with us, yeah?”

His eyes sparkled with anticipation.

“When has he ever been in a good mood…” someone snickered nearby.

Lu Jiu was rubbing the corner of his eye, maybe because he’d just vomited everything out, his stomach churned with nausea again. But hearing Shen Ke’s words, he paused, thoughts flickering.

To be honest, he didn’t really care about this “capture the rogue player” mission, but the idea of a “rogue player” itself intrigued him. Rather than sit here staring daggers with Lu Mingyang, he might as well tag along with Lu Quning and see where it led.

So, amid a few mocking laughs from below, just as Lu Quning came out of his room dragging a suitcase, a slender arm rested lazily on the upstairs railing.

“Sure,” Lu Jiu said with a smile.

The handsome black-haired youth beamed down at Shen Ke.

Lu Quning froze mid-step. A moment later, he hurried over and hissed in Lu Jiu’s ear, “Ge, that person will be there too! If Dad finds out you met him again, he’ll actually die of rage!”

Lu Jiu arched a brow, half-smiling. “So what, I’m supposed to run away every time that person shows up?”

“I didn’t mean that… ”

“Funny, isn’t it?” Lu Jiu cut him off. “If you hadn’t slipped up, Dad wouldn’t have been so mad, right?”

Lu Quning froze, surprise flashing in his eyes. Lu Jiu was too calm. Normally, he’d be screaming by now.

Trying to suppress the unease in his chest, Lu Quning forced a smile. “I didn’t do it on purpose. But ge, seriously, whatever you do… don’t be with him again… ”

“When was I ever with him?” Lu Jiu turned away, tone indifferent. “Being harassed to death counts as being together now?”

He tilted his head, voice soft and mocking. “Lu Quning, those words…. ‘be together’ they came out of your mouth.”

Lu Quning stiffened.

Lu Jiu waved at Shen Ke, who looked excited downstairs. “I’ll go pack my things.”

“Okay! Jiu-ge, ride with me later!”

Lu Jiu turned and walked into his room, leaving behind a silhouette that filled Lu Quning with dread.

In Lu Jiu’s mind, 111 was still ranting.

“What’s with that rogue player? Why talk so ambiguously?! Even if you were gay, your taste can’t be that bad, that guy’s awful!”

And 111 wasn’t wrong.

The “that person” Lu Quning referred to was a notorious trust-fund heir, twenty-nine, career mediocre, living off family money.

If that wasn’t bad enough, years of indulgence had left him looking half-dead, with dark circles big enough to catch falling eyeballs.

About a month ago, someone in their circle hosted a house party and invited everyone. That guy was there too and for some reason, suddenly took an interest in Lu Jiu.

No matter how many times Lu Jiu shouted or even hit him, the man kept grinning shamelessly.

Soon, the rumor spread that “Lu Jiu and that guy had something going on.”

Just earlier, Lu Quning had accidentally mentioned this while chatting with their mother and when Lu Mingyang overheard, the huge argument erupted.

111 huffed indignantly, “If only I’d transferred you into this body a bit earlier, that sleazy dog wouldn’t have stood a chance!”

He was right that it had been the very day Lu Jiu entered this world.

He’d woken amid chaos and laughter, mind full of fragmented memories, before 111 dumped his first mission on him.

Thinking about it now made him feel queasy again.

Then 111 suddenly went quiet for a moment, before whispering, “…You don’t think you’re pregnant, do you?”

“…” Lu Jiu let out a startled laugh.

“Come on, it’s been about a month since you slept with that guy, right? Perfect timing for morning sickness! If you really are pregnant, you don’t even know who the dad is! so wild of you~”

“You’re seriously saying that?” Lu Jiu said dryly. “Weren’t you the one who gave me the task? “Find your future husband on the third floor and sleep with him’! ring any bells?”

The “that guy” they were talking about now wasn’t the sleazy rich boy. It was someone… far more mysterious.

That night, Lu Jiu had been dizzy with pain when 111 gave him that absurd mission. Apparently, it came directly from the Quick-Transmigration Bureau’s central command.

Refuse, and he’d die.

Obviously, dying for chastity wasn’t on his to-do list. So, reeling and half-delirious, he ditched the crowd downstairs and stumbled into that room on the third floor.

Then came a night of utter madness. By the time he woke again, The man’s name was still unknown, he’d already been flung back home by a system bug, soul and body split apart.

According to 111, the mission was to “pull his and his future husband’s diverging fate lines back together.”

Maybe they’d yanked too hard but hey, it worked.

Lu Jiu, however, couldn’t see any evidence of that. A month had passed, and he still had no idea who the man was.

He only remembered that the man’s technique was excellent, his body perfect and his face strikingly similar to someone he’d once known. Someone unforgettable.

In short: handsome as sin, dangerously delicious.

Lu Jiu finished the thought and sighed, “Cut the dirty daydreams, will you? It’s just a story.”

Pregnant, his ass. Ridiculous.

He stuffed his clothes into a suitcase and headed out.

Lu Mingyang and Yang Yu’s reactions to his decision to leave were immediate and opposite.

Lu Mingyang snapped, “Did I say you could go? Who told you to leave?!”

Yang Yu looked like she wanted to stop him but didn’t dare. Lu Jiu ignored them both, hauling his suitcase downstairs.

Only Shen Ke was still there; the others, including Lu Quning, had already driven off. The moment he saw Lu Jiu, Shen Ke’s eyes lit up like stars.

Lu Jiu vaguely remembered him, a timid boy from his high school days, who’d grown bolder only after befriending him.

Unfortunately, by their second year, Lu Jiu had fallen under the corrupted code’s influence and cut everyone off, even Shen Ke.

But unlike the rest, Shen Ke had never stopped waiting for the day Lu Jiu “came back.”

The boy hurried to pop the trunk, stowed the suitcase, and they both got in. One tap on the gas, and they left Lu Mingyang and Yang Yu far behind.

“Jiu-ge, you should’ve come out with us a long time ago!” Shen Ke grinned.

By October, the city’s heat had finally broken. The car windows were half-open, and a cool breeze streamed in.

Shen Ke kept sneaking glances at the passenger seat where the black-haired youth rested his elbow on the window frame, fingers lazily pressed to his temple.

Sunlight poured through the windshield, outlining sharp, beautiful features. His half-lidded fox eyes shimmered with the same brilliance they’d had years ago, the brilliance that had once captivated everyone.

Shen Ke’s heart pounded wildly.

“Jiu-ge… is it really you?” he asked, not even sure what he meant.

The youth tilted his head, lips curving faintly, and glanced over.

Under the sun, he was so beautiful it blurred the line between male and female, like a face painted on an old magazine cover.

“If it’s not me,” he drawled, “then who else could it be?”
