“We should… sleep in the same bed.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Lin Shen realized he had asked a foolish question.
Because after hearing it, Lu Jing raised an eyebrow ever so slightly, then lowered the hand that was about to turn off the light and turned fully to face him.
Lu Jing watched him quietly, not speaking, as if seriously considering how to answer the question.
The air seemed to freeze. Lin Shen held his breath, afraid of making any unnecessary movements or saying anything superfluous.
Time stretched endlessly in that moment. Lin Shen secretly observed Lu Jing’s expression, trying to find any hint of emotion that might reveal his current state of mind.
Finally, Lu Jing spoke. Looking into Lin Shen’s eyes, he asked, “Lin Shen, what was the thing we placed between us earlier?”
Lin Shen: “…The marriage certificate.”
Lu Jing: “What is our relationship now?”
Lin Shen: “…Partners.”
Lu Jing leaned forward, closing the distance between them: “Although you’ve forgotten, I still want to remind you—we are not only legally partners, but we have also already consummated our marriage.”
Lin Shen’s ears instantly flushed crimson, the blush spreading from the tips all the way down to his neck.
Memories from when he first woke up assaulted his mind once more—the warm lips, the scorching touches, and the hand that had slipped inside… At this thought, Lin Shen shuddered and quickly shook his head, trying to dispel those overly stimulating, adult-only images from his mind.
Lu Jing continued, “Do you understand what I mean?”
Lin Shen nodded, his face still flushed.
Lu Jing pressed on gently, “So, how do you think we should sleep tonight?”
Lin Shen was utterly flustered. His already unclear thoughts grew even more muddled, and he could only follow Lu Jing’s lead: “We should… sleep in the same bed.”
Lu Jing nodded in satisfaction, but seeing the cautious look in Lin Shen’s eyes, his heart softened unexpectedly, and he couldn’t bear to push further.
Before leaning back, Lu Jing said to Lin Shen, “If you’re not quite ready to adjust yet, we can sleep a bit farther apart.”
Hearing this, Lin Shen visibly relaxed.
Under Lu Jing’s gaze, he slowly lifted the blanket and slipped inside.
With a soft click, the light went out. Lin Shen lay on his back, staring at the dark, empty ceiling, not daring to move a muscle.
Soon, a rustling sound came from beside him—Lu Jing settling into bed.
The room fell silent once more. Lin Shen closed his eyes, but sleep eluded him.
Everything tonight felt too surreal. Lin Shen thought dazedly, I’m married, and my spouse is Lu Jing, the man I’ve always dreamed of—no, the man I never dared to hope for.
The person he once could only look up to with great effort now lay beside him. When he moved closer, he could even catch the pleasant scent of Lu Jing’s shower gel.
When he moved closer…
The image of their lips touching flooded his mind again, like an inescapable magic lingering around him.
Unconsciously, Lin Shen reached up and touched his own lips.
Perhaps it was his imagination, but he felt his lips were slightly warm, as if they still carried the lingering warmth from Lu Jing’s kiss.
“Lin Shen.” Suddenly, the very person he was thinking about called his name.
Lin Shen quickly lowered his hand, tucked it back under the covers, and lay down properly. In his fluster, he lost his balance and nearly tumbled off the edge of the bed.
After struggling to steady himself, he responded with a soft “Mm.”
Lu Jing didn’t seem to notice his movements, only saying in a low, drawn-out voice, “Lin Shen, I know you’re not used to this, but you’ll have to adapt gradually.”
Lin Shen didn’t quite understand what Lu Jing meant by “adapt gradually,” but he still replied softly, “Mm.”
“Alright, let’s sleep. I’ll take you to the hospital tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
“Goodnight,” Lu Jing said finally.
Lin Shen’s face was half-buried under the blanket, his voice muffled as he replied, “Goodnight.”
To think that in his lifetime, he could hear his idol lying beside him saying goodnight. Before drifting off to sleep, Lin Shen thought, perhaps this was just an elusive illusion.
Early the next morning, Lin Shen woke up teetering on the edge of the bed. He opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling above him before slowly turning his head.
A handsome face came into view with the first rays of morning sunlight.
Lu Jing was incredibly good-looking—with a high nose bridge and long eyelashes. Half of his face was pressed against the pillow as he slept, and stray strands of black hair fell across his eyes and brows.
Such a beautiful scene seemed like something that could only exist in a dream. Lin Shen gazed at Lu Jing’s sleeping face, momentarily forgetting to look away.
Suddenly, the person before him slowly opened his eyes. After a brief moment of surprise upon meeting Lin Shen’s gaze, the corners of his eyes crinkled as he said, “Good morning.”
Lin Shen’s face flushed uncontrollably with a faint blush. “Good morning.”
As Lu Jing pushed back the covers and got out of bed, his eyes swept over the spot where Lin Shen had slept, his brows furrowing almost imperceptibly.
But in the end, he said nothing, simply turning and walking into the bathroom.
While Lu Jing was washing up, Lin Shen quickly scanned the room.
The room was spacious, with an overall minimalist layout, and the curtains were the simplest shade of gray-white.
Its overall vibe suited Lu Jing quite well.
After looking around, Lin Shen’s gaze settled on the wardrobe beside the bed. It was currently summer, and changing clothes would inevitably be a bit inconvenient. He couldn’t remember at all whether he had avoided changing directly in front of Lu Jing before losing his memory.
But since they were already legally married, and judging by Lu Jing’s affection toward him last night, it probably wasn’t something he avoided.
Lin Shen then fell into another internal struggle—should he wait for Lu Jing to come out and take his clothes into the bathroom to change, or should he seize the moment and quickly change now, despite the risk of Lu Jing opening the door at any moment?
The words “But you have to get used to it slowly” floated before his eyes once again. Lin Shen wondered helplessly whether not avoiding Lu Jing while changing clothes fell within the scope of “getting used to it.”
After a fierce internal battle, he ultimately decided to finish the task quickly before Lu Jing emerged.
The wardrobe in the room didn’t hold too many clothes, mostly everyday wear. Perhaps more clothes were in the walk-in closet, Lin Shen guessed.
Although his clothes were placed close to Lu Jing’s, it wasn’t difficult to distinguish their owners. Lu Jing was ten centimeters taller than Lin Shen, and his clothes were also slightly larger.
After randomly picking out a suitable outfit, Lin Shen glanced at the tightly closed bathroom door. Confirming that the person inside had no immediate intention of coming out, he immediately took off his pajamas.
Just as he grabbed the T-shirt and was about to pull it over his head, the bathroom door clicked open.
Lin Shen’s body froze. It took a full two seconds before he resumed moving.
After putting on the T-shirt and looking up, he unexpectedly met Lu Jing’s gaze. Lin Shen felt so embarrassed he wished he could find a hole to bury himself in.
After a moment of silent eye contact, Lu Jing spoke first: “Why didn’t you keep changing?”
He glanced at the pajama pants Lin Shen was still wearing and asked very seriously, “Do you need my help?”
There was no extra meaning in his tone, just the most ordinary inquiry between partners.
Although Lin Shen already knew about their relationship and had repeatedly reminded himself of it internally, he still couldn’t quickly adapt to his connection with Lu Jing.
After all, anyone who woke up to learn they had married their idol would find it unbelievable.
Not receiving an answer, Lu Jing took a few steps closer, asking with some concern, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Lin Shen snapped back to reality and shook his head. “N-no, I’m fine.”
Lu Jing still seemed a bit uneasy but didn’t press further.
Lu Jing’s gaze felt almost tangible as it rested on Lin Shen, making his entire body burn with heat.
Lin Shen clutched the corner of his pants, unsure whether to put them on or not, once again caught in a dilemma.
Fortunately, Lu Jing seemed to have only come to retrieve something. After taking it, he returned to the bathroom.
Lin Shen breathed a sigh of relief and quickly changed his pants.
Lin Shen found his phone on the nightstand and opened the notes app. He had a habit of recording his daily work in his notes.
Lu Jing soon emerged from the bathroom, so Lin Shen took his phone and walked in.
The notes indicated that he had limited rest time today, with only a commercial shoot scheduled for the afternoon.
When Lin Shen saw the company behind the endorsement product, he nearly choked on his own saliva at the sight of the company’s name.
After all, he was just a nobody in the industry, someone who would never have any connection with such a high-end brand.
Could it be that during the years he had lost his memory, he had risen from obscurity to become a rising star?
Lin Shen quickly opened Weibo, first checking his follower count. Seeing only twelve thousand, he switched to the search bar to look up news related to himself.
It didn’t take long for him to reach a conclusion—he was indeed still a nobody.
After confirming this, Lin Shen almost immediately wanted to call his agent and ask if there had been a mistake. Otherwise, why would such a major brand approach a small-time nobody like him for an advertisement?
But reason told him he couldn’t ask now. Losing his memory was no small matter, and until he understood the situation better, it was best not to involve others.
Lin Shen put down his phone and turned his attention back to the bathroom.
On the vanity, there were two sets of personal items. From the wardrobe to the toothbrushes, these seemingly ordinary objects constantly hinted at the traces of two people living together.
After finishing his morning routine, Lin Shen didn’t see Lu Jing anywhere. He walked out of the room and found him in the kitchen.
An indescribable warmth flowed from his heart to every part of his body. The cozy and heartwarming scene made Lin Shen freeze in place, almost unable to take another step.
Hearing the sound behind him, Lu Jing turned around. “Breakfast will be ready soon. After we eat, we’ll go to the hospital.”
Lin Shen nodded numbly, forcing himself to tear his gaze away from Lu Jing to snap out of this dreamlike moment.
After familiarizing himself with the house, Lin Shen wanted to find something to do.
After wandering around for a bit, he remembered that going to the hospital required his ID card. He returned to the kitchen and asked, “Um…” He still didn’t know how to address Lu Jing. “Where is my ID card?”
Lu Jing scooped the eggs from the pan onto a plate, turned back, and said, “It’s in the nightstand in the bedroom.”
“Okay,” Lin Shen said. “I’ll go look for it.”
Back in the room, looking at the two nightstands, he realized he had forgotten to ask for more details. He first searched the side where he had slept last night but found nothing. Then he walked over to Lu Jing’s side and began rummaging through it.
It should be fine, right? Since they were partners and seemed to have a good relationship, there shouldn’t be anything he couldn’t see.
Lin Shen slowly crouched down and pulled open the bottom drawer. Inside, two red marriage certificates lay quietly.
A legally binding marriage certificate.
At this thought, Lu Jing’s words from last night—”We are not only legally married, but we have also consummated the marriage”—echoed in his ears once more.
Lin Shen flushed with embarrassment at his own untimely recollection, his heart racing. Without examining the drawer’s contents further, he slammed it shut with a bang.
After his breathing steadied, he opened the last untouched drawer.
He thought, the ID card must be in here.
As he pulled the drawer open, Lin Shen’s pupils contracted sharply, and his entire body froze—inside lay an opened box of condoms, and it was clear that several were missing from the opened pack.
“What’s wrong? Is the ID card not there?” Lu Jing’s footsteps drew closer, and he glanced down, catching sight of the contents in the drawer.
Lu Jing: “…”
Lin Shen: Good heavens!
