5 days later Ethan began to move his body.
‘What is this feeling, why does it feel like there’s something in my nose, and why am I in pain?’ He thought to himself as he struggled to open his eyes.
“Doctor, Nurse!
He’s awake someone!” Ethan’s mom began to shout as she repeatedly pressed the button calling for help to come to the room.
They arrived not too long after her announcement, by that time Ethan had already opened his eyes and realized he was in a hospital bed.
‘What even happened there was some guy that called himself Zeus he said something about this not being the world we knew…
didn’t we travel back from the future?’ Ethan began to try and sort out the fog in his mind and understand how he had come to being in the hospital.
“Ethan I’m so glad you’re okay!” His mother said as tears were coming down her face seeing her some like this.
The nurses removed the unnecessary tubing from Ethan’s nose that was feeding him, and started to run check ups on his vitals and his condition.
“You might feel a bit weak and some pain, but that’s normal after what you just went through.
Do you know what happened before you became like that your injuries were pretty serious.” The doctor began to ask.
“Zue…” Ethan started before realizing how crazy he would sound and the words of Zeus echoed in his mind to not trust anyone.
“I don’t know, it’s really hazy there were these lightning strikes and the next thing I know I had collapsed on the ground in extreme pain before losing consciousness.” Ethan said after a short pause.
“That’s also what your friend said…
you had started to say something else, what were you going to say?” The doctor asked curious because his friend had no slips of the tongue.
“It was just a dream I had while unconscious, my mind is a bit hazy right now I don’t quite understand what happened myself.” Ethan stated hoping this would be the end of the doctor’s questioning.
“Alright then, if there’s something else you can think of don’t hesitate to let me know, your friend is next door, he woke up not too long ago as well, if you would like we can retract the wall separating you two.” He said done with his questioning.
“Yes that would be great!” Ethan said more chipper than before.
After Ethan said this the doctor gave instructions to a nurse to complete the task of retracting the wall before turning and leaving the room to complete his paperwork.
Ethan’s mother was on the phone again as the doctor left the room.
“Yes, yes he is awake, would you be able to come to the hospital to sit with him I need to go back into work soon.” She said into the phone, “thank you I will see you soon.” She said after a brief pause before she hung up.
The nurse had already started retracting the wall, as Jason had started to come into sight.
“Ethan, do you know what you and your friend might want to eat, I will go grab it for you guys.” His mother said as she stood up and began to grab her purse.
“Can we have pizza?
One supreme and one plain cheese?” He asked as she smiled gently and nodded before heading out.
“We now interrupt with breaking news, another bank has seemingly been robbed in broad daylight as the bags floated out of the vault at an astonishing speed!
We ask that anyone with any information report this to the federal crime stoppers to help us protect the citizens of our country…” after this the tv from Jason’s room beeped a few more times, “That’s some crushing breaking news Jeff, there have been more and more unexplainable events since those lightning strikes were seen nation wide across the US.
We hope that all of you can stay safe and we will continue to provide your regular news after a short word from our sponsors.” The tv programming said before advertisements for different election campaigns began to go across the screen.
Jason’s eyes had been glued to the tv, he just noticed that the wall had been removed and he could see Ethan about 8 meters away from him in a different bed.
He got out of the bed walking over to his friend looking clumsy and pained as he hobbled over.
He punched Ethan lightly on the shoulder, “This is probably the biggest mess we’ve ever made, I’m kind of glad I came over because I knew you would have done it anyway, but at least we can work together to try and figure something out and maybe solve all of this.
A lot has happened since we lost consciousness.” He said before sitting on the edge of Ethan’s bed.
“Do you mind giving me an update?” Ethan asked now that he had been released from his own thoughts.
“It seems the message we received wasn’t false.
There are now Churches claiming they have been gifted by god and the time has come for us to repent and join their faith, while professionals in all sorts of fields are also having intense experiments.
The government tried to mobilize and keep things quiet but the problem is this is happening world wide.
Some people have come out as superhero’s as well claiming to be protector’s of justice and peace.
Some government officials even came to me asking questions so you should be prepared.” Jason said with a sigh as if he was annoyed by this change of events.
Hearing all of this Ethan was at a loss of words, there was an excitement deep within him, but it was currently being overshadowed by fear and regret.
“This is all my fault isn’t it?” He asked.
Jason didn’t say anything for a while which was good enough as an answer before he eventually spoke up, “you remember what he said he was partly responsible for all of this as well, and I guess I could even say it’s slightly my fault as well not trying harder to convince you to stop.” Jason said in hopes of helping his friend calm down a bit.
“What about your family?
Have you been able to get in contact with them?” Ethan asked trying to change the subject and find some kind of silver lining.
“I grew up in an orphanage, I don’t have any family, just the one I made for myself in my later years.
I think it’s best if we focus on what’s going on around us I’m afraid that the current chaos might only be the start as more and more people begin adjusting to the new world.
With what’s currently happening the social structure all around the world should begin changing soon, and when that happens we will need to be somewhere safe.” Jason said further setting in the fact that he and his friend may have irreparably changed the world.
Just as he said this there was a knock at the door, “Ethan Harper, this is the federal investigations captain and I would like to ask you a few questions.” A woman’s voice sounded from the other side of the door.
“Sure come in,” he responded seeing Jason heading back to his own bed after giving him a cautious look.
The woman entered the room wearing heels and a skirt suit, her jet black hair was tied neatly into a bun on top of her head while she wore a pair of ruby glasses that seemed to complement her perfectly tanned and smooth skin.
“Hi Jason, I am captain Aria with the federal investigations unit.
I was originally here to visit someone else but I was also led to you and your friend through the same investigation.” She said giving a light smile and a wave to Jason briefly.
“What do you want?
I’m kind of tired.” Ethan said with seemingly no emotion in his voice.
“Straight to the point I’m going to like you, I wanted to ask a few questions.
Do you remember what happened before the lightning struck and you and your friend passed out.
The lightning seems to have struck twice and was somehow visible nation wide.
I also spoke with some of your neighbors and they say that they saw you and Jason speaking with someone before the second lightning strike who seems to have disappeared.” She said causing Ethan to tense up a bit not knowing how much she actually knew.
“I don’t remember too much we were working on the computer when the first lightning bolt had struck, after that it’s a fog I’m sorry I don’t think I will be able to help you too much.” Ethan said scratching his head.
“That’s the same as your friend was telling me, do you feel any additional energy in your body that wasn’t there before?
And are you able to feel the change in atmospheric pressure around us?” The captain asked.
Hearing this question Ethan closed his eyes for a moment and was surprised to feel some sort of energy inside of him, and what felt like another living energy outside of himself causing his eyebrows to raise and twitch.
As he opened his eyes he met Jason’s eyes looking directly at him as if saying not to say a word still his reaction after closing his eyes was enough for aria to come to her own conclusion.
Before Ethan could say he felt nothing captain Aria was already walking out of the room.
“Thank you for your cooperation Jason and Ethan, we will be seeing one another soon.” With that the door closed behind her and she was gone.
“Damn it Ethan, you’ve never been good at concealing your curiosity, sometimes I wonder if you have some type of cat DNA that makes you this curious.” Jason said as he made his way back to Ethan’s bedside before looking all over the area where the captain was for any device she might have left behind.
“What was she talking about energy inside of me and atmospheric pressure?” Ethan asked still slightly dumbfounded about the interaction with the investigations unit captain.
“Remember when I told you some people have come out as super hero’s?
Well a lot of people that have come out without being silenced yet are either too strong for the government to do anything about or they have their own ways to spread information through encrypted channels and they are saying that there has been a great enlightenment that has forever changed the world.
On the news they say it’s like a living cosmic energy in the air that some people are working on absorbing and becoming stronger while others are studying and learning the energy within themselves while refining it to become stronger, honestly I suspect that some of them might have been like this before we even did anything and are just making moves now to gain more followers since they may also see how quickly and drastically things are changing.” Jason explained leaving Ethan with even more to think about and digest.
“What the hell..
this is all so much.
It’s like we didn’t even travel through time and instead ended up in some fantasy novel.” Ethan said with a sigh as he put his hand on his forehead to fight the oncoming headache.
