JUNE’S POV “Mother!” Tristine snapped, his voice laced with barely concealed annoyance.
My eyes flew open the moment I heard her.
It wasn’t like I was shocked or surprised, but I had to make it look as real as possible, since I had decided to take September’s advice.
Luna Amelia’s head turned sharply toward Tristine, and she arched her brows.
“Don’t mother me,” She replied.
“It’s better we let her know what to expect.
The earlier the better.” Despite the calmness in Luna Amelia’s voice, the firmness underlying each word was undeniable.
“I never said I needed another Luna,” Tristine muttered as calmly as he could.
Then he let out a breath, but the firm grip on his cutlery betrayed the fury simmering beneath his composure.
I could tell he was doing his best to keep his anger locked in and to be honest, I was enjoying it.
“It’s for the peace of the Packs!” Luna Amelia short back, her nose flaring.
Her pointed glare was fixed on Tristine whose grip on his silver spoon had begun to bend the handle.
“We don’t have any problem with Purple Moon Pack, Mother,” Tristine tried to reason, gritting his teeth.
I tore my gaze away from him and looked down at my plate instead.
Absentmindedly, I pushed the diced chunks of venison around with my cutlery, picking them apart without taking a single bite.
Although I wasn’t concerned about the news, I couldn’t let them see how unconcerned I was.
I needed to at least make him believe I was upset.
I kept pushing the chunks around until I heard Luna Amelia’s words.
“You married the Rogue Princess for the very same reason,” Luna Amelia said, her words laced with venom.
“Why can’t you do the same with the Purple Moon Pack?
Must you wait until we’re at odds with them before securing our alliance forever?” Her golden-rimmed eyes glowed with fury, never leaving Tristine’s face.
As for Tristine, his jaw remained clenched, his teeth grinding together in restrained anger.
I could tell he was choosing his words carefully.
Perhaps he didn’t want to hurt Princess Cassy, who sat as still as a mannequin, her expression unreadable.
As if that wasn’t enough, Luna Amelia continued, taking advantage of his silence.
“As far as I know, Princess Cassy has always been the best choice to be the Luna of this Pack.” At that moment, I couldn’t take it anymore.
I deliberately set my cutlery down on my silverware with a loud clatter, making sure the sound echoed through the dining room.
I wanted them to notice.
More importantly, I wanted Tristine to notice.
He was my real target, after all.
Thankfully, they did.
I rose from my seat, making sure every pair of eyes was fixed on me.
Then a faint smile curled on my lips as I turned my gaze to Luna Amelia, staring straight into her eyes.
“I think I’ve had more than enough,” I said as calmly as I could.
I shot Tristine one last glance before turning and walking out of the dining room.
“And where do you think you’re going?” Luna Amelia called after me.
The firmness in her voice brought me to a halt.
My fists clenched at my sides.
Slowly, I glanced back over my shoulder.
“What?” I asked, deliberately avoiding her eyes.
“Do you expect me to thank you for dinner?” “Well, I don’t expect you to,” Luna Amelia replied with a quick bitter smile.
“Considering where you come from, I already know you’re uncouth and uncultured.
But I did expect you to show a little respect – or at the very least, possess some basic etiquette.” Her crispy voice sliced through my defenses.
“Mother, that’s enough!” Tristine snapped, his voice rising, his brows drawn closer.
I scoffed.
If not that I had prepared myself for that night, I really wouldn’t have held back.
But September’s words kept playing in my mind and I silently counted the days I had left to endure the insults.
“You know you could have told me I wasn’t invited right from the beginning then I should’ve stayed in my room,” I replied, my voice steady.
Then I turned toward her, my fists clenching at my side, my lips turned upward as I held her glare.
“As far as I am here, I won’t let any other person become my Co Luna,” I spat, my voice as firm as a rock.
“I’m sure you know what breaking this peace treaty means,” I continued.
“war!” Luna Amelia’s eyes widened, she looked like she was about to say something, but I didn’t let her.
“You think you’re capable of breaking it, then do so and we’d show you just how uncultured the Rogue clan are.” “How dare you?” Luna Amelia’s chest rose and fell as she slammed the table.
I didn’t answer her, I turned and walked away.
I really wanted to provoke her and I was glad I did.
I knew I wasn’t supposed to react especially after September’s teachings, but I just couldn’t stand her.
Since I knew I wouldn’t be seeing her after a few more days, I didn’t mind letting her know just how much I hated her as well.
As I drew closer to the door, I heard their voices.
“Did you hear that?
Alpha!
Are you going to let your wife talk to me like that?” “I’m sorry, mother, but I have to go now!” I had already stepped out of the living room when Tristine caught up with me.
“Kira, wait,” he said trying to grab my hand, but I snatched it from him.
“Don’t touch me!” I hissed, glaring at him.
I needed an excuse to stay away from him and thankfully, his mother had given me the best.
Tristine walked alongside me through the walkway connecting his mother’s mansion to his.
All through he didn’t stop talking.
“Kira, can we at least talk about what happened?” “I didn’t expect my mother to do that to you.” “I never said I wanted another Luna, you’re all I want and I don’t intend to make Princess Cassy one.” “I’m so sorry about that, Kira.
Could you at least say something?” I halted, and turned toward him.
“It’s clear your mother doesn’t like me.
So why don’t you stay away from me!” I short back, staring into his eyes.
Tristine let out a breath as he held my gaze.
“I’m sorry,” he replied.
“But I can’t do that.
I’m not even going to do that,” his voice turned possessive.l as his gaze hardened.
“In ten days time, I’d make you my Luna.
I’m going to let every Pack know that Red Moon Pack has found her Luna.” The firmness in his voice left me completely speechless, but it did something else to me.
My blood boiled, surging through my veins like wildfire.
My fists clenched tightly at my sides, and I knew I had to leave before I completely lost control and exposed myself.
How dare he try to claim me?
I turned and strode away from him.
I needed to find September immediately, to inquire about our plan.
I couldn’t wait anymore.
