TRISTINE’S POV ‘It’s been one week already since the dinner with your mother,’ Knox grumbled, his voice interrupting my chain of thoughts for the umpteenth time that afternoon.

‘One whole week and I’ve barely heard the voice of our Mate,’ he rumbled, the intensity in his voice captured the whole of my attention as it resounded within me.

You can’t even get our Mate.

She’s so close to me, yet I can’t even touch her.

You keep starving me of her presence.’ My fists tightened on top of the table where they rested.

“Would you just let me think?” I said as calmly as I could.

I had been doing my best not to let his words get into my head, avoiding him as much as I could.

Yet he didn’t give up until he succeeded in getting me invested.

‘You better do something as soon as possible, otherwise, I won’t forgive you,’ he grunted.

It wasn’t a threat.

And so he went, slipping into slumber again.

The hollowness he left was quickly refilled as my blood surged, and I clenched my fists.

I didn’t need anyone to tell me he was angry.

I let out a breath, trying to still myself, trying to slow the thump in my chest.

My mind was filled with the memory from that dinner, and as it lingered my claws dug into my palm, but the frustration I felt made me numb to the pain.

It was the click on the door that snapped me back to the present, and my head turned to Lux who had just rushed into my study, panting.

The top buttons of his shirt were left undone.

My brows furrowed.

Lux was rarely in a haste except it was a matter of urgency, but before I could utter a word, he stretched his hands towards me.

“Princess Kira,” his words tumbled out of his lips, almost breathlessly.

My eyes gradually widened the moment I heard her name.

“She fainted!” He blurted out before I could ask.

His words slammed into me, making my heart skip.

I snapped to my feet.

‘Our Mate?’ Knox growled within me, fraying the thought edges of my composure.

But I clenched my fists, trying my best to keep him shut in.

“What happened to her?” I asked, searching his face.

Lux shook his head, gasping, which only made my blood surge in desperation.

“I don’t know, Alpha, she…” But I didn’t wait for him to complete his words.

No, Knox couldn’t wait for him anymore, he forced me to my feet before I took the first step.

My feet were swift and purposeful as they carried me out of the study.

I knew I’d get to find out what had happened to her after I had seen her.

“She’s at the clinic!” Lux called after me, sprinting behind me, I didn’t even know I was sprinting toward the clinic.

The two wooden entrance doors slammed against both sides of the walls as I rushed into the royal clinic, pulling every head toward my direction.

“Where’s Princess Kira?” I asked, my voice echoing through the reception area.

Since the clinic was strictly for the royalties, it was sparsely populated.

“Alpha,” Harrison, the royal physical greeted with a bow as soon as he saw me.

He was at the reception speaking with one of his assistants who had lowered his head in reverence.

I strode toward him, my feet heavy with determination.

“What happened to her?” My voice dropped as I stared at his face, trying my best to steady myself.

‘I need to see her now!’ Knox’s voice rumbled within me.

The urgency in it, left no place for negotiation.

“We’ve conducted a series of tests on her, the results will be out soon,” he replied, wide-eyed.

“But you can see her now, Alpha,” he quickly added, gesturing toward the large passageway.

The whole of me itched for her as I walked beside Harrison, and the moment I saw her, I couldn’t stop myself from rushing to her side.

Despite how soundly she slept I just couldn’t shake the pang of worry that had settled within me.

“I’ll go check if the results are out.” Harrison quickly excused himself, leaving me alone with her in the whitewashed private room.

‘Mate!’ Knox’s voice softened, his ragged breath slowing down.

I held her hand and placed a soft kiss on the back of her left hand, and a great sense of guilt overwhelmed me immediately.

Although I didn’t know why she had suddenly fainted, I felt I could’ve prevented it if I hadn’t given her the space she demanded.

‘Good thing you know its your fault!’ Knox hissed within me, but I ignored him.

He had been angry with me for the past days.

I sat beside her and brushed stray black hair away from her face and tucked it behind her ear, before covering her left hand again with both of mine.

The peace that exuded from her gradually seeped into me, slowing the thump in my heart, and my shoulders slackened.

The more I stared at her sleeping face, the more I felt at ease.

After a few minutes, the door opened and Harrison walked in, holding an envelope in his hands.

The expression on his face made my brows furrow.

He had a barely noticeable smile on his face that made me wonder why he was smiling.

“The results are out, Alpha,” he said warmly.

His gray eyes glowed as he stretched the envelope toward me.

Although I was confused about why he had given it to me instead of telling me what was wrong with her, I collected it from him and swiftly opened it.

As I drew out the report from the envelope, Harrison’s voice came again.

“Congratulations, Alpha, your wife is pregnant.” His words slammed into me rattling every single bone within me.

Pregnant?

How was it possible?

I scanned the brown paper in my hands and as soon as I saw it my head jerked up.
