“We are here.”
Qin Yu’s voice came from the front.
Wen Chu sat up straight, rubbed her temples, which were faintly swollen from excessive mental power consumption, and looked out the window.
A magnificent complex of buildings appeared in her field of vision.
The white exterior walls, streamlined glass curtain walls, and towering office buildings reflected a cold gleam in the morning light.
If she did not know better, she would have thought this was some high tech industrial park.
She could not help sighing inwardly.
In modern society, everyone stayed up late, ate takeout, and lived under enormous pressure. The demand for medicine was astonishingly high, directly turning pharmaceutical factories into places as grand as palaces.
A sign hung beside the iron gate.
“Han City Third Pharmaceutical Factory.”
The area outside the factory gate was packed with zombies.
At a rough glance, there were at least two or three hundred of them.
The outbreak of the zombie virus had happened to coincide with the end of the pharmaceutical factory’s evening shift.
The workers had poured out through the factory gates. Before they even had time to get on the company buses and go home, their colleagues who had suddenly turned into zombies had already pounced on them.
Now, those zombies wearing blue work uniforms were gathered in groups of two or three around the entrance.
Some wandered around aimlessly. Some were crouched on the ground chewing on something. Others were violently slamming themselves against the iron gate, producing dull banging sounds.
Beichuan poked his head over from the back seat. After taking one look, he immediately pulled his head back.
“My god… There are so many?”
Song Shiyu leaned against the seat and helplessly said, “It is a pharmaceutical factory. It contains important supplies. How could it possibly be that easy?”
Fan Jingshen frowned as he observed the area for a moment, then adjusted his glasses.
“The factory grounds are very large. There is a large number of zombies gathered at the main entrance, but there seem to be fewer around the side entrance.”
Song Xingci thought for a moment before patting Shen Chuman’s hand.
“Chuman, your space makes it convenient to carry supplies. Stay close to me later.”
Then he turned toward everyone, his tone carrying an unquestionable sense of authority.
“Wen Chu’s water ability can clear obstacles. Qin Yu’s metal ability will be responsible for clearing the way. The rest of you stay in the vehicle and keep the walkie talkies ready to provide support.”
Before he could finish speaking, Qin Yu calmly spoke.
“Young Master Song, I am the young lady’s bodyguard. My only responsibility is to protect her safety.”
It was an unmistakable refusal.
The air inside the vehicle suddenly became several degrees colder.
Song Xingci’s expression visibly darkened.
This bodyguard had always liked going against him.
Back when Wen Chu had followed him everywhere, Qin Yu’s gaze whenever he looked at Song Xingci had carried an indescribable coldness.
Now he was becoming even more blatant.
Song Xingci turned toward Wen Chu, his voice lowered and filled with warning.
“Keep your people under control. Otherwise, do not blame me for being ruthless.”
Wen Chu tilted her head and curled her lips into a mocking smile.
“I would like to know exactly how you plan to be ruthless.”
Song Xingci’s expression became even darker.
He did not notice it.
Or rather, he simply did not have the ability to notice it.
The cold glint that flashed through Wen Chu’s eyes.
A low level supernatural ability user could not see the true strength of a high level supernatural ability user.
Wen Chu had been continuously using her mental power to collect supplies throughout the journey. Whenever her mental power was exhausted, she would drink Spirit Spring Water. At this point, her control ability had already reached the early stage of level two.
Song Xingci had used his lightning ability to kill a few scattered zombies along the way, but he was only at the middle stage of level one.
Even Wen Chu could not see through Qin Yu’s strength.
That meant Qin Yu’s ability level was above hers.
He was probably already at the middle stage of level two, or perhaps even the peak of level two.
So then.
How could a middle stage level one Song Xingci be ruthless toward Qin Yu?
Song Xingci sneered, seemingly still forcing himself to maintain his confidence.
“Do not think that awakening a supernatural ability makes you so impressive. Once we return to Jing City, he will still be nothing more than a little bodyguard.”
As he spoke, he slightly raised his chin, displaying the superiority that came naturally to someone from an influential family.
“And I am the only heir to the Song family.”
He was reminding Qin Yu of their difference in status.
But Qin Yu did not even raise his eyelids. His gaze remained fixed on Wen Chu, simply waiting for her decision.
Wen Chu smiled.
“Everything you just said,” she slowly began, “what use is it in the apocalypse?”
“In the apocalypse, strength naturally comes first!”
She returned Song Xingci’s own words to him exactly as he had once said them.
Sure enough, Song Xingci was furious. The veins at his temples were practically throbbing.
“You are simply unreasonable! Is it really because I got together with someone else? How did you become like this?”
Wen Chu rolled her eyes.
“What nonsense are you talking about?”
Shen Chuman hurriedly reached out and patted Song Xingci’s chest, soothing him with a voice as soft as the spring breeze.
“Xingci, do not be angry. Do not upset yourself…”
Then she turned toward Wen Chu, her expression changing into one of pitiful innocence.
“Wen Chu, little sister… Ah, no, Miss Wen. You should not speak to Xingci like that. After all, he is your childhood neighbor and older brother.”
Wen Chu looked at her innocent face and wanted nothing more than to roll her eyes all the way into the sky.
Qin Yu was still looking at her.
He simply sat quietly in the driver’s seat, his calm gaze resting on her face as he waited for her decision.
Wen Chu suddenly felt a warmth in her heart.
Of course, she still had doubts about Qin Yu.
A person who had never appeared in the original novel, a bodyguard whose strength was unfathomable, could not possibly be someone she could trust without reservation.
But at this moment, being firmly chosen by someone felt really good.
Extremely good.
She simply hated Song Xingci.
The original owner’s death had happened amid the chaos, but judging from the traces at the scene, there was a very high chance that Song Xingci had pushed her.
She was using the original owner’s body. In a roundabout way, Song Xingci was her enemy.
If she were not planning to follow the male and female leads and use the storyline to make things more convenient for herself while picking up whatever benefits she could find…
She really wanted to kill the male lead.
Hmm?
Kill the male lead.
Wen Chu’s eyes lit up.
It seemed possible.
Seeing that the atmosphere was becoming tense, Song Shiyu hurriedly stepped in to smooth things over.
“All right, all right. Did we not come here to collect supplies? Stop arguing.
We have more important things to do.”
Song Xingci took a deep breath and barely suppressed his anger, restoring some of his leader-like composure.
“We will do as I said.”
Wen Chu raised an eyebrow.
“Then how are we dividing the supplies?”
Song Xingci said matter of factly, “Among all of us, only Chuman has a space. Otherwise, there is no way to collect that many supplies.”
Shen Chuman appropriately straightened her chest, a hint of provocation in her eyes as she glanced sideways at Wen Chu.
Wen Chu ignored her.
“So?”
Song Xingci spoke with certainty.
“Chuman and I will take half of the supplies we collect. You can divide the rest among yourselves. As for how you divide it, discuss it yourselves.”
Wen Chu let out a cold laugh.
“There are seven of us, and the two of you are taking half for yourselves?”
“Shen Chuman cannot do anything. She relies on others for protection the entire time. Your ability is only at the middle stage of level one. After using two lightning bolts in succession, you need to catch your breath for half a day. When we encounter a real battle, will you not still have to rely on me and Qin Yu?”
The more she spoke, the angrier she became.
“Besides, Brother Shiyu is your cousin. He Beichuan and Fan Jingshen are your childhood friends. We all grew up together. They may not have supernatural abilities, but they are responsible for providing support, keeping watch, and watching our rear from inside the vehicle. And you simply open your mouth and take half? How can you even have the nerve?”
Song Xingci was rendered speechless by her retort. His lips moved several times, but he could not say anything.
Shen Chuman bit her lip, and her eyes began to turn red again.
Wen Chu looked at her aggrieved expression, and that murderous intent rose in her heart once more.
She had completely lost all illusions about the female lead.
These two were seriously annoying.
The pharmaceutical factory was already right along this route, so she did not need them to lead the way.
She had her own space, her own supernatural ability, and her own driver.
Where could she not go?
Just as she was thinking this.
Qin Yu suddenly raised his hand beside her.
He lightly pointed with his fingertip.
A packet of tissues on the driver’s seat disappeared into thin air.
Then it appeared in his palm.
The vehicle fell silent for a moment.
Qin Yu turned his head and looked at Wen Chu. His tone remained calm, yet it carried a quiet sense of weight.
“Miss,” he said, “I just awakened a spatial ability. The space is three thousand cubic meters.”
Wen Chu froze.
It was actually the same size as Shen Chuman’s space.
Song Xingci and Shen Chuman both changed expressions at the same time in the back seat.
Beichuan was the first to react. He was so excited that he nearly jumped out of his seat.
“What the hell! Dual type? Qin Yu, you awakened dual type supernatural abilities?”
Song Shiyu also sat upright, his face filled with shock.
“Metal plus space… What kind of heavenly chosen combination is this?”
Qin Yu did not answer them.
He simply looked at Wen Chu.
“So,” he paused, “we do not need anyone else to help carry the supplies.”
Wen Chu looked at his expressionless face and suddenly smiled.
Her eyes curved into crescents.
“Did you hear that?”
She turned toward Song Xingci.
“We have a space now.”
She deliberately stretched out the last word, every syllable feeling like a needle stabbing into Song Xingci’s heart.
Song Xingci’s face darkened as he clenched his fists.
“Forty forty twenty. Chuman and I are forty. You and Qin Yu get forty. My cousin and the others are twenty.”
Wen Chu tilted her head, her smile sweet.
“In your dreams!”
Song Xingci took a deep breath, his temples throbbing.
“Then how do you want to divide it?”
As though he had suddenly thought of something, he said sternly, “You two cannot possibly take half either, can you?”
Wen Chu looked at him and answered decisively.
“Who said we are dividing it with you? We are going our separate ways.”
