Felix spent three full days lying in bed before he could barely move again.
He walked into the research lab on crutches and asked, “How’s it going, Jinx?” The lab looked completely different now.
The walls were covered in blue and red graffiti, the workbench had become chaotic and disorderly, and loud, energetic music was playing.
“You like it?
I gave your lab some life!” Jinx shouted proudly the moment she saw Felix arrive.
“Forget it.
How have you been these past couple days?” Felix smiled helplessly, then asked.
“Great.
No endless nagging from Mylo, and no fake comfort from Vi.” Jinx fiddled with a small bomb as she spoke, her tone casual.
“You miss them?” Felix heard the meaning beneath her words.
“I do not!
I’m Jinx.
I’m not that useless loser anymore.” She grew a little anxious.
“I’ll help you keep an eye on Vi.
I’ll help you get stronger too.
Trust me.” Felix knew exactly what Jinx was thinking, even if she stubbornly refused to say it.
Jinx threw her arms around Felix.
“Of course I trust you, Felix.
You’ve always encouraged me.” For a moment, she sounded a little sad.
Felix patted Jinx on the back.
“All right.
Next, I’ll teach you how to make bombs and firearms.
What kind of gun do you want?” “A machine gun!” “I thought you’d want a shotgun like mine.” “You people messed this up completely.
Useless, all of you!
Total dead weight!” Councilor Kiramman demanded angrily at the council meeting.
The Enforcers had gone to the Undercity to investigate, and not only had they lost a captain, they had only captured one kid.
“I apologize, Councilor, but the remaining criminals died in an explosion in the Undercity.
You know how it is.
The Undercity is full of accidents.” “I heard there was another riot in the Undercity a few days ago?” “Are the people down there trying to rebel?
It seems the war from several years ago still didn’t teach them a lesson.” A voice came from another corner of the council chamber.
The council had been meeting rather frequently these past few days, first because of Jayce, and now because of Zaun.
“Perhaps we can use force to tell them what they should do.” “No.
War cannot solve this problem!” Heimerdinger stood up on his chair, visibly agitated.
“Then what do you suggest?
First they caused an explosion in Piltover, then they killed one of our Enforcer captains.
Perhaps they need another painful lesson.” “War will only create greater sacrifices.” A trace of pity flashed through Heimerdinger’s eyes.
“I agree with Councilor Heimerdinger,” Councilor Medarda said.
“But we must also uphold Piltover’s dignity.
I propose adding another squad of Enforcers to maintain order in the Undercity until it calms down.” “I support Councilor Medarda’s proposal.” Before long, seven beams of light shone through the windows into the council chamber.
The proposal passed.
After resting for nearly two full weeks, Felix’s body had recovered quite a bit.
He looked at the Piltover Enforcers moving freely outside the window and said, “The people from up top are getting even more excessive.
Don’t you think, Jinx?” Jinx was currently fiddling with the light machine gun she and Felix had made together.
“Pew, pew, pew.
We can let them have a taste of this.” She could barely put the weapon down.
“Don’t rush, Jinx.
The last explosion wiped out our stockpile of Shimmer, and it also took out our only researcher.
Now isn’t the time to start a war.
We need to wait.” As Felix spoke with Jinx, the red light by the door suddenly came on.
“Looks like we won’t be bored anymore.” Felix had designed that communicator himself so he could keep in touch with Silco more easily.
Most of the time, Felix preferred staying home and working on his research.
He brought Jinx with him toward Silco’s office, telling her a few interesting things along the way.
“What is it, Silco?
Some kind of trouble?” Felix asked as he pushed open the door to Silco’s office.
Silco was lighting a cigar.
“Nothing much.
It’s just that the Chem-Barons are very unhappy with the commotion we’ve caused over the past two days.
They’ve forgotten I once saved them.
All they see now is profit.” “You have to clean house before dealing with outside enemies.
I told you that before.” Felix shrugged helplessly.
“You were right.
Vander is dead, and Benzo doesn’t have enough leadership to hold things together.
Those damned barons still want to pour fuel on the fire.
This time, you’ll go in my name.
Give them a warning.” “Got it,” Felix replied.
“Tomorrow afternoon at two, the council hall in upper Zaun.
They’ll hold a meeting there.
Don’t kill all of them,” Silco reminded him.
“Relax.” With that, Felix left with Jinx.
“Jinx, this is the first mission I’m bringing you on.
Make sure you learn properly.” Felix toyed with his pistol.
“Ugh!
You talk too much!” Jinx made a face at Felix, then ducked back into the research lab.
“Wake up, wake up!” Felix slowly opened his eyes and glanced at Jinx, who was hanging upside down from the ceiling beams.
He turned over.
“Stop messing around.
Let me sleep a little longer, oh!” The moment Felix finished speaking, Jinx dropped straight down from the beam and sat on top of him.
“I already said it’s time to get up.” Felix pushed Jinx away.
“Fine, fine.
I give up, okay?
What time is it?” Jinx tossed him a wristwatch.
It was already ten o’clock.
“Eat something, then get ready to work.” Felix put the watch away.
“Yes, sir!” Jinx said, a little excited.
Inside the council hall.
“Piltover has tightened control over the Undercity, and it’s had a huge impact on our business.
This is all Silco’s fault,” Finn spoke first, setting the tone for the meeting.
“My business has also been affected.
How about we put in some effort too and help the people up top stabilize the situation in Zaun so they can leave sooner?
I’d be willing to take the lead,” Renni said tentatively.
“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re trying to do.
You can get involved in the Lanes, but you can’t be the only one getting involved.
Vander is dead now.
That place is a massive piece of the pie.” “Oh, am I interrupting your little chat, dear barons?” Felix pushed the door open and walked in.
At the same time, the bodyguards at the door slowly collapsed, each with a bullet hole in the forehead.
“It was you, right?
You wanted a slice of the Lanes?” Felix walked up to Renni, sat down on the table, and spoke slowly.
“Are you even qualified?” A few drops of cold sweat rolled down Renni’s face, but she still forced herself to remain calm.
