On Progress Day, Caitlyn was a little excited.
Or rather, every Piltover citizen was excited.
The annual Progress Day was Piltover’s grand celebration, like Christmas and New Year’s rolled into one.
Vendors had already divided up their spots along the streets, and all of Piltover was painted with joy.
Everyone was ready to celebrate Progress Day.
Jayce had recently created the Hexgates.
As Jayce’s friend, Caitlyn was sincerely happy for him.
From an academy member who had nearly been expelled, he had suddenly become Piltover’s rising star.
Her own situation, however, was not so good.
Her mother did not want her to become an Enforcer, and for now, she still did not have the ability to defy her parents’ orders.
She strolled through Piltover’s streets, shook her head, and decided to push those unhappy thoughts aside.
But when she reached the front of the council hall, she suddenly noticed something was wrong.
She could vaguely see some footprints on the council building.
Although she was not completely certain, and she could not see them clearly, her instincts had always been sharp.
She walked straight toward the council hall, wanting to confirm her suspicions.
“Sorry, miss.
No unauthorized personnel beyond this point.” The dutiful guard stopped Caitlyn outside the door.
“Someone may have broken into the council hall.
I need to inspect it,” Caitlyn said anxiously.
“Our security is excellent.
You don’t need to worry.” The guard glanced at Caitlyn, then spoke calmly.
“But…” Caitlyn tried to argue, but in the end, she stomped her foot and left the front entrance.
Next, she planned to investigate in her own way.
“Jinx, are the fireworks for tonight ready?” Felix asked Jinx while straightening his outfit.
“All ready!
I can’t wait!” Jinx was excited.
“I’m going to give Piltover a massive fireworks show!” “It’s time to raise the curtain on the war between Piltover and Zaun.” Felix finished adjusting his tie and spoke calmly.
From his conversations with Silco, he already knew that Silco’s preparations were almost complete.
All they needed now was an opportunity.
The reason Zaun became Zaun was not only because of the biochemical leak that occurred when the two cities were first founded.
Piltover’s sewage discharge, waste dumping, and other actions had also turned Zaun into a sewer in every sense of the word.
Night fell.
Piltover was especially noisy tonight.
The lively atmosphere had reached its peak.
Most people had gathered in the central plaza, and as usual, this year’s Progress Day speech would be delivered by Council Head Heimerdinger, the Father of Piltover.
“It is a great honor that this year’s Progress Day speech is once again mine to deliver.” Heimerdinger walked out from backstage with short little steps.
Because of his height, he needed to stand on a chair.
After some effort, Heimerdinger stood on a chair nearly as tall as himself and began today’s speech.
“…However, Piltover’s future lies with its young people.
The Hexgates were invented by two young men from our academy, Jayce and Viktor.
Let us applaud their innovation.” “Piltover has always been the City of Progress.
I have always firmly believed that as long as everyone keeps a spirit of exploration and a heart for the people, Piltover’s flame of innovation will continue forever.
Thank you, everyone!” As Heimerdinger finished his speech and jumped down from the chair, fierce applause erupted from below the stage.
Suddenly, all the curtain lights went out.
A young man’s voice came through the speakers.
“Let us thank Professor Heimerdinger for his speech.
Next, please give the stage to us.” “Let’s enjoy Progress Day!
Hahahaha!” Then came Jinx’s laughter.
The accompaniment slowly began to play, only for the sound to suddenly pause.
The lyrics invited the crowd to come play, then cheerfully warned that she might shoot them in the face.
“What’s going on?
Who arranged this program?” Backstage was now a mess.
Everyone had been frightened by this sudden accident.
Meanwhile, in the control room, the original staff lay scattered across the floor.
The sound engineer’s name was now Jinx.
Below the stage, whether it was the audience, the councilors, or even Professor Heimerdinger, everyone thought this was a show designed by the backstage team.
Some even felt it had been arranged rather well.
At that moment, Caitlyn finally slipped into the council hall while its defenses were at their weakest.
She caught the faint traces Jinx had left behind and searched carefully.
Jinx’s voice grew higher and higher.
She sank all her focus into the song.
The next lines carried the feeling of being ignored, then dared the listener to try harder because she was getting bored.
Below the stage, a pink-haired girl’s body trembled slightly.
She had a constitution different from ordinary people.
Although she had been born in Piltover, both of her parents were from Zaun.
She could hear other people’s souls through every person’s voice.
She could hear the repression and madness behind this song.
As the singing gradually grew more intense, the audience below the stage also raised whatever lights they could and began swaying to the beat.
The chorus pushed the crowd to shoot faster and bring just a little more energy.
As the music reached its climax, the entire venue boiled over.
Only Seraphine heard the madness contained within the song, and it made her uneasy.
On the other side, Caitlyn had actually followed the traces all the way to the place where the bomb was hidden.
She began inspecting it and discovered that it was a timed bundle of explosives.
She did not dare act rashly.
There were less than three minutes left before the bomb exploded.
She tried to understand the bomb’s structure.
However, this bomb had been made by Felix, who had inherited a certain amount of Ziggs’s experience and talent, and Jinx, who already had an exceptional gift for making explosives.
Even if Ziggs himself came here, he might not be able to defuse it within three minutes.
After failing to make progress, Caitlyn made a decision, evacuate everyone.
In truth, aside from the guards at the entrance, there were not many people inside the council hall.
But to be safe, she still moved through the council building as fast as she could, shouting for people to leave and take shelter.
Only in the final minute did she exit the council building, bringing the guards away with her as well.
Meanwhile, the performance on the other side had reached its end.
As the accompaniment slowly quieted, thunderous applause filled the entire venue.
It seemed they had really liked this song that stirred up their emotions.
Then the lights suddenly came on.
In the center of the lights, Felix was slowly walking onto the stage.
“I’m honored that everyone enjoyed the song we brought you, and I’m very happy to spend Progress Day with all of you on an occasion like this.” Felix picked up the microphone and looked around.
The councilors below the stage had already begun to vaguely sense that something was wrong.
Councilor Kiramman had already stood up and started questioning the event organizers about the program.
