Mo Feixi would never have anticipated that he would utter such a protective statement shielding someone so fiercely and even more so, that these words would be spoken because of this very Long Huayan.
For a moment, he felt a sense of panic, an empty void in his heart, as if something very, very important to him had been lost or forgotten. He desperately wanted to do something, yet in the end, he realized he could do nothing at all, left standing there in a daze.
Especially with the louder crying of Long Huayan ringing in his ears, his already hollow chest began to ache with a tight, gripping pain.
Such emotions and psychological shifts were things he had never experienced, not even when facing Musui. His temperament had always been cold and detached, with only Musui capable of eliciting different emotional changes in him.
Toward Musui, his feelings encompassed pity, tender affection, appreciation, fondness, and deep care and value. Yet when all those sentiments were added together, they still fell short of the wrenching palpitations and hollow ache echoing in his heart right now.
He didn’t know what could possibly fill this bizarre yet agonizing void.
He could only—could only gaze blankly and listlessly toward Su Chishang and Bu Liuliqing.
Witnessing him in this state, Su Chishang kept a close eye on him; there was something rather strange about this person, and it seemed something truly had gone wrong.
As for Bu Liuliqing, looking at that blank expression of his was enough to make anyone anxious.
“What are you standing there like a fool for? Go comfort him; coax him.” Bu Liuliqing could no longer bear to watch. Coupled with the fact that the brat Long Huayan was crying louder and louder, his ears were beginning to ring.
Therefore, this Mo Feixi had to take action.
You have to comfort your own cub yourself; standing there staring blankly like that looked utterly ridiculous.
Don’t assume that just because Long Huayan was grown up now he didn’t need comforting. Men can be even more unreasonable and exhausting to deal with than women when they throw a tantrum. As a dyed-in-the-wool straight man, Bu Liuliqing harbored no self-awareness about his own biases.
Stepping right up to Mo Feixi, he gave him a firm pat on the shoulder followed by a push. At this moment, the flustered and dazed man couldn’t summon a single ounce of defense.
When Mo Feixi stumbled and steadied himself, he found that he was already standing right in front of Long Huayan. Looking down at the young man who was buried in his knees weeping heavily at his feet, the more he looked, the stronger a certain impulse welled up inside him an urgent desire to pull him into his arms and properly shelter and cherish him.
Mo Feixi knew he was not a promiscuous person, and he was even clearer that his current emotional shift toward Long Huayan wasn’t born of romantic love, but rather seemed to stem from another profound bond of destiny, compelling him… to want to coax him.
Long Huayan naturally sensed Mo Feixi’s approach. When he raised his head and gazed at the tall, upright figure standing before him, his eyes made contact with Mo Feixi’s face, particularly those eyes.
It was like it was just like looking into his own eyes, they were so similar.
His old dad had once said that out of all their features, the part of him that resembled this person the most was his eyes. He didn’t know why this person was acting this way now, but those eyes were truly, genuinely alike.
Could it be that he had been too caught up in the situation before to notice this detail, or was it because all his attention back then had been focused entirely on Lan Musui?
That was why he had overlooked these eyes. As he stared, Long Huayan though shielded from the torrential downpour found his face completely streaked with a fresh flood of tears, which spilled over uncontrollably.
Just as Long Huayan subsided into whimpering sobs instead of wailing loudly making it all the more heartbreaking he was suddenly pulled into an embrace.
Even though wetness soaked through their clothes, it could not block the surging, boiling passion driven by their shared bloodline. This was an embrace he had longed for through a very, very long time. Yet no matter how long it took, he and his old dad had never given up waiting, solely because this person had once made a promise.
He had promised that no matter what, he would find every possible way to return. How could he bear to abandon them? They were his most precious people, and because of that promise, he and his old dad had waited and waited…
“How could you not recognize me? How could you bear to hurt me? How could you bear to…” If they truly shared a bloodline connection, why couldn’t this person recognize him? He had even used his own methods to prove this person’s identity, so why couldn’t this person recognize him?
It shouldn’t be like this! He was this person’s biological descendant; this person should have sensed him first. Why couldn’t he recognize him? Why?!
All of Long Huayan’s pent-up grievances ultimately transformed into these accusatory questions.
Every single word, laced with sobs and boundless grievance, hammered heavily against the core of Mo Feixi’s heart, until finally, Mo Feixi’s own eye sockets grew red and stung with hot emotion.
