Once only Roy and Professor X remained in the office, Professor X looked at him kindly and slowly asked, “Have you settled into life at the school over the past few years?” “More or less.” Roy replied.
“Although he had only transmigrated into this world today, the original owner of this body had already been living at the school for several years.” “That’s good.
If there’s ever anything you have trouble adjusting to, you can always come talk to me.” Professor X continued.
On the surface, Professor X appeared to be asking nothing more than whether Roy had settled into life at the school.
But Roy knew that absolutely wasn’t his real purpose.
For one thing, the system had just warned him that Professor X had attempted to use telepathy on him.
And even without that warning, the fact that Professor X had asked Storm and Cyclops to leave the office made it obvious that he had something else in mind.
If all Professor X wanted to know was whether Roy had adjusted to school life, there would have been no reason to send the two of them outside.
“Okay.” Although Roy had already guessed that Professor X had another purpose, he pretended not to know anything since the professor hadn’t brought it up himself.
He answered calmly.
Seeing that Roy was even more composed than expected, Professor X suddenly felt that the boy seemed somewhat different from before.
The old Roy hadn’t been especially introverted or shy, but whenever he faced Professor X, Storm, or the others, he had never been this calm and collected.
More importantly, Roy had only just injured Morgan.
Under these circumstances, being summoned to the headmaster’s office should have made him at least somewhat nervous or agitated.
After studying Roy for several seconds, Professor X decided to get straight to the point.
“Has your X-gene undergone a secondary awakening and given you a new ability?” A secondary awakening?
Hearing the question, Roy froze for a moment.
Then he quickly understood.
Under normal circumstances, the powers a mutant developed during their initial awakening were the full extent of their abilities.
But there were exceptions.
A secondary awakening was one of them.
Simply put, it referred to a mutant developing a new power after their original ability had already awakened.
More importantly, the power obtained from a secondary awakening did not necessarily have any connection to the original ability.
Unlike an initial awakening, which could occur simply because someone possessed the X-gene, secondary awakenings were extremely rare.
Roy had previously been wondering how he should explain the powers of the Fish-Fish Fruit, Mythical Zoan, Model: Azure Dragon.
Now, after hearing Professor X’s question, he unexpectedly realized that a secondary awakening would make an excellent excuse.
“Yeah.” Roy didn’t elaborate.
He simply nodded.
It really was a secondary awakening?
Although Professor X had been the one to bring up the possibility, he hadn’t actually expected Roy to confirm it.
Was that why his Blazing Heat had surpassed its previous three-minute limit?
Professor X looked at Roy and began speculating.
“Would you mind telling me what kind of ability you gained from your secondary awakening?” Professor X asked politely.
Although he was the headmaster of the mutant school, he wasn’t the kind of authority figure who looked down on students and ordered them around.
More importantly, he respected his students’ privacy.
Otherwise, with his abilities, practically nothing that happened inside the school could have been kept from him.
“It’s a transformation-type ability.” Roy answered calmly.
“A transformation-type ability?” “I see.” Roy hadn’t explained exactly what kind of transformation ability it was, but that was already enough for Professor X.
Transformation-type and physical enhancement-type mutant abilities were not exactly the same, but they had plenty of similarities.
Colossus, Peter, was a good example.
His mutant ability fell somewhere between transformation and physical enhancement.
Unlike Morgan, whose body remained permanently enhanced, Peter wasn’t constantly operating at the peak of his power.
At the same time, his transformation was different from most transformation-type abilities because it didn’t fundamentally alter his original appearance or body shape.
Even without transforming, Colossus possessed strength beyond that of an ordinary person.
But only after transforming could he fully unleash the power of his mutant ability.
Both the secondary awakening and the transformation-type ability were merely excuses Roy had come up with to explain the Fish-Fish Fruit, Mythical Zoan, Model: Azure Dragon.
Yet after hearing Roy “admit” it himself, Professor X mentally filled in the rest of the gaps.
Roy had developed a new transformation-type power through a secondary awakening, which was why his original Blazing Heat ability had broken through its three-minute limit.
Likewise, because he had developed a new power, Professor X’s telepathy could no longer lock onto him.
It might not have seemed particularly scientific.
But when mutant abilities were involved, things that defied science were practically the norm.
If every mutant power followed conventional scientific logic, that would be far stranger.
“Not many mutants experience a secondary awakening.
If you have any questions about your new ability, you can look for books on secondary X-gene mutations in the library.” “As for the dispute between you and Morgan, let it end here.” “You’ve already vented your anger.
After being defeated by you in front of everyone, Morgan probably won’t trouble you again.” Professor X looked at Roy with a kindly expression.
“Okay.” Roy answered calmly.
“Oh, and if you’re interested in close combat, you can talk to Logan when he gets back.” Professor X smiled.
“Sure.” Roy agreed without hesitation.
Among the current X-Men, Wolverine Logan was undoubtedly the most skilled in close combat.
More precisely, he was currently the only true close-combat specialist on the team.
Storm, Cyclops, and Phoenix all specialized in medium- to long-range attacks using their abilities.
“All right.
That’s everything.
You can go now.” “Okay, Professor.” With that, Roy stood up and left the office.
The moment he opened the door, he saw Storm and Cyclops still standing outside.
After glancing at him, the two of them entered the office and closed the door behind them again.
The dormitory.
Following the memories in his mind, Roy returned to the room where he lived.
Although this place functioned as a school, it wasn’t quite the same as a conventional school.
The classrooms, dormitories, library, and cafeteria had all been converted from rooms that originally served other purposes.
This had once been Professor X’s family estate, so even after extensive renovations, there were still certain limitations.
For example, there simply weren’t enough rooms in the mansion to give every student a private bedroom.
Aside from the teachers, most students shared rooms with one or two others.
When Roy returned to the dormitory, he saw his roommate.
Colossus!
The person sharing a room with him was none other than Colossus, who had already developed an impressively muscular physique despite his young age.
“You’re back.
Did the Professor punish you?” The moment Roy entered, Colossus looked at him with obvious curiosity, eager for gossip.
“Of course not.
The Professor just asked me a few questions.” Roy smiled.
“That’s a shame.” Colossus shook his head.
A shame?
Roy gave him a puzzled look.
“You know something?” “Since the school was founded, you’re the first—and only—student to ever break another student’s rib.” “Barring anything unexpected, you’re probably going to hold that record for a very long time.” Colossus grinned.
