【I’m home.】

It was a simple, almost formal sentence, yet Cheng Lin felt an inexplicable warmth flow through her heart as she read it.

Completely satisfied, she replied: “Okay, then get some rest early. Good night.”

After sending the message, she waited for about a minute, but there was no response.

Could the signal in the dormitory be bad?

Back when they first started as freshmen, because the building was newly constructed, the network infrastructure was severely lacking—often they couldn’t even make phone calls, let alone use the internet.

But things were different now; it had been a long, long time since she’d experienced a lack of signal.

The signal was at full bars. Still, she instinctively stretched her phone out a little and gently waved it in the air.

Still no message.

Could her phone be broken?

Although it wasn’t the best phone, it was decent enough—and most importantly, she’d only gotten this new phone a few months ago. A malfunction shouldn’t be possible.

That left only one possibility: he hadn’t replied.

Maybe he’d already fallen asleep.

Thinking this way, she simply put her phone aside, pulled up her blanket, closed her eyes, and prepared to sleep.

But then—whether it was ten minutes, twenty minutes, or even longer—

She suddenly felt a vibration. She had been drifting into a drowsy haze, and it startled her awake.

Her eyes snapped open. Only the dim glow of the streetlights outside filtered through the window.

And the light from her phone in front of her was also lit.

Only then did she realize—someone had sent her a message.

She instinctively opened her phone and saw his reply.

【Mm, good night.】

Warmth filled her heart. She figured he must have been busy earlier and had put down his phone without replying. But with her mind at ease, she fell into an even deeper, more peaceful sleep.

…

On his end, Fu Siyu arrived home at just past 11 o’clock.

He had just stepped into the bedroom and was about to head into the shower when he suddenly remembered what that little woman had said.

He fished out his phone and sent her a message—she’d asked him to let her know he was safe, so he’d tell her, and also tell her to get some sleep early. After all, she had school the next day.

After sending the message, he went straight to take a shower. When he came back, he saw another message on his phone.

He opened it, then tossed the phone onto the bed and picked up a towel to dry his hair.

But then something occurred to him, and he picked up the phone again to send her a reply.

Only then did he dry his hair properly and settle into bed to rest.

Lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, he tossed and turned many times, but no matter what, he couldn’t fall asleep.

Suddenly, a scene flashed through his mind.

“Hey, you bumped into me.”

“As compensation, you should drive me to school first.”

“Thank you for bringing me back…”

He didn’t know why, but suddenly all these memories of that little girl surfaced—along with her face.

Everything about her, whether it was the way she gestured when she spoke or the tone of her voice, appeared vividly in his mind.

It was truly unbelievable.

Was he going crazy?

It must be… it must be because he hadn’t been around women for too long.

Thinking and thinking, he pulled the blanket up over his head, trying to stop himself from dwelling on it.

He couldn’t remember how he had eventually fallen asleep.

All he remembered was that he slept in a daze, and when he opened his eyes and woke up, he picked up his phone to check the time—it was already past ten in the morning.

He noticed there was an unread message.
