Sheng Lianjue had no choice but to take one of his own shirts and help her change into it.
Over the past month, she had lost even more weight.
The moment he picked her up, it felt as if he were holding a weightless piece of paper.
Sheng Lianjue immediately contacted the family doctor. It wasn’t until late at night when the doctor arrived and gave Jiang Wan a fever-reducing injection that her condition gradually improved.
“When will she likely wake up?”
“Madam’s health is not optimistic; she is extremely weak. It would be best to go to the hospital for a detailed examination to determine the exact cause. Make sure she gets plenty of rest these next few days.”
“Mm.”
Jiang Wan was ill throughout the night.
She dreamed she was trapped in a prison, unable to escape no matter how hard she tried.
Confined in endless darkness.
When she finally managed to break free, she found herself facing another cliff instead.
Jiang Wan woke up at noon to see a maid with an unfamiliar face holding a bowl of porridge. “Madam, you’re awake? Sir instructed that you drink this bowl of porridge and take this medicine.”
Jiang Wan pushed back the covers and realized she was wearing Sheng Lianjue’s shirt. “Where are my clothes?”
Having been caught in the rain yesterday and waiting for three or four hours in the wind, her voice was somewhat hoarse.
“Sir ordered those clothes to be thrown away because they were too old.”
No matter how tattered or worn, those were her belongings.
What right did he have to dispose of them without her permission?
Jiang Wan felt a surge of anger welling up in her chest. “Then, please bring me a new set of clothes. Thank you.”
Her polite words surprised the maid.
Which mistress would speak so courteously to a servant?
The maid quickly brought a new set of clothes, all in styles Jiang Wan used to wear.
After changing, Jiang Wan headed out the door, but the maid hurriedly said, “Madam, Sir said you’re not allowed to go anywhere.”
Jiang Wan paid no attention to this, though she felt slightly dizzy. It didn’t seem serious. When she reached the main hall, she saw a group of people bustling about.
The spacious hall was filled with all kinds of new clothes, shoes, bags…
A woman in professional attire, around thirty or forty years old, approached. She wore a pair of white gloves and flashed a standardized smile. “Madam, hello. I am the high-end private customization manager of the Dali’er brand. As per Mr. Sheng’s request, could you please take a look at these garments and see if they meet your satisfaction?”
“If there’s anything you’re not satisfied with, we can replace them at any time or make adjustments.”
Before Jiang Wan could respond, the manager quickly produced a black velvet box. Opening it, she revealed a blood-red diamond necklace inside. “This is the largest red gemstone in the world to date, and the only one of its kind. It was personally designed by our company’s designer, Aiville. Madam… would you like to see if you like the style?”
The living room was filled with dazzling items, enough to overwhelm anyone. No woman could see them without feeling tempted.
These were things Jiang Wan couldn’t afford in several lifetimes.
Jiang Wan’s gaze was vacant, and she spoke calmly, “He and I are already divorced. There’s no need to ask me.” With that, Jiang Wan walked out.
The manager stared in astonishment at Jiang Wan’s departing figure. “Ah, this…”
As Jiang Wan left Junlin Mansion, she happened to see a delivery driver about to leave and hitched a ride with him.
With Jiang Wan gone, the manager didn’t know who to give these items to.
So, she quickly contacted Sheng Lianjue.
Shengshi Group—Sheng Lianjue set down the pen in his hand, answering the phone with one hand while pinching the bridge of his nose with the other. “I understand. Deliver the items according to her usual habits and bring them into the room.”
After the call ended, he hung up.
Just then, Jiang Lan walked in, holding a cup of hand-ground coffee, and silently placed it on his desk.
Was she treating his words as nothing more than empty noise?
Perhaps due to the guilt from last time, Sheng Lianjue had been more patient with her than before, trying to coax her along.
But that didn’t mean she could keep pushing her limits indefinitely.
Jiang Lan walked behind him, her slender fingers resting on his shoulders as she gently massaged them. “During the meeting today, I noticed you seemed distracted. Are you still troubled about Jiang Wan?”
Sheng Lianjue’s expression turned cold. “During work hours, Assistant Jiang, do you not understand what you should be doing?”
Jiang Lan’s hands paused, her face instantly looking somewhat displeased. “I just wanted to help you relax since you seemed uncomfortable.”
Sheng Lianjue reopened a file. “Such matters are not your responsibility. Don’t overstep your boundaries.”
Jiang Lan’s movements halted briefly, a strained smile tugging at the corner of her lips. “Alright.”
“Leave.”
Jiang Lan left dejectedly, gently closing the door behind her.
Sheng Lianjue picked up his phone and called Jiang Wan, but the call was declined.
Frowning, he sent her a message: “Regarding your older brother’s matter, if you want to settle it, come to the company to talk. My patience is limited, so don’t push your luck, Jiang Wan.”
