Jeanette sucked in a sharp breath as Reyna stared at the man with wide eyes.

A buzzing sound filled Reyna’s ears as her legs trembled.

Her son was in the Kingdom of Goden?Full novel: Of Regret and Redemption — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She had to have misheard him.

There was no way that was possible.

No one knew about her past.

Jeanette and her family had made sure to cover it up so as not to draw suspicion, and it had been five years.

Five years should have been enough time to erase any traces.

Even if someone did somehow find out, why target her son?

Her legs finally gave out from beneath her, and Reyna shifted the entirety of her weight against Jeanette.

Jeanette guided her back to the chair to sit down as Reyna placed a hand on her head.

“Hold on.

Are you sure the kid’s there?” the person next to the man asked.

“Of course I’m sure.

My magic is never wrong,” the man said.

“Don’t you think that it’s a bit outrageous?

The kid has only been missing for a few hours.

How could he have already ended up in the Kingdom of Goden?” the person demanded.

As soon as those words left the person’s mouth, Reyna sat up straight, nearly hitting Jeanette by her side.

Reyna’s eyes widened at the realization.

How could she have forgotten such an important detail?

Under normal circumstances, driving one hundred miles in just a few hours was possible.

However, these weren’t normal circumstances.

This was crossing the border between two enemy countries.

Not to mention, the terrain didn’t make it easy.

There was no way the people who took her son could travel that far in such a short period of time.

The man must have made a mistake.

“Sorry, but my magic is never wrong.

I suspect it was an inside job or at least planned in advance to smuggle the kid out of the country,” the man said.

Chills shot down her spine as the person said, “Why would anyone want to plan a kidnapping of a random child from another country?

It would be one thing if it were some big shot, but it’s just a regular kid.

They gain nothing by wasting resources on taking him.” “That’s what I want to know too.

What’s your connection with the Kingdom of Goden?” the man asked, his sharp eyes burning holes into Reyna.

Jeanette immediately stepped in front of Reyna to shield her and demanded, “What nonsense are you talking about?” The man cocked his head to one side as he said, “Am I?

Then why would her son be taken to the enemy country and done with such efficiency that they didn’t even leave a trace?

If it weren’t for my blood magic, the police might have never found him in this lifetime.” Reyna felt sick to her stomach, like she was about to hurl.

If what he was saying was true, then she could have really lost her son forever.

She had to tell the truth even if it meant being detained.

She stood up, about to admit her identity when her phone rang.

Startled, she pulled it out of her pocket and saw it was from Waylon.

After giving everyone a brief glance, she answered it.

“Hey, any luck on your end?” Waylon asked.

Before she could answer, Jeanette took the phone and said, “We’re working on it.

What about you?” Waylon sighed before saying, “They’re still working on it, but they haven’t found any clue so far.

We had hoped you found something.” “Keep looking,” Jeanette said as she was about to hang up the phone.

Reyna stopped her in time and took the phone back before saying, “Actually, we are talking with the freelancer right now.” “What did they say?” Waylon asked.

She only hesitated for a moment before saying, “He claims that Phoenix is in the Kingdom of Goden.” There was silence on the other end.

She shifted anxiously, looking between the phone and the people in the room.

Jeanette had a troubled expression while the other two were waiting patiently.

Then Waylon’s voice came through from the other end as he asked, “Seriously?” Reyna nodded before remembering that he couldn’t see her and said, “Yes.” He fell silent again.

She strained her ears, wondering if maybe he had hung the phone up by accident.

Then she heard something in the background like someone was struggling before finally hearing someone speak.

It was Seamus as he said, “Put Jeanette on the phone, please.” She followed his instructions and handed the phone back to Jeanette.

Jeanette calmly accepted the phone and placed it against her ear.

Even though they were standing right next to each other, Reyna couldn’t hear what was being said on the other end.

She can only make guesses based on the few words Jeanette spoke.

Once the conversation finished, instead of handing it over right away, Jeanette hung up the phone.

Reyna wanted to ask her what they had talked about when Jeanette cut her off before she could say a word and said, “My husband says he’s on the way and wants to discuss the results.

You don’t mind that, do you?” Jeanette and the man stared at each other for a long time, leaving the other two to glance anxiously from the sidelines.

Reyna clasped her hands together, praying that nothing bad would happen.

The man finally broke the standoff, shrugging his shoulders as he said, “That’s fine with me.

It’s not my kid.

I’ll be taking my leave now.” This caught the person at his side’s attention as she demanded, “Wait.

Are you just going to leave?” “Why not?

I did my job here.

There’s nothing left for me to do here,” he said as he headed for the door.

The person chased after him, saying, “Hold it.

You can’t just leave like that.

Didn’t you say that she might have a connection with the Kingdom of Goden, our enemy?” They continued to discuss this matter as they left, leaving the two women alone in the room.

Reyna stared at the closed door before falling back into the chair.

What were they going to do now?
