Reyna tensed, refusing to look back.

She wanted to believe that he wasn’t talking to them, but she could unfortunately hear his footsteps coming towards them.

Waylon wrapped an arm around Reyna’s shoulders as he guided her out the door.Full novel: Of Regret and Redemption — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Seamus did the same with Jeanette.

They didn’t get very far when she felt something tug at her sleeve.

She glanced down and screamed when she saw what looked like a red thread clinging to her clothes.

Waylon immediately asked, “What’s wrong?” He didn’t wait for a response as he instantly saw what made her scream.

His face hardened as he grabbed the red thing and tugged it off of Reyna’s clothes.

Holding it in his hand, he turned to glare at the source.

The man didn’t even flinch at the glares directed at him and said, “I told you to wait.” “We’re going to report you for harassment,” Seamus threatened, smoke emitting from his eyes.

“Go ahead, but if you do, then I’ll report you,” he said.

“Report us for what?” Waylon demanded, shielding Reyna from the man’s sight.

“Do you really want me to say it out loud in front of the police station?” the man asked.

Reyna felt the blood draining from her face at the implication as Jeanette snapped, “Trying to blackmail us with lies?

You’re only making it worse for yourself.” “I’m not lying, and we all know it.

We can go back into the police station to confirm it,” he said as if he were truly confident that he was right.

He had to be referring to Reyna being from the Kingdom of Goden.

How was he so confident that she was from there?

Was it simply because of her son’s kidnapping?

Recalling his reaction when they first met, she knew that wasn’t it.

He had already suspected her then.

What could it be?

Both sides stared at each other, neither side willing to stand down when someone shouted, “Holmes, where are you?” When the man frowned and looked back at the police station, Reyna remembered that Holmes was the man’s name.

The rest of the group didn’t hesitate to lead her away from the man who looked like he wanted to chase after her but was called again.

“You know where to find me if you want to talk,” he said before heading back into the station.

“Who would want to talk to you?” Waylon muttered darkly.

She patted his arm and said, “Thank you for defending me.

You’ve really grown into an upright man.” He instantly looked away as he pulled his arm away and muttered, “Thanks.” When they arrived at the parked cars, Jeanette said, “Let’s return back to the house to talk.” Seamus nodded before they broke into the same two groups.

Reyna settled into the passenger seat while Jeanette started the car.

It was only after the car drove away from the station that Reyna asked, “What’s the plan?” “We should wait until we are back at the house,” Jeanette said without taking her eyes off the road.

Reyna didn’t protest, trusting that Jeanette had a good reason for it.

Instead, she looked out the window as she thought about her son.

Her fingers fidgeted as she prayed that her son was safe.

If the kidnappers could spend the time and resources to bring him into another country, they wouldn’t harm him, or at least she hoped they wouldn’t.

She still couldn’t figure out why they took him.

What did they hope to gain?

If it was blackmail, then they chose the wrong person.

She had nothing worthwhile to give them.

She wasn’t some kind of influential or powerful person.

She didn’t even have wealth for them to demand.

She leaned her head against the window, feeling the glass press against her skin.

Eyes studied the scenery as it passed them by, and she took note of the advertisements being displayed.

One was an ad for a drama series that she didn’t know anything about that displayed a large family.

Reyna wondered if they were perhaps doing it so they could get to the Hurst family.

The idea was quickly discarded.

The Hurst family was definitely well off and had some influence given their jobs, but they had no connection to the Kingdom of Goden.

Taking him there would be pointless.

She had to be missing something.

Soon they arrived at the house, and the group got out of their respective cars.

Just as Reyna stepped out onto the pavement, a thought struck her.

She had been thinking about the wrong family.

Rather than the Hurst family, maybe the kidnappers’ target was the Villegas family.

It made complete sense why they would drag him to the Kingdom of Goden.

They wanted to blackmail Phoenix’s father, the head of the family.

However, there was still something that she couldn’t figure out.

If their target was really the Villegas family, how did they figure out Phoenix was related to them?

“Reyna, are you coming?” Jeanette asked as she shot Reyna a concerned look.

“I’m coming,” she said, hurrying after Jeanette.

Once the group settled inside Seamus’ office, Seamus used his magic to ensure the place was secured.

Now no one could get in or listen in to their conversation.

With that settled, Seamus asked Reyna, “Have you ever met that man before?” It wasn’t hard to figure out who he was talking about, and she shook her head, saying, “No.

It’s the first time I’ve seen him.” “I thought so, but I needed to confirm it from your own mouth,” Seamus said, crossing his arms.

“What does this mean, Dad?” Waylon asked.

With a grim expression, Seamus said, “It means that Reyna’s identity might have been leaked.” Even though Reyna didn’t want to believe it, she had suspected that this might be the case.

While she wasn’t certain how it happened, somehow someone figured out she was from the Kingdom of Goden and bore the Villegas family heir.

It was the only explanation for targeting her son and bringing him back to the kingdom.

“Are you sure, Dad?” Waylon asked, shooting a sidelong glance at Reyna.

“I’m having my people look into it, but it seems to be the case,” Seamus said solemnly.

Steeling her nerves, Reyna met Seamus’ gaze and asked, “What should we do?”
