A Leap

“Put me down.” Lanrod’s…

Kerry’s fingers trembled. He looked at Lanrod opposite him, his lips pressed into a thin line.Full novel: Reborn Empire’s Top Zerg — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The trigger was pulled, and a silver bullet instantly shot out. The powerful recoil made Kerry involuntarily take a step back.

Lanrod let out a muffled groan, his platinum-white military uniform instantly stained with bright red blood.

Blood overflowed from the corners of his lips, and Lanrod’s silver-blue pupils turned ice-blue.

Blue flames scorched the surrounding poisonous fire, and at the same time burned away the black threads entangling and clinging to his body.

A moment later, countless pieces of black flesh completely melted away.

Freed from the restraint, Lanrod fell forward.

Kerry hurriedly stepped forward to catch Lanrod. The moment he touched him, Kerry felt an icy coldness in his hands.

Lanrod felt like a block of ice, devoid of any temperature.

“Put me down,” Lanrod said in a weak voice.

Though shot in the heart, even if it wouldn’t kill him, it was still a massive trauma for Lanrod.

Hearing this, Kerry carefully helped Lanrod over to the wall. He pressed his lips together and looked at the location of Lanrod’s heart. The surging blood had just stopped, forming a startling contrast with his white-and-gold uniform.

Kerry could feel Lanrod’s weak breathing at that moment.

It was precisely at this moment that Kerry clearly realized this God of War praised by the entire Empire could get injured, and might even die.

Yet even so, he still unhesitatingly switched places with Bifield.

Kerry looked at Lanrod with complicated eyes. He pressed his lips together, lowered his head, and then looked at the surrounding mess.

Just when Kerry thought they were safe, he suddenly felt a sense of wrongness again.

Every hair on his body stood on end, and Kerry looked around vigilantly.

That feeling grew stronger and more unsettling by the second.

Soon, however, Kerry heard the sound of footsteps rushing toward them. The unique sound of military boots made Kerry let out a sigh of relief.

Before Kerry could relax, the surrounding space changed instantly.

“Not good!” Lanrod wanted to stand up through the sharp pain, but a wound piercing the heart was no minor injury.

Under such a heavy wound, even Lanrod could not overcome it.

Kerry supported Lanrod, but the next second he looked toward Bifield.

That strange feeling was coming from Lord Bifield.

As if confirming Kerry’s thought, a huge spatial field formed where Bifield stood, and a bloody red hand appeared behind him.

“Watch out!” Walama, who had rushed over, saw everything before him and leaped forward, wanting to pull Bifield out.

However, the violent shockwave blasted Walama back outside the room.

Kerry glanced at Bifield, then looked back at Walama, and immediately understood. The space had now formed a domain, and the only ones who could approach Bifield were probably himself and Lanrod.

“Help me over.” Amidst his cold voice carrying a hint of weakness, Lanrod looked at the bloody energy field ahead, his aura still calm. “Once pulled into the Void, there will be no possibility of returning. Souls will be assimilated and completely reduced to nourishment for the Void. We must rescue Lord Bifield as soon as possible.”

Kerry glanced at Lanrod. Instead of supporting him toward where Bifield was, Kerry dashed over alone.

“You!” Lanrod braced himself and looked at Kerry.

Kerry cast a sidelong glance at the silver-haired Zerg, then continued rushing toward Bifield.

Just as the red threads were about to sink into Bifield’s neck, Kerry made a sudden leap and tackled Bifield out of the way.

The red threads that had originally landed on Bifield began to entwine around Kerry instead.

A drop of cold sweat slid down his cheek as Kerry concentrated all his might, using his mental power to resist the immense pulling force.

“Cut the blood threads!” Lanrod steadied himself against the wall and staggered to his feet.

Kerry closed his eyes, forcing his mental power to materialize in an attempt to break free from the control.

At that moment, the surrounding domain weakened, and Walama and the others finally managed to enter.

The bloody flesh seemed stimulated, and the giant red hand slammed downward instantly.

“Careful!”

Kerry knelt on one knee, supporting himself with both hands, his entire body bending lower and lower under the heavy pressure.

“Walama, help me over,” Lanrod said, raising his eyes.

Walama was stunned. “But…”

“This is an order.” Lanrod’s gaze was cold and detached.

“Yes!”

Walama supported Lanrod as they walked toward Kerry.

Entering the domain of the Void, they instantly felt a crushing pressure.

The strength of the bloody handprint continued to intensify, making Kerry feel as though he was about to be pressed into meat paste.

Just as he was about to give out, he suddenly felt a warmth between his brows, and a pale blue halo enveloped his entire body.

“Kerry, follow my lead and concentrate on entering the mental domain,” Lanrod’s voice was weak yet clear.

Kerry closed his eyes. He clearly felt the power in his mental domain strengthening, as Lanrod was using his own mental power to help him.

Following Lanrod’s words, Kerry mobilized his own mental power to launch a counterattack.

This was the first time Kerry had ever felt such effortless fluidity in using his mental power.

“Now, run!”

Kerry looked up at Lanrod, then swiftly leaped out from the bloody vortex.

The moment Kerry leaped clear, the long sword formed from Lanrod’s mental power pierced straight through the sea of blood.

In an instant, a mist of blood filled the air, eventually dissolving into a light haze.

Advanced Testing Room

Kerry stood in the corner of the testing room, watching medical personnel file in and out one after another.

An unconscious Lanrod underwent various instrument checks and was subsequently injected with a dose of blue liquid.

Kerry raised his head to look at the silver-haired Zerg on the hospital bed. Silver strands of hair fell across Lanrod’s forehead, landing sparsely by his phoenix-feather-like outer eye corners.

His long eyelashes drooped quietly, his serene features calm and peaceful.

Kerry looked at Lanrod’s straight bridge of nose and pale lips, then shifted his gaze to the location of Lanrod’s heart.

The heart.

That was a fatal spot for anyone.

“Lanrod is truly insane. Has he lost his mind?!” Jeras cursed in a low voice.

“And you, get over here!” Jeras glared at Kerry.

Kerry lowered his head and walked over to Jeras, only to receive a full earful. “If he tells you to shoot, you shoot! Do you know where that was? That was the heart! The heart!”

Kerry lowered his head even further.

Jeras continued, “Even if he wouldn’t die, that’s the location of the heart! You’d lose a layer of skin even if you survive! Furthermore, he even split a portion of his own mental power to give to you, or else he wouldn’t be in this state!”

Kerry looked up. “That was the mental power he forcibly stripped away?”

Jeras looked at him. “How else did you think you managed to leave the Void?”

Kerry pressed his lips together. “What do we do now?”

Jeras glanced at Kerry, opened his mouth as if to say more, but ultimately sighed and condensed it into one sentence. “Wait for him to wake up first.”

Kerry looked at the unconscious Lanrod and murmured, “The commander told me that even shooting him in the heart wouldn’t kill him.”

Jeras glanced at Lanrod on the hospital bed and snorted coldly, “He’s always like this, never taking his own life seriously. Does he really think he’s made of iron?!”

Kerry lowered his gaze to look at Lanrod, suddenly recalling the scene from earlier.

When faced with such danger, Lanrod hadn’t hesitated for even a second before swapping places with Bifield.

Not just this time, but when he saved him earlier as well, it seemed he had never hesitated at all.

Kerry’s fingertips curled slightly, and he whispered, “How do we return the commander’s mental power to him?”

Jeras shook his head. “He needs to recover and take it back himself. Actually, that wouldn’t even be the main issue. The key is that Lanrod’s mental domain was already unstable to begin with!”

Kerry looked at Lanrod in surprise. The silver-haired military officer possessed striking, delicate features. Even unconscious, his refined and handsome appearance was undiminished.

“Why is it unstable?”
