Jordan spent all night in Emily’s room shifting and turning the sides of the cube, trying to figure out how to solve it but it seemed more complex than he thought.

He loved how smoothly it moved under his fingers and wondered why such a fascinating object was left in the Pillers’ garage.

He wondered who the toy could have belonged to.Full novel: Rubik’s Adventure — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Maybe it was given to Emily when she was much younger but she showed no interest in it, or maybe it belonged to her parents but they got bored of it or were too busy with work and adult stuff to play with it anymore.

He fidgeted with the cube getting excited whenever he saw that a side of a cube had 3 of the same colors, but pouted when he had to scatter it to try and solve for more colors.

Emily turned, tapped Jordan’s arm repeatedly and begged him to go to sleep in a drawling voice.

“Sorry” he quickly apologized and tried to soothe his best friend back to sleep.

“Umm…” he hesitated, laid down on his side, face-to-face with Emily who was beside him, half asleep, her hair more disheveled than it was in the day.

“Thank you again, Emily.

I dunno how to—” Emily yawned, mouth opened wide “It’s nothing, but if you really like it that much you wanna make it up to me…” “Promise me we’ll always be…

friend forever” Jordan smiled softly, and hooked his pinky fingers with hers “You’re my best friend, Em.

Always and forever.

I’ll never leave your side” Emily flashed a sleepy smile before it was lights out for her, faint snoring could be heard from her.

Jordan smiled, a pink tint resting upon his freckles cheeks.

He couldn’t ask for any other best friend.

Soon, he succumbed to the land of sleep, pinky still interlocked with hers.

### Jordan woke up as early as usual.

He rarely woke up late, he sat up and stretched, turned to look down at the snoring blonde, who had hair strands in her mouth, and dried spit on the side of her chin, proof of her drooling.

He quietly got down from her bed and shook her awake.

Emily groaned and turned to the other side.

Jordan wanted to roll his eyes.

He knew how much of a deep sleeper his friend was, and should have turned her down when she suggested to sneak out at a random time of the night.

Jordan shook her again, more firmly this time, and she slowly rose up, and rubbed her swollen eyes.

“What time is it?” She mumbled, yawning, not caring about the taste of hair in her mouth or how disheveled she looked.

“Eight in the morning.

We need to wash up before breakfast” Emily drudgingly got up and made her way to the bathroom.

Jordan played with the cube to while away his time.

Emily spent forever in the bathroom, but Jordan was already used to this, he would try and do other things like lay the bed, arrange the room from yesterday’s mess, he wasn’t a neat freak, he just liked things orderly and organized.

At last, the Princess was done with her royal shower, and it was Jordan’s turn.

Mrs.

Pillers walked into Emily’s room and found Emily awake earlier than usual.

It wasn’t a surprise, she knew Jordan was behind it.

The boy was responsible and more mature than his age, and always loved to look after Emily like he was her big brother.

She adored the boy and wished he could grow up in a better environment.

She respected his father for trying his best, but on multiple occasions, she had begged the man to let Jordan live with them and let them take care of him until Mr.

Blake was in a more financially capable position, but the man persistently refused, insisting that he was capable of raising his son just fine.

All that they were able to offer was assistance with Jordan’s school fees, and of course, they enrolled him in the same school as their daughter.

Mrs.

Pillers watched her daughter bounce around the room while she looked for the perfect outfit to wear.

She eventually concluded on her final decision, which were sea-green Jean overalls over a long sleeved lavender shirt.

Mrs.

Pillers helped her find her favorite shoes for her wild activities, and watched her put them, in case she put them on the wrong feet.

Just then, Jordan came out of the bathroom as well, ready to get dressed.

Mrs.

Pillers ushered Emily out of her room to let Jordan get dressed, but Emily ran back to the room in a haste after remembering something important.

“Mommy!

Do you know what this is?” She asked in a huff and held out the cube in her hand.

Mrs.

Pillers’ eyes widened at the object in her daughter’s hands.
