“Where’d you get that, Em?” Mrs.

Pillers asked with a quizzical look.

Emily shrugged “The garage.Full novel: Rubik’s Adventure — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Found it yesterday” Mrs.

Pillers carefully picked up the cube from her daughter’s hands and examined it.

“But…

I thought…” she mumbled softly.

Emily flashed a puzzled look, “Mommy?” Mrs.

Pillers looked back at her daughter “This was for your grandmother.

She locked it in a small vault that no one could open.

She said it was very important that no one mess with it.

We…

I haven’t seen it since she passed away…” Mrs.

Pillers droned off.

“You said you saw it in the garage?” Mrs.

Pillers asked again to confirm.

Emily nodded “Well, actually, Jordie found it.

He really likes it so he wanted to ask if he could keep it” Mrs.

Pillers was lost in her train of thoughts, as she examined the small cube.

“It’s a Rubik’s cube.

They were very popular back in my days, but I never really liked them” Emily said “Lee has one of them.

We’ve never actually seen him use it, though” Mrs.

Pillers was thinking hard of where the cube had come from since the last time she saw it was in her mother’s vault in her room.

“So can Jordie have it?

The, um, Rubie cube?” Emily muttered, squashing the name of the object together.

“Oh, Emily…

I don’t know, this was your grandmother’s treasure.

I don’t think it’d be right to just give it to someone…” “But grandma would want me to have it!

She told me that when the time comes, all her treasure will be mine!

It’s the pirates’ code!” Mrs.

Pillers’ eyes darted towards her daughter “What?” “The pirates code!

The mommy’s treasure is passed down to the next of kin when the mommy pirate retires” Emily recited, placing her right hand in her chest.

Mrs.

Pillers’ gaze moved from her daughter, to the cube, then back to her daughter.

She thought for a moment and said “I need to see someone later today, honey.

When I come back, I’ll let you know if you can have the cube or not” Emily frowned “But Mommyyyy!

We found it first!

It’s not fair, I—” Mrs.

Pillers gave Emily a scolding look before walking away with the cube in her hands.

Emily pouted and clenched her fists tightly.

“Your food is in the warmer.

Tell Jordan that you two can help yourselves.

Mommy is going out” Mrs.

Pillers rushed to get her bag and phone, she made a quick call before dashing towards the door, leaving with a quick ‘bye’ and slamming it shut.

Emily and Jordan were left alone in the house and Emily was sulking.

Jordan came out of the room and met Emily halfway in through the hallway.

“What’s wrong?” He asked.

“Mommy won’t let us keep the cube.

She said it was grandma’s treasure and wouldn’t let us have it, but grandma said that all her treasure will be mine when she retires, so I don’t get it!” Emily explained bitterly Jordan couldn’t help but feel sad that he couldn’t keep the cube, but he knew he had to respect the choice of the parents.

“It’s okay—” Emily shouted in anger “No it’s not!

We found it first!

Fair and square!

And you really really like it.

I—” Jordan hugged the angry blonde “It’s fine.

They should be selling it in the stores if we ask” Emily huffed and puffed out her cheeks, making her look adorable.

“Okay…” she said, still sulking a bit.

Jordan smiled and said “Are you hungry?

I’m hungry” Emily smiled back “You’re never hungry!” They made their way to the kitchen, and would’ve made a mess if Jordan hadn’t been there to catch falling objects and help Emily serve her plate.

### The two children were in a shiny green colored room, with pink and purple glitter all over the walls; this depicted Emily’s favorite color— Green.

The two were watching some videos on Emily’s tablet.

Funny videos about puppets, short movies starring plastic dolls, and Jordan’s favorite educational shows which were funny and captivating.

“I’d love to be a teacher someday…

like my mom” said Jordan, watching the man on the screen perform all kinds of crazy experiments.

Emily turned her gaze to meet him “A teacher?

But they’re no fun” “I could be” Jordan pointed out.

Emily pursed out her lips and stared at him for what felt like eternity, “Not really” Jordan pouted “Hey!” “That just means you’ll be a really good teacher!” Jordan rolled his eyes and shifted his focus back on the gadget.

“I’d like to be a story teller, just like my grandma” said Emily, smiling as she remembered how captivating her grandmother’s stories were when she told them.

“Maybe make my own stories and tell ’em to my grand kiddies” Jordan contemplated on her words for a moment before looking at her and smiling “You’d be great at it” Emily flashed a wide grin, showcasing her few missing teeth “Thanks, Jordie.

And you’d be great as a teacher too” Jordan smiled even wider and the two were back to watching a different show chosen by Emily this time.
