“That was on the will?!” Mrs.
Piller almost raised her voice in the lawyer’s office.
“Mrs.
Pillers, restrain yourself” the woman demanded.
Mrs.
Pillers couldn’t believe or understand why her mother had decided to give her granddaughter, Emily, her treasure, which she never let her or her siblings come close to.
“Indeed, Late Mrs.
Lavender Sparrows wanted her granddaughter to have her ‘treasure’, with this statement, ‘In hopes that you gather more and pass it on'” said the female lawyer, staring blankly at the will in her hands.
Mrs.
Pillers brought a hand to her head “Then why didn’t you tell us?
Why are we just knowing about this?” The lawyer shifted her glasses on her face, “It must have been missed while reading it” “Why wasn’t it in the vault?” The lawyer gave Mrs.
Pillers a quizzical look, “Which vault?” “The vault it was always kept in?
Why did we find it in the garage of all places?
Uncovered, exposed?!” The lawyer kept the paper in her briefcase and gave Mrs.
Pillers a serious look, “The reasons for that, I don’t know, but I’m sure I’ve been able to clear up any misunderstandings.
That cube belongs to Late Mrs.
Sparrow’s granddaughter, Emily Pillers.
That will be all” “Wait, but—” “That will be all, Mrs.
Pillers.
Please leave my office, I have other business to attend” Mrs.
Pillers bit her lip and clenched the cube in her fists, she hung her head in embarrassment and walked out the door.
Outside the office, Mrs.
Pillers stared down at the ordinary cube her mother valued greatly.
She would never let her or any of her siblings get near the vault which it was kept in.
Speaking of the vault, where was it?
Had her mother brought it out of the vault before passing it down?
It could have been possible, but…
why would she give it to Emily?
For whatever reason could she have given Emily her treasure for?
Mrs.
Pillers muttered quietly “In hopes that you gather more…” Gather more…
more of what exactly?
What message was she passing to an eight year old?
Could Emily understand such a cryptic message?
What went through her mother’s head that she couldn’t understand?
Lilian Sparrows, beautiful and talented, was undoubtedly the favorite child.
Being the last born among her and her 2 sisters, had it’s perks.
Her mother had never let any of them near her vault, which held her most valuable treasure.
One time, her sisters wanted to sneak into the vault and find out what was in there that their mother hid so much.
When they saw it was just a boring Rubik’s cube, they were baffled.
This was their mother’s treasure?
A toy which was being sold in almost every store around the block.
Uninterested, they left their mother and the vault alone.
Their mother would tell them stories at night when they were very young, about fascinating tales, it almost felt like their mother had been there herself, but they knew it wasn’t possible.
Emily, one of Mrs.
Sparrows’ granddaughter, was undoubtedly her favorite.
She was always interested in her grandmother’s stories and loved to spend every moment with her, just to hear those stories.
Emily, as well, adored her grandmother and would pick a fight with anyone who claimed that her stories weren’t true.
Emily must have had a more than fair share of space in her grandmother’s heart, so much that she gave her one prized possession whom none of her children could get near, to her, even though Emily would obviously show no interest in such a toy.
Mrs.
Pillers’ eyebrows furrowed before she tore her gaze away from the toy.
“I guess they can have it then” she sighed.
But still, she couldn’t help but wonder; What was so special about the treasure?
