The next day after Mrs.

Pillers’ visit to her mother’s lawyer, she told Emily that she could have the cube, and Emily beamed, “Really?” A nervous drop of sweat slid down Mrs.

Pillers’ face, but she tried to match the smile of her daughter “Yes, but be very VERY careful with it, okay?Full novel: Rubik’s Adventure — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

This was grandma’s favorite toy” Emily cocked her head to the side “Toy?

I didn’t know grandma had any toys” “That’s because she loved them so much she kept it where no one could find it” Emily gasped “Like a secret!” Mrs.

Pillers nodded and carefully placed the ‘treasure’ in Emily’s chubby palms.

“Can I give it to Jordie?” Mrs.

Pillers hesitated, “As long as you’re very careful with it” Emily nodded and danced around the room with excitement, she would surprise Jordan with the cube while they’ll be playing in the garage.

She’ll tell one of her stories and sneakily describe the cube until she brings it out for him and flashes another famous toothy grin.

It was a very pleasant surprise.

Jordan came once again to hang out at Emily’s place, and his eyes lit up when Emily handed over the cube.

“It’s ours now!

Mommy said it can’t be YOURS yours” she said, emphasizing on the first ‘yours’ to make it clear that it wasn’t his OWN possession.

It still belonged to the Pillers, and of course, Jordan respected that.

“Thank you, thank you, Thank you!!!” He squealed happily, much to Emily’s surprise.

Seeing the surprised look on her face, his face exploded in an embarrassed fluster.

He couldn’t believe he had made such a voice.

Emily giggled loudly and replied him with a matching squeal “You’re welcoooooommee!!!” Jordan blushed and stared at the cube once again, each face of the cube having one or more boxes of different colors.

He saw red, he saw blue, he saw white, he saw yellow, he saw green, and he saw purple.

He didn’t normally see purple on other cubes he saw in the stores when he checked, but he thought they must have come in different colors, and as long as it wasn’t broken, he didn’t mind.

Jordan got to it immediately, the whole day, Jordan spent it trying to get all the boxes of the same color to one side, but he failed.

Emily didn’t have a problem with his new found interest in the cube and played games on her tab instead.

She was glad she was able to do something for her best friend that made him really happy.

She would glance at his focused face every now and then and smile feeling happy that her friend is happy.

### “Jordie, it’s been three daaaaays!

Aren’t you tired?” Emily groaned.

Three days it’s been, since Jordan was given the Rubik’s cube, and his life’s mission was to solve at least one side of it.

He had it everywhere he went, to bed, while eating, to Emily’s place, and he was currently playing with it yet again while Emily was trying to get his attention with other toys in her garage.

Jordan flinched and the cube almost slipped out of his hands, “S-Sorry…

I haven’t been able to…

to…” Jordan mumbled and came to a stop, and Emily stared at him blankly, then she got an idea.

“Why don’t we ask how?

I bet mommy knows, or daddy!” Jordan also thought this was a good idea, and he followed Emily outside the garage, cube in his hands and ran to the kitchen, where Emily’s mom is most of the time.

“Wait, I think she said she had something to do at work…

and daddy’s busy too…” said Emily.

Jordan’s mood instantly turned gloomy, so Emily tried to cheer him up “We can use my tab!

Find the answer on the webbies” “Webs” “Websies” Emily repeated.

Jordan ignored her this time and nodded quietly.

They went back to the garage and sat in front of Emily’s pink tab.

“Okay…

um…

what’s the name again…?” Emily hesitated.

Jordan stiffened.

They didn’t just walk back and forth…

only to forget the…

“Ah-hah!” Emily cried slamming her fist in her open palm.

“Rubies…

cube…” Emily mumbled as she spelt the word out on her tablet.

Fortunately, such a cube was not found on their web search, but the internet, being its helpful self, displayed the cube on the screen, with the real name.

“Rubik’s cube” Jordan repeated slowly, looking back and forth from the cube in his hands to the cube on the screen.

“Okay then”, said Jordan, shifting the tablet closer to himself, and he typed “How to solve a Rubik’s cube” They found videos.

Lots and lots of videos, and Emily gladly laid next to Jordan while watching the confusing videos on her screen.

Jordan tried to grab everything the man said, but there were codes, algorithms, so much, he just didn’t have time to understand.

They watched more videos, for hours, but Jordan only grew more and more frustrated.

Emily was by his side, swaying her legs up in the air and humming a random tune.

Soon, the parents were back from work and the children had to put a stop to the videos.

“Mommy!” Emily beamed at her mother.

Mrs.

Pillers smiled back at her daughter, and pet her head, trying to smoothen out the bush like tufts of hair flying about.

Sometimes, she wondered if her daughter kept birds in her hair.

“How was your day, Emily?

Had fun?” Asked Mrs.

Pillers.

Emily nodded her head vigorously “Yes, yes.

Me and Jordie had lots and lots of fun!” Emily turned sideways to smile at Jordan who blushed and sheepishly smiled back.

Mrs.

Pillers was satisfied with her daughter’s answer and patted Jordan’s head as well.

“Thank you for coming again today, Jordan, but I believe you must return home now.

Your dad will be worried if you get home late, would you like to have a snack first before leaving?” Jordan looked up at the tall woman and nodded his head slowly.

Mrs.

Pillers gave him a radiant smile before disappearing behind her bedroom door.

Emily took Jordan’s hands in hers and assured him “I’m sure you’ll get it tomorrow.

Or the day after that, or after that, or after that.

I know you’ll get it someday!

You’re the smartest boy I know!” Jordan’s eyes widened and his cheeks reddened at the complement, “Thank you, Emily” Before Jordan was taken home by Emily’s mom, the two had a long hug which comforted them both and shared so many feelings between them.
