The next morning, Arthur woke up at seven. He brushed his teeth then went to the kitchen to prepare some light breakfast. Not only to avoid eating Sara’s cooking but also because he liked cooking.
It relaxed his mind and brought him joy. Today, his plan wasn’t anything grand. He would just go to a private investigator and look for Bill’s wife. After that, he will come back and help Sara with her packing.
He remembered that they haven’t notified the landlord yet. Or maybe Sara did after he fell asleep. He needed to ask her. From what he has learned from Sara about her family, they have been living in this area for fifteen years.
They were originally from a rural place. But moved to the city after her father landed a decent job. And they have been living here since.
Her mother died when the twins were 4 years old. She died from cancer. And because of that, her father fell into despair, self hating and helplessness so severe that he became like what he is now. It is a sad story really. Hearing how a perfectly loving family can fall apart just from the absence of one person.
But even then, Arthur could do nothing other than continue to do what he has been.
Simping(?).
’Wait, I haven’t checked the system for a while. Damn, I’m so self-sufficient! I don’t need constant dopamine hits from system progress to live! Mm hmm! I’m so great!’
Arthur internally praised himself for his control. He almost forgot the system existed(?). He was truly a man of perseverance and patience.
He kept nodding to himself. Trying to cope with the fact that he has become a system guy within just 3 days. It was a frightening change when he thought about it. He went from feeling pathetic because he received the system to thinking about its use at every opportunity.
Arthur shook his head. Trying to clear his head. He didn’t want to think about what would happen in the future and how much of himself the system will become part of.
Just thinking about what will become of him if the system suddenly disappeared made him shudder in terror.
"Whateverwhateverwhateverwhateverwhatever—"
Arthur started to rapidly chant whatever to stop himself from spiraling. He did not understand what has gotten into him to have such thoughts that have no meaning.
He literally has no control over anything. So worrying about anyone is the stupidest thing imaginable. But that does not mean he can’t establish his own social network he can influence over.
Or what is the point of earning all this money? He would just be asking to be targeted by the big bads of the world.

"Woah, damn. I’ve come far."
Arthur willed the system UI to appear. He briefly gazed at it and the numbers were big. Just 2 days ago he was broke. There were barely any numbers on the screen, but now he is the owner of six figure money.
He closed the UI with a satisfied smile. His weird train of thoughts also stopped and he felt relieved. Those thoughts were like feverdream. Sickening and weird.
Arthur’s mood slowly changed for the better. He hummed a random melody he had no idea of its origin as he cooked.
As he was prepared, he heard Sara’s room opening. She came out rubbing his eyes, in her pajamas. Her hair tried to a bun. She looked like a cute sleepy head.
Arthur didn’t turn to give her a second glance. Just a brief gaze over his shoulder and focused back on the frying pan or the dish might burn.
Sara was having a hard time opening her eyes and making sense of her surroundings. She slept like a log. She practically forced herself up. Barely able to open her eyes.
She got up to cook for the kids. Prepare for her work. So when she came out of her room, she heard sizzling sounds, she stood there gobsmacked for a moment. Trying to make sense of where it was coming from. For a moment, she thought it was her father.
A spike of excitement stabbed her heart. Snapping out of her daze. She opened her eyes wide. Expecting a familiar back.
The back was certainly familiar, but not just her father’s. She became a bit disappointed. Then she became extremely displeased.
That man is barely 3 days old in her household and has already kidded her out of her own kitchen! The audacity of that man!
Sara didn’t say anything. She went back inside her room, fuming. She came back out and went to shower. Whatever the case maybe, she looked awful. She needed to be presentable at least in terms of looks to feel superior.
She could not believe she was fighting for influence in her own house. Arthur had already brought one of her family members under his influence.
And not just anyone but the most problematic, as well as the most intelligent one among the siblings. She was left with a half wit. But at least he was loyal. So she could make due with that.
Sara entered the bathroom, she came out 10 minutes later. Looking refreshed. She noticed Arthur setting up the table. He looked weirdly elegant while doing so. Like a highly trained butler of an aristocratic family.
The only difference was casual clothes and an apron.
"Pfff—!"
She involuntarily let out a loud laugh, grabbing Arthur’s attention. He turned to her sharply. His gaze confused. She didn’t explain herself and stormed into her room. Blush appeared on her face.
After a while, Judy and Jude also woke up and came out rubbing their eyes. Arthur wondered if that eye rubbing was a genetic habit. All three of them rub their left eye with the back of their left hand.
But whatever the case maybe, he waited for them at the dinner table. With the breakfast ready and served.
Sara came out looking prim and proper. She sat opposite of Arthur. Both seated silently. Waiting for the twins to finish brushing their teeth and have breakfast. They didn’t have to wait long. Both of them came running.
Racing on go gets to the table first. Jude won their little race. He became all smug about it. Judy just snorted and sat down.
After all of them gathered, they started the breakfast.
