Sang Ran thought Fu Chenyan hadn’t heard her, so she knocked on the door again, softer this time. “Husband, are you in there?”

The girl’s voice was too soft. Fu Chenyan’s heart gave a sudden heavy thump, then instantly returned to normal.

Fu Chenyan: “Meeting paused.”

“??”

Paused?

The executives exchanged bewildered glances again, clearly not having processed what just happened, but the screen had already gone dark.

Everyone in the company knew that President Fu was a workaholic—even a catastrophe wouldn’t make him pause a meeting.

Sang Ran knocked on the door again and parted her lips. “Hus—”

Before she could get the next syllable out, the door swung open. Her hand knocked against Fu Chenyan’s chest. She met his icy black eyes, immediately withdrew her hand, and hid it behind her back.

Fu Chenyan frowned. “What’s wrong?”

Sang Ran hesitated. “I… I don’t have any clothes to change into. There’s no pajamas for me here.”

“Follow me.”

Fu Chenyan led Sang Ran to his room. It was decorated in a minimalist black theme—a simple desk and chair, a wardrobe, all in a sea of oppressive darkness. Somewhat… depressing.

That was Sang Ran’s immediate impression. It was the first time she’d seen this type of room, because her own room was all pink.

Fu Chenyan took out a new shirt from the wardrobe and said flatly, “Wear mine for now. It’s new, never worn.”

Sang Ran took the shirt from Fu Chenyan, looked up, and said softly, “Thank you.”

She smiled, and the smile carried a hint of sweetness. Two dimples appeared on her cheeks, and her beautiful black eyes curved into crescents.

Fu Chenyan was momentarily dazed. “Mm. Go ahead, little doll…”

Sang Ran didn’t seem to catch what Fu Chenyan had said at the end. She looked up, scratched her head, and turned to leave.

“Wait. What did you… call me in the study just now?”

He asked again. This time, his tone wasn’t as cold as before—there was an extra layer of emotion in it.

Sang Ran turned back, her clear pupils meeting the man’s icy eyes. Those eyes were sharply defined in black and white, very handsome.

“Husband… is that… wrong?”

Fu Chenyan was silent for a few seconds before his cool voice sounded again. “It’s right.”

Sang Ran hugged the shirt to her chest and went to the bathroom. She took a quick hot shower, then put on Fu Chenyan’s black shirt. It was huge on her, hanging down past her thighs.

Sang Ran returned to the room and flopped onto the soft bed. There seemed to be a faint scent of grass and wood on it—a smell she knew all too well. It was Fu Chenyan’s scent.

His whole house smelled like him. Even though the man himself was insufferable, his scent wasn’t so bad.

Just as Sang Ran lay down, her phone on the bedside table buzzed. The contact name read: Dearest Daddy.

“Sweetheart, what happened? Didn’t you leave? Why are you back? Dad already got everything arranged with the people over there.”

An urgent voice came through the speaker.

“Daddy, I ran away, but Fu Chenyan caught me and brought me back. He was mean to me. I don’t want to stay here. I want to go home.”

When Sang Ran heard Sang Lin’s voice, her lashes, delicate as black butterfly wings, trembled slightly, and a thin layer of mist formed in her eyes.

“Sweetheart, Daddy will come pick you up right away. How about I come get you right now?”

Sang Lin stepped out of the room, phone in hand. His daughter had always been by his side—how could he bear to let her marry? If not for Elder Fu’s terminal illness…

Sang Ran: “Daddy, it’s already very late. You have work tomorrow. Get some rest first. I have a place to sleep—Fu Chenyan and I are sleeping separately.”

“Sweetheart, Daddy will come get you tomorrow then. Is Fu Chenyan very fierce? His temper is pretty bad. Don’t go near him.”

Fu Chenyan’s temper was notoriously violent. His daughter was so young, so fragile, and timid—what if Fu Chenyan bullied her?

Just thinking about it made Sang Lin’s heart ache.

“He… is fierce, but he didn’t bully me. Daddy, don’t worry. He even gave me a little cake tonight. He’s not that fierce after all.”

“That’s good. Sweetheart, go to sleep now. Daddy will come get you tomorrow.”

“Okay.”

Sang Ran hung up the phone and set it on the table. She pulled the blanket up over herself and closed her eyes.

She had been exhausted all day. Not long after closing her eyes, her breathing evened out.

Some time later, footsteps sounded outside the door, followed by the door being pushed open. Cold white light flooded the entire room.

Then came the soft rustling of clothes being removed, followed by the sound of water running in the bathroom.

Fu Chenyan emerged wearing a gray bathrobe that reached his ankles. Water droplets from his hair slid down his forehead, tracing along his chiseled features before dripping onto his sexy Adam’s apple…

The robe’s sash wasn’t tied properly, revealing a glimpse of his firm eight-pack abs. The lines of his body were smooth and well-proportioned, radiating tension and power.

As usual, he lifted the covers to get into bed. But the next moment, his pupils suddenly constricted, and he froze stiff on the spot.

The girl lay peacefully on her side in bed, hugging a white goose-down pillow. Her chestnut-colored hair spread out around her, and her long lashes cast a delicate shadow under the lamplight. Her features were exquisitely refined, her fair skin tinged with a faint blush.

The white shirt she wore had two buttons undone, revealing a glimpse of snow-white skin… and further down, long, straight, slender legs…

Fu Chenyan looked for two seconds, then silently averted his gaze, his throat dry. After a moment, he glanced sideways at the girl in bed once more, then pulled the blanket up to cover her properly.

“Cough, cough…”

Fu Chenyan coughed softly, then looked around the room, confirming that this was indeed his own bedroom.

“Bad guy…”

The sleeping girl suddenly parted her lips, letting out a faint murmur.

“What?”

Fu Chenyan bent down, slowly leaning closer to her pink, luscious lips—full and ripe like cherries, tempting to be plucked.

If this little doll weren’t a fool, he might have actually thought this woman was trying to seduce him.

“Bad… bad guy!”

Sang Ran pushed at the pillow beside her with one hand, moved her mouth, then rolled over, tossing the pillow aside.

“Bad? Guy?”

A flicker of amusement seemed to pass through Fu Chenyan’s eyes, vanishing in an instant, as if it had been an illusion.

“Sleep now, little doll.”

Fu Chenyan placed her hand back where it had been. He was just about to rise and leave when his wrist was wrapped in a soft, tender grip.

“Bunny.”

Sang Ran had grabbed hold of Fu Chenyan’s arm, mistaking him for her little rabbit plushie.

“Bunny…”

Sang Ran rubbed her fair, soft cheek against Fu Chenyan’s hand. Her face was incredibly soft, with a texture like cotton.

Fu Chenyan: “…”
