And although Humans, Elves, and Demons formed the races that ruled the world’s present…

They were not the most powerful entities to exist upon the continent of Aegisor.

For since eras preceding the emergence of the first kingdoms, there lived in this world forces whose existence was measured not by their numbers, but by the dread they struck into the hearts of all.Full novel: The Curse of the Eyes — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

On the untrodden mountain peaks, and among the clouds reached only by the winds, Dragons made their lairs.

Mythical creatures around which thousands of tales were woven, until distinguishing between truth and legend became impossible.

They were few in number, yet they never needed armies; for every single dragon possessed power enough to alter the entire course of a battle.

Dragons were not adept at wielding many types of magic as humans were, but they inherited arts that most mages dared not even approach…

Forbidden Magic.

A magic wielded only at a heavy price, and the dragons’ strikes with it were enough to bring down fortresses, split mountains, and turn battlefields into barren lands where life could never grow.

As for the second force, it had no homeland or borders.

They were the Spirits.

Ethereal beings formed from mana itself, invisible to the naked eye except to those who possessed the ability to commune with them.

They submitted to no one, nor did they answer to any command of force; rather, summoning them required complex magical rituals and contracts built on trust and harmony between the spirit and its summoner.

And when a spirit accepted that contract…

It granted its partner a massive reservoir of mana and fought by their side with the power of nature’s elements—summoning fires, moving winds, commandable waters, while the earth itself rose at its bidding.

Spirits were not only skilled in combat, but were also renowned for healing magic that saved countless mages throughout history.

For this reason…

Dragons embodied absolute power.

While Spirits represented the balance that kept the world from collapsing.

With these forces present, many believed that Aegisor would remain stable forever…

But even the mightiest of beings, and the most powerful of mages, could not halt the catastrophe that was silently approaching.

A catastrophe that would swallow the entire continent…

And would be known in the history books as The Great War.
