Bai Lou quickly shook his head. “That’s not what I’m worried about.” He then recalled how much meat Lang Zhan had eaten skewer after skewer last night and hesitated before asking, “By the way, how much meat can you eat in one meal?”
Lang Zhan glanced at the stone basin and replied, “At home like this, without hunting, one piece is enough for one meal. Hunting would require more as I use divine power, then at least two pieces.”
Bai Lou’s eyes widened. He looked at Lang Zhan and then at the meat. This piece must weigh five or six pounds, right? But considering Lang Zhan’s beast form, it didn’t seem so strange.
“That’s enough. This is all I can eat.” Bai Lou held out his hand to show his appetite.
“Just this big, a palm-sized piece.” In reality, even a palm-sized piece of meat might not be enough to finish. Bai Lou thought he could eat more now that he was in human form, so he gave this much.
Lang Zhan frowned. This was far too little.
Before he could say anything, Bai Lou released his arm and bent down to pick up the stone basin.
Lang Zhan quickly lifted the stone basin with one hand. The basin was large, barely filling two pieces of meat, and its thick rim made it look quite heavy, yet Lang Zhan carried it effortlessly.
Bai Lou followed behind, carrying a stone knife, peering into the basin with concern. “It’s so hot,” he said, “Won’t the meat spoil overnight?” “Won’t it give us diarrhea?” he asked.
“No,” Lang Zhan replied, unsurprised that he didn’t know this. The White Cat Tribe probably didn’t have the ability to hunt dinosaurs.
“Wind Dragon Beast meat can be stored for four or five days in summer without spoiling.”
Bai Lou was relieved. The Wind Dragon Beast even had a built-in cooling effect; it was quite considerate of those who ate it.
A small river ran a short distance from the courtyard. Lang Zhan placed the stone basin by the river, and the two washed up briefly.
Bai Lou searched the area and found a flat stone. He moved it over, took a piece of meat from the basin, placed it on the stone, and used the stone knife to cut it into the same pieces he had seen yesterday. Seeing his thoughts, Lang Zhan used his paw to cut open another piece of meat.
Bai Lou placed the meat pieces into the stone basin, washing and stirring them with water. After washing them for the third time, Lang Zhan couldn’t help but speak up, “This way, the beast blood inside is gone.”
Bai Lou remembered the taste of the meat skewers from last night and felt hungry again.
“That’s exactly why it tastes good. Leaving the beast blood in makes it very fishy. Didn’t you guys notice this before?”
Lang Zhan seemed to realize something and explained, “Nobody thought of that before. Beast blood contains salt, and leaving it in replenishes salt. Dragon beast blood also carries energy.”
Nobody did this, so naturally they didn’t know that washing it off could remove the fishy smell.
Bai Lou paused, preparing to wash it again, and said somewhat embarrassedly, “Ah, I didn’t know that. I’m sorry. Is the tribe short of salt?”
No wonder yesterday’s skewers had no seasoning.
Although Bai Lou is a bit picky about food, he won’t waste other people’s food. He can just get through a few meals first, and then he can cook normally when he has his own home, or he can buy food from the mall when he has money.
Remembering his reaction to the meat skewers yesterday, Lang Zhan reached out to help him fill the stone basin with water by placing it in the river.
“The tribe needs more, but I don’t. Wash it clean, Tu doesn’t like fishy meat anyway.”
After washing the meat four times and soaking it in water, Bai Lou frowned at his greasy hands. The smell was awful.
Seeing his expression, Lang Zhan said, “Once you’re done, just wash it with wood ash.”
Nodding, Bai Lou got up and walked a few steps along the riverbank. Finally, his sharp eyes spotted a fish about twenty centimeters long near a rock, and he happily pointed in that direction.
“Zhan, there’s a fish over there!”
